NZIFBB new classes?

I think bikini is good because it does involve the same level of dedication, training and nutrition as the other womens classes

I agree and disagree at the same time on this one.

I see it as there SHOULD be the same commitment (no need to diet quite as hard as the smooth look is desired) but from what I've seen at the NZ level doesn't back that up. Bikini girls walking on the stage and everything jiggling... :shifty:

But on the international level it is much better and that's where I agree with you. The way it's run is too much like a beauty pageant for my liking but then again, don't see how else it could be judged

imo bodybuilding and all associated classes are a beauty pageant

i accept that we're there to look at and be judged aesthetically, but I am NOT walking towards the back of the stage, stopping, turning, and looking back at the judges with that "come-hither" look.

well not unless the prize money goes up... I have morals and standards that cost money to break :pfft:

I wouldn't say they are a beauty pageant. A beauty pageant requires you to be judged on more levels than just your physical appearance. I.e they have talent rounds (e.g Play an instrument - TLG take note) and you make speaches about your views on the world and you are questioned by judges on current issues etc. People who win for their country often get to become embassadors and do charity work on the issues they outline in their speaches etc.

So in a way Bodybuilding is actually more superficial than our stereotypical veiws of a beauty pageant.....

Haha Dinah, i'm just saying some elements are too similar to a pageant, not that they are one and the same. And yes, bbing is about the most superficial event in existance

Yeah I have almost written the same thing in the past. That bikini or shape or fitness etc just seem like a beauty pageant and then realised that the stereotypical idea I was trying to put across by saying its a pageant (superficiality) is actually more represented in all of bodybuilding than in pageants themselves.

They should make an Asian class, named so not because the class is limited to the Asian race, but because entrants must not only be shredded as zyzz and posess a godlike physique, they must display mad skills in at least one instrument, perform flying acrobatics and at least two other feats of sickcuntiness in whatever discipline they choose.

I don't understand why the NZ fed is putting on these classes if the Australians are not ... seems odd as their fed would have way more athletes so could sustain more classes. Over here there just isn't enough (in NZIFBB that is) - I'm pretty sure if things keep going the way they are NABBA/WFF will be dominating. (Already are at this stage).

Bikini certainly has a place in the shows - this is a double back on my initial reaction to it being launched - Moe was on to it there but perhaps the launch didn't go so well as he basically rail roaded the dancers from the half time show into competing. But he was right about it - you cant argue with this ... not your average page 3 bimbo .. a lot of work has gone into her physique  definately bodybuilding

Faggots in boardies = little girls to pleasure themselves

Children = old men to pleasure themselves

Seriously though, they're stupid. NZIFBB has more opportunities at the next level, but f*ck, people could just move over to Aus.

More bums in seats? lolno. Less bums backstage = less bums in seats. How intimidated would the children be, seeing some Harry B mother f*cker, with striated FEET! Also, they're very immature so they will cause trouble with the men and women backstage. You know, the people who are really competing.

It's no place for a child to compete, and the guys in boardies are just gonna get dirty looks from the ACTUAL competitors.

Board shorts are for the gym, and children are for the play pen.

And if they actually see that it's a stupid idea, they'll hopefully change it, otherwise they lose at least quarter of the competitors. I wouldn't want to get to midnight and look like I'm off season and have to get up on overall or something. Nomsayin?

I have some sympathy for the Athletic Fitness class. It seems that boardies is to Physique what Bikini was to Figure, and people had slowly accepted that.

I think the fragmentation argument is valid to an extent. With a limited number of competitors already, why split them into even smaller classes? The counter to that argument is that if Men's/Women's Athletic Fitness is replacing some of the other classes, then you won't have more classes - just different judging criteria.

The problem is for someone like me who doesn't have a Physique build, the only other option now is this Athletic Fitness class? Not impressed with that. :?

My initial response to the kids' class was, "No. That's just wrong. Very wrong." Looking at the NZIFBB rules (which I highly recommend people do!) I'm not as horrified as I was, but I'm still not totally comfortable with it.

If the NZIFBB feels it has to diversify its classes, I'd rather see it go in the direction of cheerleading. And before I get given shit for that, I don't mean girls with pompoms! I mean competitive cheerleading, which requires much more skill and strength than sitting on a rowing machine does. It would be a whole lot more interesting for the audience to watch as well.

They already have their own competitions nationally & internationally. Why would you have them as part of Bodybuilding? Happy Birthday Big Guy :D

That's very true, Musclenz. I guess my point was just that it seems that's where some of these classes are heading anyway. Women's Fitness has always had a few similarities with cheerleading in their routine, and this new Kids' class looks like it's even closer. So why not make it official, instead of mucking around with board shorts and rowing machines?

Happy bday GOD.

Oh and in regard to your choices and not having a "physique" build.. well that's what weight classes are for. Or there's mens classic, height and weight stuff. I think for my height it's 77k is the upper end cut off and for the tall class it's somethinglike 86k?

It kind of looks to me like they are trying to atttract people to compete in classes which you don't have to train very hard for and are mainstream. Who knows, I want to compete so I will just sleep under a table backstage until I get my 10 seconds onstage lol

But that was my point - there doesn't appear to be a Classic class any more. Look at the rules page, and there's only a few classes left.

In fact, according to that page, there don't appear to be ANY traditional bodybuilding classes at all. Look at the Men's Physique rules - they're all wearing boardies too...

MENS PHYSIQUE (Updated 11/17/11)

Judging Criteria:

• Muscularity and Body Condition Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.

• Stage Presence and Personality Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts

That HAS to be a mistake, surely?!

I think it means it is not the same as the mens bodybuilding contest.... (as in the open classes)

And I hope they still have mens classic (Weight/height ratio without the boardies!) I thought that was good cos even though most are blates drug assissted its kinda combatting the whole argument of "Lets get as huge and freaky as possible"

This is still combatting that issue I guess...
