welldone! n gud vid :)

I am aiming to compete in the Sub-Junior (under 18 ), under 100kg 2008 Oceania Powerlifting Champs. I figure I have around 20 months until that time, and before then I'm aiming to go to smaller scale meets. The guys in my division that competed last year got 620kg and 460kg totals respectively. At the moment my total is somewhere above 460kg, hitting a 185kg deadlift last wednesday, a 180kg squat last friday and aiming to hit a 100kg bench tomorrow to kick off my new program
590 total which is a 20kg PR

nice way to smash the beginning total (>460kg!!). does this put you in any (unofficial) placing in NZ?...only 30kgs off 1st equal yea?

Excellent job Mike!

Goign to be scary what you'll be lifting in a year if you move yourself down to the House or get in with a PL group.

Cheers Jono, training with a PL group next year, not at the House though (sadly). I met your mate Pala yesterday. He's a good sort, turns out we went to the same high school (but at different times).

Thank you small. My was 455kg, because I ended up getting a bench of 90kg (no pause) and also that 180kg squat was probably high as. My Squat/Bench/Dead/Total were all (unofficial) NZ records because the meet was a novice and because I need to be on the drug testing program for 6 months before I can set records.

Bledisbro Cup Results

Got to the House again at 9:30 on saturday with 5 hours max sleep under the belt. Watched the first flight to have a look at what it's all about. Met a bunch of guys from Powerhouse Gym forums (including AK and OB - who I actually met the night before) and weighed in at 94.9kg.

Squat

1st attempt: 200kg - 3 whites

Depth was strict so I made sure I buried it. Came up easy. Thank you Gazza and Paul for helping me with my wraps.

2nd attempt: 215kg - 3 whites

Harder than I thought it would've been, so I made a more conservative jump for the 3rd.

3rd attempt: 225kg - 3 whites 5kg PR

As easy as the second. Watching the video my form was better than I thought it was at the time. Still need to work on breaking at the hips though.

Bench Press - The first bench in my F6 was the warm up, thanks for getting it on me and noticing I was touching the bar too low. Lost circulation in my left hand and had to pull my shirt off. OB put it back on with only a couple of minutes to spare!

1st attempt: 110kg - 3 reds

Didn't lock out my elbows fully so the command never happened, I was unaware and went anyway. Judge still gave me the press & rack commands and it came up easy, but was always going to be red.

2nd attempt: 115kg - 2 whites, 1 red 5kg PR

Inside of my heel came off the ground slightly which gave me that red. Glad I kept my cool and corrected what went wrong in the first attempt.

3rd attempt: 125kg - 2 whites, 1 red 15kg PR

Heel thing again, something I gotta work on. Real grinder and I seemed to have 2 sticking points, but probably

Deadlift - Was well effed by this point, need to get the GPP up! Thanks to Gazza for helping me load the bar in the warm ups, especially after your effort in the 1st session.

1st attempt - 225kg - 3 whites

Speed weight, but still felt hard. I think it's a because of a combination of the bar I usually use for Deadlifting is a lot more whippy and the fatigue.

2nd attempt - 235kg - 3 whites

Really hard, was considering a smaller jump than 5kgs, but wanted to at least equal my PR so I went for 240.

3rd attempt - 240kg - 3 whites (equals PR)

Felt easier than 235kg, I thing I was good for more but easy to say things like that now. With near maximal attempts my shoulders drop a lot (I'm not sure why), which makes the lockout a lot easier.

Total: 590kg - Didn't get the 600kg but am now in the 1300lbs club. Here's the video again now that we are on a new page:

Awesome experience. Will be back for more

Hey MZ,

The refs were pretty fair all round a bit stricter on the seasoned guys but all the new guys yourself included they were pretty good. Clive Madge the Head Ref he gave 15 reds in row at the Nationals but he was pretty good at the BBro.

Commonwealths and Oceania's they want you to go 2-3 inches below parallel what the F*%K for? who knows. The rules say you have to break parallel, not destroy it.

But good lifting, you wre solid all the way round 8 from 9 lifts that pretty good it showed you picked you attempts properly. The missed lift was technical nothing else, you probably had a bit of room but it is better to come off the platform with the feeling you left some on there. Then to let the ego go for PBs and miss your total, which happen to guys in the 90s who came 2nd and 3rd.

Solid lifting MZ, you have a good base to work from, just learn from this one, look at your weakness, have a break 2 or 3 days you have 13 weeks to the CDs.

See you there

Pretty sure those Deadlift shoes had a big impact on your deads did you feel the Force young Jedi :D
