SS, the two main gyms around Nelson are City Fitness and Devine's. They both won't be cheap at all. I know Devine's is $13/session. But it's good quality, where the Tasman Makos train so they have boxes, chains, SSQ bar, lots of plates/racks etc. I think I'll be back around the 16th as well.

DP, I don't stick to a healthy diet at all. Hard when your staying in a hall of residence. As SS said, I drink a lot of milk which makes up my main protein intake plus I eat a lot of tuna. My weight gains aren't the cleanest but next time I'm back up in Nelson I'll cut out carbs/alcohol for 2-3 weeks so I'm still in the 110s at the end of the year...

$13 is a freaking bargain compared to Wellington prices! I'll have potentially 5 sessions there, so maybe they can cut me a deal. I'll hit you up closer to the time and if possible we could have a train together?

1. Conventional Deadlifts

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 5

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5

1 x 130kg/287lbs x 3

1 x 160kg/353lbs x 1

*added belt*

1 x 190kg/419lbs x 1

Not much speed off the floor but lockout was a snap. Gotta give these another try in my suit at one point. Easy set.

Did some Back/Core and left.

1. Shirted Bench Press

First time in my 42 F6

Chest plate is about twice as narrow as the current chest plate on my stretched out 44. So this shirt is very tight.

2 x 60kg/132lbs x 5

1 x 80kg/176lbs x 3

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 1

Put shirt on.

4 Board:

1 x 140kg/309lbs x 2

Dumpish action onto the boards, could hardly get my hands on the bar due to the tightness of the shirt.

1 x 150kg/331lbs x 2

A lot better.

1 x 160kg/353lbs x 2

Wet chest plate. Kept tight as. Came up fast.

Took shirt off at this point as I had little circulation. Waited ~10 mins and threw it back on. Left the slip-ons in for the first set so the shirt would take fewer sets to settle and I'd have more time with circulation.

1 x 160kg/353lbs x 2

Slip-ons backfired on me, shirt settled way too much and the sleeve came up to about 3 fingers above the elbow so it gave me a lot less support than before and now my circulation was cutting out even faster. A race to load the bar and have one last set.

3 Board:

1 x 180kg/397lbs x 1 PR

Much easier than expected touch and a surprisingly easy press. Didn't think I'd get it with how easy it came down but it shot up. Next week I'll shoot for 200kg on the 3 Board and then try and get something to the 2 Board.

Did some Face Pulls and Pressdowns and left. Sick AGAIN, so volume is going to be quite low. Hopefully it's peaked and I'm starting to get better.

1. 2 Board Bench Press

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 5

1 x 80kg/176lbs x 5

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 5

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 5

Slipping on the bench a bit, will do 130kg x 5 next Friday.

2. Bench Press

Equipment: Old 44 F6, no belt (so unjacked)

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 5 (3 Board)

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 3 (2 Board)

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 3 (1 Board)

1 x 120kg/265lbs x 1

1 x 135kg/298lbs x 5 PR

Suddenly conditioned to tighter and this now feels like a T-Shirt. Touched 120 pretty easy, at Canterburys I had a little trouble touching 130 in the same situation (shirt unjacked) so I've gotten a lot better just from that one session in the tight shirt on Monday.

Tried doing some Tate Presses and Pushdowns but they both felt like they'd aggrevate the elbows a wee bit so didn't take them any further. That full ROM benching was a test for the elbows and surprisingly fine on them so they're getting better. I've been looking forward to working in some Reverse Band Benching with heavy as tension - may come sooner than expected at this rate.

My drinking night is now Saturday because I got banned from the student pub, so things have been shuffled around a bit so I don't train Sunday morning. Deadlifts are now tomorrow morning so I'll do all my back etc. work then.

Sick still so I missed that Squat and the volume was lower today.

1. Reverse Band Sumo Deadlifts

Equipment: 42 Cent straps down, no belt

Bands: JS Blues (took off ~80kg at the bottom, ~40kg at the top)

1 x 130kg/287lbs x 5

1 x 170kg/375lbs x 3

1 x 210kg/463lbs x 3

1 x 250kg/551lbs x 3

1 x 290kg/639lbs x 3

1 x 310kg/683lbs x 1

So that 290kg set was around 250kg at the top and the 310kg set was around 270kg at the top. All locked out cleanly, shoulders definately back. Changed a few things including head position and set up. Not enough tension throughout the movement, going to add more bands next week and change the pins so that it takes about 70kg off the bottom and nothing off the top.

2a. Barbell Shrugs

1 x 80kg/176lbs x 8

4 x 120kg/265lbs x 8

2b. GHR

4 x BW x 8

3a. Standing Abs

1 x 48kg x 10

1 x 54kg x 10

3b. Seated Cable Row

2 x 78kg x 10

Other notes:

Volume still not as high as I want it. Got a bit feverish towards the end so called it quits.

They look pretty similar to me too.

Lockout is looking better there Mike. You more upright before you begin the lift?

Make the weight lighter on the floor/heavier at the top. Good for working the lockout.

And yeah as SS said, I telephoned a jug. I was drunk as and some mates told me it would be a good idea. I have the handle (and my tresspass notice) on my wall as a trophy.

Whoops forgot to answer this. Yeah I am more upright, even though I can't get as wide as usual in the power rack. Plus I stopped the hip dip on Sumo's so I can retain my torso position better.

Entry #230: Monday 19/05/2008

1. Shirted Bench Press

Equipment: 42 F6, no belt

1 x 60kg/132lbs x 6

1 x 80kg/176lbs x 4

1 x 100kg/220lbs x 2

*added shirt*

1 x 150kg/331lbs x 3 (4 Board)

1 x 160kg/353lbs x 2 (3 Board)

1 x 170kg/375lbs x 2 (2 Board) PR

1 x 180kg/397lbs x 1 (1 Board) PR

2 x 180kg/397lbs x miss (chest)

Awesome PR. Touching the chest easy on only my second session. Will touch a weight to the chest and press it next week for a 20-25kg PR.

Video:

2. 2 Board Bench Press

1 x 70kg/154lbs x 10

3 x 110kg/242lbs x 10

3. Palms In Wide Grip Pulldowns

3 x 72kg/159lbs x 8

4. Face Pulls

3 x 60kg/132lbs x 12

5a. Standing Abs

2 x 48kg/106lbs x 15

5b. DB Bicep Curls

2 x 15kg's/35lbs's x 10

Other notes:

Good workout, still a bit clogged up from the sickness though so it makes the high reps hard.

Far out you're getting a lot out of that shirt. It flew off your chest!

And I haven't even jacked it yet...

See how we go next week, plan is at the moment to take 175 to the chest then give the shirt a good pulldown and see what it takes to touch. Probably 190+.
