Do squats cure cancer?

Yes, they cure everything. And it's time for another journal.

I've started a few journals on here but never really kept them going. My main journal is up on the Powerhouse forum but thought I might as well post here as I read a bit here too.

So, I'm 18 and compete in the 82.5kg class - just entering Juniors this year. My training varies a bit between pure strength training and sometimes a bit of bodybuilder-esque training. But however i'm training, there are many many squats.

Any input is always greatly appreciated. Enjoy.

Last few weeks of training:

4/01/10

-Bench - 50x5, 62.5x5, 75x5, 87x5, 100x5

-Squat - 105x5, 125x5x2, 147.5x5x5 (B)

Bench felt amazing, squat felt a bit off but settled into the form on the 4th or 5th set. Great workout. Will go in to work for a bit of core and upper back stuff in a few hours

4/01/10

Finished the rest of the workout

-Chin ups - BWx5, BW+20kgx5x2

-Underhand pull downs - 6, 6, 6, 6

-Seated rows - 10, 5, 5

-Hammer curls - 12, 10, 6, 6

-Shrugs - 60x15, 100x10, 120x10x3

-Ab pulldowns - 10, 10, 10, 10, 10

-DB side bends - 10, 10

Waay too hot today, feeling good though

Brought Friday's workout forward 2 days and dropped Wednesday as i'll be away til Monday. Hamstrings and shoulders were sore!

-Bench - 50x5, 62x5, 75x5, 87x5, 102.5x3, 72.5x8

-Squat - 105x5, 125x4x2, 147.5x3x2 (B), 157.5x3x5 (B)

First rep on top set of bench was a bit funky, the other two were fine though - no problem with the weight. Squat was a bit slow, not bad though. Now off for a few days break, then back into it on Monday night!

Back into it

-Bench - 50x5, 62x5, 77.5x5, 90x5, 102.5x5

-Squat - 105x5, 125x4x2, 147.5x3x2, 167.5x2x5 (Belt), 115x3, 137.5x3, 157.5x3x4 (Belt) - Took a while to settle into my form, and get my belt right (ended up doing a few of the top sets without it, and then just had it loose).

-Chin ups - BWx5, BW +20kgx5

-Seated row - 12, 8, 8, 8, 8

-Hammer curls - 12, 6, 6, 12, 10, 8

-Shrugs - 12, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10

-Pulldown abs - lots

-DB side bends - 10

Good workout, trained pretty late though after being in a van all day...

13/01/10

-Seated OHP - 20x10, 40x5, 60x3, 70x3x3

-Tricep pushdowns - 10, 10, 10

-Facepulls - 20, 20, 20

-Lateral raises - 10, 10, 10

-Elbow rehab

-DL - some singles up to 200 (sumo)

Good workout, not feeling my deadlift atm though

15/01/10

-Bench - 50x5, 62.5x5, 75x5, 90x5, 105x3, 75x8

-Squat - 105x4, 125x4, 147.5x3x2 (B), 157.5x3x6 (B), 115x3, 137.5x3, 157.5x2x4 (B)

Great workout today. Told Dave i'd be finished the squats in 25 minutes, and i did (had to cram the last 3 sets into 3 minutes though...) Finally weighed myself today, 82.0kg in clothes and shoes, with breakfast and water in me. Need to add a few more carbs

16/01/10

Really good workout today, had to reset for the last rep on bench though (slippery bench at work + no spotter). Squats felt light and easy. Keeping belt pretty loose at the moment, forces me to really push out and stay tight in the hole

20/01/10

-Incline DB bench - 10, 8, 6, 10

-Seated OHP - 10, 8, 6, 2

-Dips - BWx10, BW+20kg x 6

-Tricep pushdowns - 10, 10

-Shrugs - 20x12, 60x12, 100x10, 120x10

-Deficit deadlifts (standing on two plates) - 60x5, 100x3, 140x1, 1, 1, 1, 1 - Just working on speed off the floor and keeping my hips down/engaging my hamstrings.

Good workout today, too hot though. Deadlifts felt really good, will continue with the deficit deads just working up slowly each week, keeping the volume low

22/01/10

-Bench - 52.5.x5, 62.5x5, 77.5x5, 92.5x5, 107.5x3, 77.5x8

-Squat - 105x5, 125x5, 147.5x5x2 (B), 160x4x5 (B)

Pretty s*#t session today, no energy when i got a few sets in on bench. Squats were slow and painful, my core was really sore and I had a headache. So not a great day, but they happen. Still got through what I needed to do, and the squats weren't too hard.

25/01/10

Bench felt good, missed the 5th rep though - think I might have got it if I had descended a bit faster on the 4th, but oh well. Squats were a bit of a mission today, got through them ok albeit the top sets were pretty slow. Form felt good though and didn't deteriorate until about the 14th set

Horrible workout today, way too hot and everything felt ridiculously heavy. Time for a deload week, and then into the prep for CDs.

Yeah! Squats do cure everything. Following with interest :) Good luck for the CD's.

I preach that to all the bodybuilders/bench 'n curls/talk on cellphone/l"I have a sore lower back" gym goers at work, maybe one day it'll get through to them. Cheers, you entering any comps this year?

So much for a deload week... Felt really good today so just got into the next cycle. The squats felt like speed work, very pleased. Not quite used to the bench volume though

what are you maxes?

Was doing Sheiko volume stuff for squats and 5x5 for bench for the last 8 weeks, just started back onto Sheiko 37 for the next month then a Sheiko peaking cycle for my next comp. Best comp lifts are: 200 squat (knee wraps), 107.5kg bench and 220.5kg deadlift. Best in the gym are a little higher I guess, bench in particular. Hoping for 227.5 squat, 130 bench and 230 sumo deadlift in April.

Pffttt. A Subjunior record. The fact you squatted your DL raw last comp indicates to me your dead sucks :grin:

You know I had 220 in me at the BBro, I just failed hard. Should be interesting at CDs though - if I out squat my dead in knee wraps you can say my dead sucks! And yeah that sounds good, see you then.

Yeah mate sounds good, but this year I am doing my last two novice comps in the upper north Island so maybe next year brother when I join up.

-Dips - 5x2 - Hurting elbow so did some high rep pushdowns instead

-Pull downs - 10 overhand, 10 underhand x2

-Ab pulldowns - 40x10x3

Really good workout, first time doing a proper sumo training session - felt nice and fast.

Great workout, bench felt good. Squats really good, first time in knee wraps in a while - first set felt really easy, second set tried with the bar a bit higher and it wasn't great.
