Day 82: Friday 17/08/2007

1. Bench Press

60 x 7 x 1

70 x 5 x 1

80 x 3 x 1

90 x 2 x 1

95 x 1 x 1

97.5 x 0 x 1

85 x 4 x 1

Wasn't feeling Bench tonight, I'm going to skip wednesday's shoulder workout next week, I think I was fatigued from that still.

2. Close Grip Bench Press

60 x 8 x 1

80 x 3 x 3

3a. Bent Over Rows

20 x 12 x 1

40 x 8 x 2

60 x 8 x 1

70 x 8 x 3

3b. Dips

93 x 8 x 3

A lot stronger than monday.

Other notes:

Man I'm feeling the squats. In the abs, quads, glutes, hams, ABDUCTORS! I can't believe I'm getting the bar on my back tomorrow as well.

Day 83: Saturday 18/08/2007

1. Squats

60 x 8 x 3

100 x 5 x 1

140 x 3 x 1

155 x 5 x 7

 These were so hard, and brutal. From easiest to hardest; 3, 4, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7. Pretty strange. In sets 5, 6 and 7 I was getting dizzy earlier and earlier. Felt so good to get the last rep up.

2. 10 Second Static Holds

100 x 1

140 x 1

162.5 x 3

My grip has improved a lot so these were easy as. I'll keep adding 2.5kgs everytime I do these until I don't hit all three work sets for 10 seconds, drop it down 5kg the next time and work up again.

3. Dumbbell Wrist Curls

10 x 12 x 1

16 x 10 x 3

Other notes:

It seems the body is adapting. There's about half the soreness now, the other half has been translated into hardness in my legs. Feels like a constant pump minus the endorphins. But squatting consecutive days (3 reps x 10 sets @ 162.5 tomorrow) will be a whole new adaption - hope it goes alright.

I'm feeling good - no niggles or any little injuries feel like they are coming through. I'll just keep plugging away with the stretching and hope it stays that way.

Until tomorrow,

:puke:

Day 84: Sunday 19/08/2007

1. Squats

60 x 8 x 2

100 x 5 x 1

140 x 3 x 1

162.5 x 3 x 10

Notes:

Easy compared to what was expected. Still hard as though. The sets dragged on for ages...

For those who haven't been reading, same squat plan again next week, PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 10 KILOS!!!

Sweet, that was the easy week.

...

Edit: Also, I have ZERO soreness now. Yay for adaption.

Day 85: Monday 20/08/2007

1. Speed Bench Press

40 x 8 x 1

50 x 3 x 1

55 x 3 x 8

2. Dips

93.5 x 8 x 1

103.5 x 5 x 2

108.5 x 3 x 2

Bodyweight was 93.5.

3. T-Bar Rows

1 plates x 8 x 1

2 plates x 8 x 1

3.25 plates x 6 x 3

4. Chin-Ups

93.5 x 7, 4, 3

Haven't done these for ages. 7 reps is still my mental block... I raced through the first 6 and then suddenly put the brakes on for the 7th. It's rank. I feel I'll never get any more than 7.

5. Shoulder Press

16 x 8 x 1

23.5 x 8 x 3

6. Concentration Curls

10 x 12 x 1

13.5 x 8 x 2

Other notes:

Good volume for under an hour. Good pump too lol.

Day 86: Tuesday 21/08/2007

Squats

60 x 8 x 1

100 x 5 x 1

145 x 9 x 4

These were easy as high rep squats get. I'm very confident for 150 x 9 x 4 next week.

10 Second Static Holds

100 x 1

140 x 1

165 x 3

Other notes:

I was pretty tired but managed to race through this workout. Pretty pleased.

Day 87: Thursday 23/08/2007

1. Squats

60 x 8 x 3

100 x 5 x 1

155 x 7 x 5

Notes:

Pretty damn easy considering.

Hardest thing to warm up was shoulders, they were so tight from continual squatting.

But yeah, easy, definately looking forward to seeing how much my strength has gone up.

I'm considering putting Squat and Bench on the backburner next year and going for the world record for deadlift. For my weight/age, it's 325kg. After this cycle my deadlift should be anywhere between 225-240. So I'd need to put on a little under 100kg in a little over a year. Is that possible? I'm thinking I'd run these sorts of cycles I am at the moment, but just for deadlifting, so I'd hope to pull 3-4 times a week most weeks. Plus I'd spend a lot of gym time on assistance.

Maybe? I dunno?

A 260kg deadlift by the end of the year (which I think is on the cards), would leave me 65kgs away from the record, with 12 months to do it by (Commonwealth Champs '08 I'm thinking). 6kgs/month would get me there comfortably.

Sorry for the rambling, trying to weigh stuff up... Is it worth comitting to?

I geuss I have until after December's meet before I need to make my mind up.

Deadlifts are my favourite and I think I have long arms, so good potential. If I put as much emphasis on my Deadlift as I did on my Squat (like most people do, Squat gives a lot more carryover to Deadlift than vice versa imo) my Deadlift would be dominant. And if I hadn't had that patch were I couldn't Deadlift for a while.

But back troubles are a distant memory.

Good luck with 4 plates! With the belt, if you haven't used one before, make sure you fill your gut with air and push against it. It'll make you really tight.

Hey, thanks man, means a lot.

Yeah there is that in the back of my mind but most of the under 18 records have been standing since mid-80's by guys from Ukraine and Russia. Probably juicing... So I don't think people have much of a chance of getting a world record unless they really focus on one lift (unless they have already been training for many years). I geuss part of me is hoping that no-one else decides to chase the dead record, but then again, bring it. :pfft:

Why not go for the world record? Flip, what an awesome goal!

Your squats have progressed in in leaps and bounds when you put your head down and worked for it. The commitment and drive is there. You've got the resources/coaching available to you if you need it. There's no reason why you can't do it.

The reason why I wouldn't go for it is because it would result in my Squats and Bench lagging - so total would become lagging also, and after next year I would be a bit behind where I could be totalwise. But then there's the massive upside of having my name in the books.

Ahh I see. So its either chase this U18 record or risk being a bit behind for when you compete in PL'ing next year?

Decisions, decisions...

I just wanted to add my voice to the others... go for it! I don't have any inspiring quotes like PnW does (she's obviously been better edumacated than I!) so I'll settle for a cliche instead: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Why would concentrating on deadlifts result in your bench and squat lagging? Surely you wouldn't be doing deadlifts and nothing else? In fact, I would have thought improving your squat would be essential to improving your deadlift?

Improving squat does improve deadlift. But I'd improve my deadlift a lot more if I focussed on it.

If I do pretty much forget about squat, I'd deadlift 4x a week most weeks.

Which would see a lot more gains IN DEADLIFT than would otherwise.

Maybe I could include sort of a quad workout in to help my squat without squatting too much? Or just take a wide stance and let my dominant posterior chain do the work for squatting?

I dunno, I'm not hurried about my decision either. Still got 3 or so months before I'll make up my mind.

325kg deadlift is a very big number. I think you have to be realistic with regards to what you're planning to do because adding 100+kg to your current deadlift within the given time frame is going to be hard. Not to discourage or take away anything from you, just a bit of reality here. Regardless, all the best if you're going to pursue it.
