"Ummm...you muscled up fast."

Morning everyone.

I had an interesting experience at the gym the other day. My son and I were working out and one of the guys we sometimes train with happened to be there. After watching me deadlift he sidles alongside me and says "Wow, your strength has increased a lot since you started and....ummm..you muscled up fast." This was said with him giving me a rather peculiar look and I could just tell what he was thinking. "He's on steroids."

I'm not. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against those that use steroids, it's their choice just like it's my choice not to use them. Each to his own.

I'm just wondering, how many of you have been asked if you're on steroids or it's been insinuated that you are. Even if you're completely natural?

In a weird way I sort of took it as a compliment. I'm not the best built guy or the strongest by a long shot but for someone to make a comment like that, even if it's a fishing expedition to see if I'm a 'user", I take it as a compliment. Maybe, just maybe the work I'm putting in is paying off after all.

One other question for you all. How and when do you look at a persons physique and decide "Ok, he's on steroids." What are the deciding factors? Are there any particular muscular/ physical signs that proclaim it?

Several people at our gym are pretty sure a couple of young guys use steroids. The rumors fly everywhere. To me, this in itself is dangerous. You can destroy a persons reputation this way. It may be true but then again it may not. Maybe it's jealousy. Whatever the reason I just think people should make sure they know the whole truth before the jump to conclusions.

these guys are just losers lol! these will be what you call haters... they resort to thinking "well i'm working hard (they just think they are but they're not) and eating right (again, they're not) and not making any progress so everyone else around me must be cheating and taking up steroids or they must be 'on' that expensive protein powders all day long"

just take it as a compliment and move on, last thing you want to be doing in a gym is wasting time trying to talk a loser out of his mind set, eventually he will only drag you down to his level. if it's out side of gym or something and you're feeling nice, perhaps you could take some time to educate that fool about how to do it the right way (how you're doing it)

if they are spreading rumors like a womans magazine then your best approach would be to have a direct confrontation where you tell them you don't appreciate the way they're operating behind your back.

if the direct approach doesn't work then as a last resort (or first, depending on which way you may be inclined), wait until they are benching then jump on and offer the 'bro' a spot they cannot refuse. mix it up a bit, pretend to be helpful a little then be a complete ass about it, leaving them in bad (but not deadly) situations etc.

It sounds like they were looking at that angle. It's at all levels though. Either it's another natural guy thinking you're on it cos you're progressing or it's a juiced guy thinking a bigger guy must be taking heaps more than him cos he's bigger.

Take the compliment!

get this alot with some of the younger guys too, late teens/early 20s, always hear "hes on the roids", about anyone who looks remotely better than average, because the masses aren't aware there are lifestyles that don't revolve around getting as wasted as possible every weekend, so anyone that progresses faster than them must be on "the roidzz"

Any one who is bigger or stronger then me at the gym I KNOW they are on steroids.

I find it hard to believe how many many people MUST be on steroids at the AUT uni gym :S

I have had a word to the staff at the gym about the obvious steroid situation there. But they just say I should worry more about my own training and maybe i would also get steroid like results if I trained more then once a week. (obviously the staff are using too)

Steroids are always used in a bad light and it's all the movies fault:

- The Incredible Hulk - govt funded scientist messing around with Gamma radiation - gets huge and aggressive - steroids

- Captain America - govt funded program to find a super soldier - roids

- Ong Bak - bad dude using roids with the final scene of him injecting 10 needles to try and beat Ong Bak - used roids

- Rocky IV - Ivan Drago had more scenes with a needle being inject into his arm than him speaking - used roids

The movies make people think that if you want to be super human you have to take some sort of performance enhancing drug.

Even the actors are taking stuff to be in better shape for their roles - Will Smith (Ali), Mickey Rouke (The Wrestler), Stallone, Charlie Sheen (Major League).

Back to topic - let them hate on you for training hard and being disciplined with your training. Small minds will always look to bring you down, to make themselves feel better about their short comings. Open minds will always look to learn from you to progress themselves forward. Surround yourself with open minded people mate. All the best.

LOLOLOLOL

but seriously.

I get accused of this daily at work (not on anything at the moment) And i think its quite rude as they have no idea how long i have trained or what i eat etc (im not big by any stretch) but yet they feel the need to ask me every chance they get, and if i get angry its "oh watch out here comes the roid rage" etc etc.

The thing is i will be doing a cycle soon so not looking forward to that, not that i give two shits what colleauges think but when there saying that sort of stuff around the bosses i find it innapropriate.

Isnt it ironic how you are accusing people you dont even know of taking stuff in a thread which is about wrongly accusing people of steroid use

Do you have any evidence that these actors took steroids?

Not sure about Will Smith, but Charlie Sheen openly talked about it, Mickey Rourke pretty much admitted it with a wink - when asked, he said he did what he needed to do his role in The Wrestler, and Stallone got caught bringing 48 vials of Jintropin into Australia, along with him admitting to using that and testosterone replacement.

Could have been achieved natty, we don't know much about him before this but does it even matter?

Actors really just use the stuff like another prop (excuse pun), movies like Rocky you just know are going to make it big time (immortalising the stars) and Stallone did what he had to do to be in his best condition at the time of the shooting.

but...why do we even care what others do or do not take? If it is contained to themselves, why must we make it our concern? When you're watching a BB show are you thinking about peoples cycles? Watching movies do you think about whether the lead got his physique natty or not? When you watch pornos do you fixate yourselves over what kind of dick pills the actors are popping?

Being natty is great but IMO people who go trashing/judging others who are not are just as bad as those religious nuts who do the same to anything against their literature.

Personally I think the bigger concern is people who use steroids and look natty.

What's all that shit about??

deserves a new thread hahaha

I just googled "actors and steroids" to support my movie character reference in my original post \:D/

No real evidence really though  :pfft: \:D/
