Just out of curiosity anyone attend Academy of Combat in Christchurch? I'm thinking of going for a concession or something there, and possibly switching clubs. Would love to know if anyone has been there and how they would rate it.

at this stage i just want a gym with some bags and boxingesque kit for me to train/retrain myself, i took a year and a bit off to focus on gaining some quality weight and fixing some imbalances

ive been doing martial arts and kick boxing at proactive for like 7 years but its getting hard to fit the classes into my schedule

From personal experience, I can say that Geoff Todd is THE man when it comes to realistic, effective ass-kickery. The Dunedin depot is the home base for the Todd Group. From there, Tank teaches, among others, the NZSAS, as well as running CQB and close protection courses around the world.

Highly effective. I've only needed to use what I learnt a few times, but was extremely glad to have learnt it.

So you've met Tank then? U'll understand why he has the nickname lol

was thinking rex kwan do (napolean dynamite) as soon as you said that.

I'll have to check out strike forces gym. Im not to worried bout self defence, im more interested in martial arts as a sport.

cheers for the input so far, sounds like i should check out the todd group regardless.

Todd group is CQB. have you ever done CQB before?

its not really anything applicable to sport and competitive fighting.

CQB is kill or be killed. they do it at CMMA where i train.

then come join us at SF. good guys. we train hard and fight hard.

MMA and Ju Jit trainer is Karl Webber. big name in NZ for MMA.

Hell yes! Strikeforce is the number one MMA and kickboxing organization in the country. If your really serious about competing no other clubs come close. Strikeforce records in the ring and cage speak for themselves.

Looks like we got a few strikeforce fans :3

I had a look at some of the latest results...strikeforce seem to do well. Actually Christchurch isnt too bad on the MMA scene I thought the north islanders would be all over us, but thats not the case at all.

I like the idea of not having a contract as well.

I'll have to stop in at strikeforce as well then.
