Bench felt good, squats on the other hand not so great - still feeling the skills assessment I think, was really tight through my hips and quads. Once warmed up though it wasn't too bad, just slow

Those squat and bench PB's you got the other day what was the time frame from the last PB?

Hmm squatted 200 on 28th November last year, as for the bench - benched 107.5 in August last year at nationals haha, but 107.5x4 a few months ago. Pretty confident I had a fair bit more in the tank than what I went up to at skills assessment though - those lifts should have been 90-95%.

-Deadlift to knees (conv.) - 120x3x3, 145x5, 162.5x3x2

-Bench - 67.5x3, 80x2, 85x2, 92.5x3, 100x2x2

-Below knee rackpull (conv.) - 140x3x2, 150x2, 172.5x2x4

Really good workout today, nice and light so got through it in about an hour. Feeling a bit more recovered now.

that is definately sound progress...

but, your 18 right?

So that means you were quite strong to start with?

or were training from very young?

or made faster progress at the begining?

:D cheers

Yeap 18, 19 on 28th September. Not strong at all to start with, started training (terribly, and terrible diet) when I was 15 or 16 and 58kg (no bench, squat or deadlift). After about a year I realised I wanted to get serious about it so started eating a shit load and training hard (like a bodybuilder, and no squats or deadlifts) - was up to about 80kg in 3 or 4 months, but a descent amount of fat. Started squatting and deadlifting and dropped a bit of fat (~80kg squat/40kg bench/100kg dead), then joined Powerhouse in October 2008 and got my form up to scratch and competed in my first comp 2 months later - 150 squat/95 bench/185 deadlift.

So yeah... fast progress at the beginning, slowed down for a bit (low volume training, dropping weight etc), and now pretty fast again (I'm starting to learn what works for me, forms tidying up a lot, more focus, etc).

Hope that helped haha

-DB Flys - 35x10x5

Really good workout today, squat feeling good again - used my old Inzer wraps on the top set (not wrapped particularly tight) and felt a bit more 'pop' out of the hole than the Strangulators - think I will use them at the CDs as they suit my raw form more. Bench felt good, nice and solid, but I was tending to touch a bit high on the top sets.

Awesome workout, everything feeling good. The top set of squats felt ridiculously easy - fastest i've ever moved 182 Used the Inzer wraps again, so bouncy

Definitely!

Anyway, journally stuff - have been keeping my diet really healthy - tons of protein and good fats, reasonably low carbs (still 250g + per day) and have been maintaining weight right at about 80.5kg. Though I wasn't eating all that much, but just calculated how many calories i've had today - ~4200, 5000 yesterday, today was a pretty small day eating wise (still 1kg of chicken)...

Sheiko is sucking up everything it can get!

CDs

Weighed in at 80.0kg (after breakfast).

First year as a junior, 82.5kg.

Squats (belt and knee wraps)

-195kg - 3 Whites - Easy weight, came up nicely

-210kg - 3 Whites - Walk-out wasn't great so weight felt a bit heavy on my back, squat was no problem though. Came forward a bit too much coming out of the hole. (10kg comp PB and 10kg CD junior record)

-220kg - 3 Reds - Would have had this on a better day, just needed to descend a bit faster and really explode out of the hole. Felt more comfortable under this than the 210 though, was nice and tight.

Bench (wrist wraps)

-105kg - 3 Whites - Felt ok, a bit slow though

-112.5kg - 3 Whites - Brought my grip in a bit and this was easy

-117.5kg - 3 Whites - Was going to go 120 but was a bit cautious, probably should have done it anyway as this wasn't too much of a grinder (not too smooth though). 10kg comp PB

Deadlift (belt)

-200kg - 3 Whites - Easy weight, but wasn't feeling at full strength after the squats

-215kg - 3 Whites - Not too bad, was a bit shaky though. 5kg comp PB raw

-222.5kg - 3 Reds - Not too flash. Got to the top and thought my shoulders weren't back, strained to get them back but in reality it was my knees that weren't locked out :wallbash: Should have had this.

Total: 542.5kg (42.5kg raw comp PB)

Awesome comp, perfectly run as usual and a great bunch of competitors. Big thanks to Warren and Ruth for organising, and to Ruth for running my attempt cards as well. Some really good lifting and plenty of PBs. Was a great day!

Good work matt,

Nice raw total for sure!

Deadlift crackup, you'd be gutted when you realized you were trying to correct the wrong thing! Now you just gota remember that feeling, so next time you go for the knees not the shoulders :D

Thought I should probably start keeping track of my recovery workouts. Since the end of last year I've been doing them on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Usually just:

-Shoulder dislocations - 3x12

-Facepulls - 3x12

-Dizenzo rows - 3x10

-Quad stretch - 2x20 seconds

-Hamstring stretch - 2x20 seconds

-Calf stretch - 2x20 seconds

And sometimes a bit of cardio (10 or 15 mins).

Seems to really keep on top of everything - my shoulders and elbows are feeling great
