But what will Sparta say?!

Sparta will say the IWF pressout rule is subjective and stupid. People will say, "but then powerlifters will be able to come press massive weights overhead if they can pressout." To which I simply say, powerlifters can't clean that big weight to their shoulders.

LOL, I'm such a weight training virgin. I didn't understand any of that.

Good luck you 2 for your challenge.

I'm assuming that was done raw?

Would like to chat on msn sometime soon re a few things.

Yeah raw. Stuff using that many chains/bands in a shirt, the loading curve would be like 100kgs :pfft:

Ok, I'll leave my MSN on for a while and you might catch me at the PC.

1. Sumo Deadlifts

42 Titan Cent, belt

2 x 70kg/154lbs x 5

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 3

1 x 130kg/287lbs x 3

1 x 160kg/353lbs x 2

*straps up*

1 x 190kg/419lbs x 1

1 x 220lbs/485lbs x 1

1 x 250kg/551lbs x 1

1 x 280kg/618lbs x 1 PR

1 x 290kg/639lbs x 1 PR

1 x 295kg/650lbs x near miss

This training cycle has worked wonders. Still need to continue to smoke my upper back as that's still the main strength weakness. That and just speed off the floor.

2. Conventional Rack Pulls - knee

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5

1 x 140kg/309lbs x 5

1 x 180kg/397lbs x 5

1 x 220kg/485lbs x 5

1 x 260kg/573lbs x 3

First time doing these.

Other notes:

First comp was exactly 6 months ago. Total was 590kg. After today my best lifts add up to 715kg. Pretty happy to make good gains and have good fortune with injuries etc.

1. Reverse Band Bench Press w/40kg Chains

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 8

1 x 75kg/165lbs x 5

1 x 90kg/198lbs x 3

1 x 105kg/231lbs x 1

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 1

2 x 90kg/198lbs x 8

2a. Bent Over Rows

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 8

4 x 70kg/154lbs x 8

2b. Tate Presses

4 x 12.5kg/28lbs's x 20

3a. EZ-Bar Curls

4 x 35kg/77lbs x 10

3b. Band Pull Aparts

4 x 10

4. Standing Abs

2 x 48kg x 15

2 x 54kg x 10

Notes:

Starting to include the bent over rows to help out the bench and sort of as an anticipation of my next sticking point in the deadlift (plus they'll help the lockout). No reason why I can't add another easy 15kg to my pull, just have to start high frequency/heavy work for shrugs, rack pulls and rows.

Weight's increasing nicely, got on the scales today at a well hydrated 109kg. Will cut a little bit off when I'm home for the holidays, just (temporarily :D) clean up my diet and add some low intensity cardio and do complexes for my training (doubles as a deload).

Entry #244: Wednesday 18/06/2008

1. Squats

40 Titan Cent, belt, wraps

3 x 60kg/132lbs x 5

*added suit, straps down*

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5 (12" box + 8" foam)

1 x 140kg/309lbs x 3 (12" box + 6" foam)

*straps up*

1 x 140kg/309lbs x 2 (12" box + 8" foam)

1 x 180kg/397lbs x 2 (12" box + 6" foam)

1 x 220kg/485lbs x 1 (12" box + 4" foam)

*added loose knee wraps*

1 x 250kg/551lbs x 1 (12" box + 4" foam)

1 x 270kg/595lbs x 1 (no box) 20kg PR

Depth looked good from camera angle. Walkout was shocking, 7 steps. 2nd step went inwards and it screwed me over. Need to get used to walking out heavy weights in knee wraps that's all. At least I'm not flying out of the rack now.

2a. Barbell Shrugs

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 8

3 x 160kg/353lbs x 8

2b. Reverse Hypers

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 10

3 x 80kg/176lbs x 10

3. Standing Abs

2 x 54kg x 12

Other notes:

Best lifts now add up to 735kg/1620lbs. I've learnt now that it's unlucky that everything will happen on the day, especially as you get stronger, so at 8 weeks out 735kg is now my goal for nationals. If everything or most things do go right and I smoke that total, so be it :)

Thanks guys.

The guy in the suit trains at my gym. He had just came from work. He's one hell of a squatter.

better than you?

Hard to compare. He is very strong on box squats with chains/bands but he hasn't free squatted and won't free squat for a while because he isn't doing any meets yet (so with his style of training there is no need to). To a 12" box with a cambered bar the other week he did I think 250kg + 40kg chains pretty much raw, which is pretty damn good.

oi mike zero wherebouts do you train in chch

Eastside Barbell. If your training is strength orientated and you're interested in joining or just want to know more, PM me :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Lack of entries lately, was sick and then went back home for the weekend. I've had a few trainings that I've missed logging, but thanks to the flu (for the 3rd or 4th time this year...) they were pretty average, so I'm not going to bother. Putting it all behind me and thinking positive :) . Onto today:

Entry #245: Wednesday 02/06/2008

1. 12" Box Squat + foam

40 Cent (bottoms), belt

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 6 (8" foam)

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5 (6" foam)

1 x 140kg/309lbs x 3 (4" foam)

1 x 180kg/397lbs x 1 (2" foam)

1 x 220kg/485lbs x 1 (2" foam) PR

Walkouts + holds:

1 x 260kg/573lbs x 10 sec

1 x 280kg/618lbs x 10 sec

First time squatting low bar since the meet, for the recovery of my elbows - which felt fine tonight. Wrists felt like they were going to snap though, just need to adjust to this bar position again. And then 300kg won't be all that far away.

2a. Barbell Shrugs (double overhand, strap less)

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5

3 x 160kg/353lbs x 5

2b. GHR

1 x BW x 5

1 x BW+10kg x 5

1 x BW+15kg x 3 PR

1 x BW x 5 (drop set)

1 x BW x 8

3a. EZ-Bar Curls

3 x 37.5kg x 10

3b. Band Pull Aparts

3 x 12

4a. Standing Abs

3 x 48kg x 15

4b. Standing Calf Raises

3 x 15

Notes:

Back into the high volume stuff for 3 weeks and then have a little deload, then strong again up until around nationals.
