They're just in NZ for the Oceania bench champs this weekend.

Quick update on the past few days.

Friday:

Had to train quads at rec centre, as most of the weights had been shifted to the oceania bench comp. Didn't go too heavy but managed to have a play around on the hack squat, love it.

Saturday:

Arms at the rec centre as well. Just a quick workout before oceania bench. Got 65x6 on skullcrushers which is a PB.

Sunday:

Went down to eastside and had a play around on the log with Alf, Baxter and Steve Varga. Pressed 120 without much trouble, but couldn't clean it so had to do it from rack, need some practice here.. Missed 130 twice, second attempt was pretty close, got the weight above my head but it was too far out to finish it off. I still would have gotten it if my triceps weren't fried. First time push pressing it. I think the major thing is to pre-empt pushing your head through, found there was a moment of stalling like "oh, whoops, should push my head through now".

I truly believe a 150 log press is on the cards for me this year with practice under my belt.

Good work getting 120 on the log bro

ya reckon get the head drive going as soon as you can clear the log out of your face sort of thing? I've been working on my head drive and I have to make a real conscious effort to get it happening on my OHP. any tips would aprreciated

Week #73 - 15/02

Monday - 15/02

Posterior chain

Rack pulls, pin 3, doubled mediums 60x8 100x5 140x3 180x1 belt, 220x1 260x1 PB 280x0

Stiff leg deadlift 60x10 100x10 3x160x10

Lying leg curl 4 sets

A bit of a deload on lower day this week. Cutting volume on this day and on quads I won't use a barbell as well. Glutes and lower back need a break from the double thrashing they receive each week. Listening to my body has been my biggest weakness in training, starting to pay attention now.

Happy with that 260 PB on the rack pulls, weighs 330 at the top. 280 was too much though and I couldn't budge it. 270 was on the cards for sure, despite moving furniture around all day! I think this equates to around a 310 deadlift off the floor. This was my goal (albeit conservative goal) for Canterbury champs in 10 weeks time. Now I just have to do it (and do it after squatting and benching). Got 10 weeks to work on it so maybe I can add a little extra.

Tuesday - 16/02

Chest

Incline bench press 2x60x10 2x85x8 105x6 110x6

Flat dumbbell fly 15x10 25x9 27.5x7 20x10

Decline chest press 3 sets

Cable crossovers 4 sets

Happy with 110x6 after that volume, easiest that weight has ever felt. Will try and get 120x6 within the next couple of weeks, then try my luck on the flat bench again leading up to Canterbury's.

The past week has been a bit out of routine due to Oceania bench and then moving flats. However, I'm very happy with how my training has been going lately.

I was thinking more start head drive before log clears your face to keep it as close as possible the whole time. Just a matter of getting the timing right I think. But I'm no expert.

If you can get a good push press going should be sweet just don't want to face plant into that log. I will jump in with you boys next time the log comes out.

140 is a very repsectable row 8) Tops
i agree those rows are impressive.

actually everything is impressive  :pfft:

Thank you guys. Used to do barbell rows pretty upright, but right now I'm doing them right bent over so the weight stretches to about mid shin at the bottom. I think both styles have their benefits.
