Great lifting...youve got some strong boys down there bro. Good idea to post up regular vids...

maybe the mods could give us a training vids area...? Help promote both sports etc

Sorry for late post on this but I only just saw it and had been thinking the same thing! Worth bringing up again I think.

John Warren, aged 71 warming down with 160 kg for 5. His best is 207.5kg in a competition which is an unofficial world record in the 83kg class for over 70 year olds. Not sure what other 70 plus year olds are up to? I personally find this to be inspirational. The best part is that John has only been training for 5 years.

John Warren is a beast. I seen him at the SI PL champs last year and it was fucken awsum! check the video

Hes one of those old guys you try and rob coming out of the RSA and bang your on the ground missing a tooth.

Good to see age is no barrier. Its when you stop that you die.

John needs to make that WR official! What an inspiration

He was hoping to do this at the Nationals this year. The IPF has changed the rules and you can only set new world marks at international events. Go figure...

Thats right I forgot about that. There is an Oceania meet next year I think, might be worthwhile aiming for that because I doubt anyone in the world would come close to his lift, thats how freaky his lift is!

Also Felix Estabauer in the 100kg class @ 70+yrs deadlifted an unofficial WR at the 2006 nationals. I think he lifted 225kg but even though we had NZ drugFree Sport testing at that competition the drug testers had already packed up and left and his record wasnt allowed.

There was a fair bit of controversy with this ruling and alot of it came down to some countries questioning the legitimacy of some WR's coming out of sum countries. i.e There were also inconsistencies with some countries and there so called drug testing program that never ever stood up to WADA standards as well as some suspected favouritism with local refs on local lifters. Youtube exposed alot of suspect WR lifts set at national champ level that went through as WRs.

In saying that, there is ample oppotunity to set WR's still for lifters:

- International invitational comps (for example the Aussie nats this year)

- Oceania 3 lift/bench champs (every 2 years)

- South Pacific Games

- Commonwealth champs (every 2 years)

- World Games

- IPF Internationals 3 lift/bench

Good post R. I shouldn't be so negative. The Oceania champs are in Sydney next year. And I am trying hard to persuade John to go the Masters Worlds. Gold Medal and world record would be awesome.

Liam Smart- 15 years old and playing first XV for St Bedes in Christchurch. Liam started with me in November 2010. He is now benching is bodyweight for 10 reps and squatting 1.5 times his bodyweight for 10 reps. I have to hold him back. He has been nagging me to let him do some max singles but for obvious reasons we are not going there for a while. I let him do an easy single tonight on the trap bar- 175 kg. He has a lot more in the tank.

These guys train twice a week during the season and it's basic compound movements. The key is making them better rugby players and making them less prone to injury.

He is tall, over 6 foot and is going to be super strong. In the off season we plan to pack on some muscle as well as continuing to work on his strength. The main thing is enjoyment.
