Addicted to training and now.. competing!

Hi Andy, you have a great physique mate - very nice shape and symetrical. Its rare to see an absolute first timer come through with such great condition. Well done. I'd say your only opportunity to work on, as a novice, would be your stage presence. If you were more confident with your posing and came in a bit darker tanned you'd give the open graders a good go for their money.

Wellcome to the forum and contrats on your show last week.

Hey guys, thankyou so much for the kind words.. I will take your advice 100% I was very nervous on Sat and had no idea what to expect, was the last to get changed out back hahaha. I thought the event was extremely well run, very professional, and a great bunch of people...

Just happy to be involved! :D

I remember seeing you backstage mate and you looked sharp, real lean and great lines.

Optimass's advice is right on the money as well(again). IMO your physique was the best balanced of the top three, the key is show casing it properly!

You really can't spend too much time practising posing, especially the mandatory 1/4 turns and compulsories. So many guys train and diet like demons all year only to spoil it by not starting posing practise early and getting advice from more experienced competitors, this leads to shaky. unconfident posing or worse, looking at what the other guys are doing!

It's definately worth paying for a fortnightly posing practise session from an experienced competitor during the lead up to a show if youre unsure of how to get the best out of your poses. Personally, I need to do this for my next comp as several of my mandatories were definately poor on stage!

Posing practise Is not easy, especially whilst dieting where your energy levels allow for training, work and not much else! but it is essential to practise regularly to place highly. I recommend starting with the front relaxed and 1/4 turns when you start dieting as a good base starting point, this gives you plenty of time to get your body used to isometrically holding the poses(which is bloody hard work). A good point to rember is that every muscle from your feet up to your neck should be tight, with only your face relaxed, which is not easy to do! Starting with 15 seconds in each position for 3-4 "sets" of posing, then adding time each week is a good starting point

A good example from that show was Matteo, who has the total package on stage: wicked physique, confidence, complete control of posing his physique to highlight his strengths and minimize any weaknesses and the ability to make it look easy and smile throughout his routine!

Basically you are being judged from the moment you step out on stage, so projecting confidence, staying flexed, keeping waist tight, head up and appearing relaxed will all help and make an impression with the judges.

Congrats on the placing mate, the only other thing I would perhaps add would be some more tan on stage, maybe one more coat of Dream Tan of Kabbakoff to get a few shades darker and create more shadow betwwen the muscle groups on stage.

Good luck for the next seasons comps, I'm sure with the shape you came in at the Nth Harbour and your current motivation levels that you will do real well next year!

I'm sure the guys in your class were in shock when you took your shirt off mate :pfft: ... 2nd place is good for this show. IMO its the best qualifier to do as you can concentrate on nearly a full year of training befre you get back on stage. If you can come in as conditioned for nationals next year you'd be a favorite to win your class as long as you learn to move - you should see if you can get a couple of sessions with Tony Ligaliga at the Environment Gym in Penrose - he has always been an outstanding poser - well worth the investment.
