Mate of mine mentioned he is entering a physique contest. He is 104 kg with 7% bodyfat though, I would say he suits the bodybuilding category better.

Definitely bodybuilding!! I think that the athletic classes have weight restrictions.

so is the rowing and chins going to be judged on speed and reps or how good the person looks doing the exercises...

sounds fucking stupid either way, what does chins and rowing have to do with looking good?

what a gay attempt at building the sport lol

Isn't half the IFBB Exec a bit bent anyway ? :D Not that I'm homophobic at all, I can play the game if I have to :D but this is getting really OTT. Will the kids be tanning up backstage with the Big Boys? Will the pump room now have to be fitted out like a gym with cross-trainers & chin racks? It just conjures up a whole host of potential issues. If kids want to be into fitness, which I definitely condone, let them go to gymnastics class or cheer leading or play rugby or netball for that matter. I for one certainly would not want my 5 yr old daughter hanging around backstage at a Bodybuilding Competition. It just does not seem right. As for the Boardie Boys, whats wrong with the sports model & current fitness competitions. Really is it bodybuilding getting a Justin B haircut & shedding a few pounds to show yr 8 pak :pfft:

The new classes aren't just an NZ thing. It will add more variety for all that watch and those that want to compete - at various levels. If you truly are interested they are holding a seminar covering the new classes.

its not bodybuilding though, thats what everyone is saying.

Isn't that what fitness expo's, crossfit, rugby, oly weight lifting etc for?

If you go to watch rugby, that's what you expect to see

I can understand the whole get some more asses in the seats mentality but every year (before the addition of these new classes) the shows (especially WGTN's despite the organisation) have seen increase's in the attendance. This is putting athletes off from this organisation and with out the bodybuilders up there, you just have board shorts and pull ups to show to the audience

Well if you all have a problem with it don't go - pretty simple. It used to be figure was frowned upon as it wasn't "bodybuilding", same now with bikini which is huge in USA and Australia, and as long as the girls have put training in (which majority have) and don't just roll out of bed and think putting a bikini on and hopping on stage is a great idea it will get bigger here as well.

There still is bodybuilding, so don't see a problem.

Awesome attitude!

What did the existing athletes say when you told them...

So as a athlete, in a standard show, I am expected to stay till 11 at night for a show, that if it ran to schedule, by all rights should be done by 9. Now we add another minimum of 2 hours content to the day, content which is not about the physique (see word "bodybuilding" if you do not understand the relevance). Now for guys like Android, who know fully how difficult it is to hold their conditioning over the course of the day, need to be able to be at their peak when it comes to the overall pose down. This may not be a big deal for bikini and not so big for figure but for both male and female divisions, where conditioning is at a premium, alot of people will struggle to do this given it is a long and stressful day.

If you don't get this then it truly is a shame

I get what you're saying. The only thing is how many shows ever run to time - for any federation, not just the NZIFBB that everyone loves to have a moan about. So also curious as to what you do on the day of your show and there happens to be a huge turn out, and then that show goes on longer than expected anyway, you can't plan for that when holding your condition. Can you really see the likes of athletic fitness, and the physique being so big that it'll extend a show by 2 hours though? But then who knows, and that's the whole point you can't predict what is going to happen, every sport evolves and you just have to go with it.

Have you tried contacting the organisers with your concerns?
