I get what you're saying. The only thing is how many shows ever run to time - for any federation, not just the NZIFBB that everyone loves to have a moan about. So also curious as to what you do on the day of your show and there happens to be a huge turn out, and then that show goes on longer than expected anyway, you can't plan for that when holding your condition. Can you really see the likes of athletic fitness, and the physique being so big that it'll extend a show by 2 hours though? But then who knows, and that's the whole point you can't predict what is going to happen, every sport evolves and you just have to go with it.

Have you tried contacting the organisers with your concerns?

I don't think the sport is evolving. Actually I believe it is fragmenting even more with the introduction of these new classes this year & by the way it would be pointless discussing it with the local representatives because the decisions were made last year at an IFBB Exec level. Jim Manion & his M8s I guess. When NABBA International bought in the Glamour Class to compete with IFBB Bikini, I admit that I baulked a bit. But now I enjoy watching the girls strut their stuff, although I will be attending the biggest Australasian show this year in Mark Ryan's NABBA/WFF Southern Hemispheres where there is likely to be around 50 competitors in this class coming on stage 3 times each. Hell that's a lot of breast meat to consume :D But I'll tough it out I hope. Sorry to get side tracked, but what I was going to say, that Bodybuilding is as much an art form as a sport. I believe the sport aspect is in the gym & the training & the art form is in the competition & the shaping of the body into to its highest aesthetic form. I certainly don't believe this applies to children's fitness or for that matter the male physique class although I accept that there is an aesthetic form here but it is a watered down version of the old athletic classes. It makes me wonder what will be next. Maybe there will soon be a class for those hard working pole & lap dancers. Now that will certainly create havoc out in the pump room

I compete in the IFBB because I like the format and the level of competition so to tell me to leave is pretty retarded.

Doyouevenlift?

Get a grip, no need to be childish with your "doyouevenlift" crap.

Did I tell you to leave, no, you can make your own decision on what you do, but if you don't like it live with it and stop whingeing or leave. Sounds simple to me.

Are you really going to go off the opinion of someone you don't know that if you don’t like it then don't go- you make your own decisions but you sound like a broken record.

You guys on here are impossible, I'll leave you to bitch amongst yourselves.

The absurd thing about this is that it takes the focus of the shows away from bodybuilding...the very opposite of what they think they are achieving.

We all know fitness is huge, its popular, it will take off and bring in more sponsors, more coverage, more seats but it isn't helping bodybuilding at all.

If we need these new classes just to keep going ummmm...we're doing something wrong. This isn't WFF, it's IFBB for fucks sake people

Personally I think other organizations will do a far better job of this. Bikinis and boardies look way better in summertime and outdoors than in a cold school hall mid-June, just sayin'

if they want to think outside the square they should pick a less conventional venue .... have a "muscle car" class ... who doesnt like hot cars?! when you combine the two there is something for everyone. This would be a more effective "halo" effect, which is what thy are wanting to achieve. What hasnt been considered is that the divisions will only get further erroded. people will turn up ... get confused as to what class they ae in ... but that doesnt matter cause only 1-3 competitors ineach - so everyone wins lol ... but then the promoter/exec installs a silly rule where you can compete in multiple events which is rediculas (bikini in figure etc etc) ....

guaranteed to get more people to shows ...

throw in a wet tshirt competition .... strongman .... deadlift/bench comp .... book a whole weekend - with supplement suppliers and energy drink companies etc .... you have a major event ...

Ummm cars & testosterone....ask Thatwaslight what happens?!! :pfft:

I'd be happy to fire the HZ up and pull some mean burnouts while fist pumping the Open Mens Physique trophy out the window! :pfft:  Front row may not be too happy getting covered in smoke & rubber and the odd steel belt....

I like the expo idea tho Opti, NABBA-WFF did a bench demo with the Eastside Barbell guys at one show that went down well, as did the old Strongest Arms comps in the NZFBB Wellington shows of old.

I did an expo in Brizzy with OzStrongman that also featured a one format BBing show, Mark Ryan's NABBA from memory?

yeah ... i remember the feedback from those events as being very good.

FYI NABBA:WFF / NABBA:NAC ... NZPO may be interested in supporting their auckland events with a bench comp via CBC ... first in first served. Im sure there would be some interest from other pling gyms in each centre for support here also. great way to build interest in a sister sport.

who doesnt want to see what happens next .... and the powerbuilder should be equally recognised at bb shows if beach bums can be lol. what would you rather see? a male model class or a mamoth lifting heavy shit? ... if it works at the arnold classic why arent the nz feds following suit. Perhaps when CAPO get here they will run a physique show/bikini comp alongside a lift .... hmmmm

I also like the idea and having all the major supplement brands giving out samaples at the show just like what they have at the Olympia and the Arnold also having other events like strong man, power lifting,MMA also having pro's signing autographs which would be very cool if that were happen hear in NZ.

Interesting commentary about the new classes. I just wtached the australasias and we had 3 or maybe 4 classes of bikini girls, lots of comparisons and quite a few girls in each class. Probably took the bulk of the prejudging. Then we had two men's classic classes, tall and short, loads of comparisons and took quite a while running through these classes.

Then by the time we got to open men, well they had enough time for one run through of compulsories, the adjudicator was just plain rude to the competitors, (enough that were I onstage I probably would have told him I dieted long enough for the comp that the least he could do is not be a wank) then they just marched the guys off.

I am not against the bikini or the mens classic, it attracts more competitors and means better venues and more income for the promoters lol.. BUT bugger me if I can work out what they are looking for?

The show was basically 80 percent time spent on this stuff and then hardly any time spent on bodybuilding.

As for the mens boardie class? WTF and the kids classes are just plain wrong and serious I mean wrong. Thankfully we didn't have these at the australasias but no doubt they will come in time.

In a way Chloe you are right in saying if we don't like it don't compete but ummm it's just very dismissive and well... stupid to say that. I am sure show promoters don't share your view, they want people to want to compete so that they can make enough money to pay for the shows to run.

that's how I see it happening over here Harry, the focus will change for $$$

It is as simple as Chloe says and it's not that offensive...if we don't like it go elsewhere.

After many years of attendance I'll be going elsewhere and taking my support and supporters with me and anyone else that wants to compete as a bodybuilder I'll be telling them to pick a Federation that is dedicated to bodybuilding.

Quoted for truth

Are you two ex-NZIFBB competiotors saying you're off to NABBA-WFF, NABBA NZ or INBA??

Haha I've got some business to tend to in the NZIFBB so I'll handle that first, give them a chance to put on a good show and make my decision afterwards

I think bikini is good because it does involve the same level of dedication, training and nutrition as the other womens classes. But I just think its not taken as seriously by other people. It just makes me cringe when I've been at shows and everything is fine through the other womens classes but then all the guys are like "Wreeeyyyy its the bikini girls... Tits and ass" Its not my opinion its just generally what I hear around me being in the audience at shows. It just kinda demoralises it all for me.

And I kinda have the same feeling about men's physique. Though maybe it will even things out and kinda make it better for womens bodybuilding by having it as kinda on par with bikini. It's not that it is a noddy class where people just get up and pose and dont even train for it I'm 100% sure the competitors will put in the same level of training etc.

I think that in the eyes of most people physiques like you see in bikini or mens physique would be way more achieveable and have more appeal to the average joe than mr or mrs O. And from a PT point of view anything that can persuade or inspire people to train hard and have a goal to work towards can only be a good thing.

I dont even know what the answer is this is just how I see it.
