Chillicat's journal

Based on the info you've given in your journal (60kg, Tanita BF 20.6), I used my special blend of herbs and spices to come up with 2168 calories (maintenance). I'm happy to send you the formula I used.

That would be great. 2168 seems good too, and puts me at 1668 if I go by the 'minus 500 to lose weight' formula. So that means that the half a sculpt shake with milk that I just had (because I was hungry, dammit!) doesn't really put me over the edge calorie wise - pretty much bang on! Tips me slightly over on carbs, but I'm not going to beat myself up over one percent or whatever.

Like I said earlier - today I've eliminated a bunch of apples, a tortilla, and probably something else that I can't remember right now as my brain is a bit fuzzy from staring at a screen all day. Baby steps! I know myself, and I know I won't stick to it if I make too many changes in one go, and if I can make it through this week on the reduced carbs, maybe then I can make further changes later.

Yeah that sounds good to me, and that's basically what I've done (Ditch the fruit where I can, tortilla wrap, keep starchy carbs to weights days) and I've slightly increased protein and good fats.

Let me know how you go chick (and vice versa etc).

I know ay, silly me. Only idiots would make use of the high exchange rate instead of paying inflated local prices.

Oh totally - I'm thinking of doing a bit of a pre-Xmas bulk buy to take advantage of the rates - I re-worked it out, and even with the postage cost I saved around NZ150 on my purchase!

Hamburger salads FTW
Yep!

I was just going to just have a shake this morning to counteract all the carbs I'm having in tonight's salmon kedgeree - but since I'm doing both weights and a spin class today, I thought that would just be silly - I need that good start to the day, so I had my normal oats - yum!

I can work on ditching more carbs on non-workout days, that shouldn't be too difficult (but having said that, non-workout days and weekends are the same thing, and that's my danger time!).

Part one of today's leg workout:

Smith squats 52.5kg 5x5

Smith lunges 32.5kg 5x5

Deadlifts 32.5kg 4x8

Sumo squats 28kg 4x8

Seated calf raises 52.5kg 1x12; 55kg 1x10; 57.5kg 1x8; 60kg 1x12

Seated leg press 115kg 10x10

Part two is spin class after work.

I'm been busy stressing over tonight's high carb dinner, which is going to put me at about 100g of carbs for today, or around 32%. It's a lot higher than yesterday's 64g/20% (and not what I plan to have on a daily basis) - but is it really that bad? I mean not as as an every day thing, but as a once a week thing? The reason why I ask is that I'm reading my new Oxygen mag that arrived yesterday, and it has a thing on carbs, and it calls low carb days when you eat in grams your bodyweight in lbs - so I weigh about 60kg/132lb, which means that 66g of carbs in a day is considered low by that calculation. Medium they say is the equivalent in grams of your bodyweight in lbs, so for me that would be 132g, and high is bodyweight x 2 or 3, which is collossal really.

So my dinner tonight is now officially guilt free!

Welcome to the world of carb-cycling!

My PT had me on a routine with precisely that three-step graduated carb approach. Essentially, it was three days of low-carbs, one day of high. But, if a low-carb day coincides with training, there's an intermediate step. So, you're still doing the right things. KUTGW

Oh good! I figure that if I'm doing both weights and a spin class then I deserve a carb or two. Looks like quesadilla night doesn't have to disappear then - I'll just make it on a Thursday night or whatever night I do spin!

Good idea. I didn't realize the dollar was still soo high. Nice! As much as i complained, i guess my saving of around $110 was well worth the wait. Just means alot of pre-ordering next time. Plus they have way more variety!

Oh yeah, they have such a lot of cool stuff. I'm already thinking about my next order, trying to workout which delicious PP flavours to try. And $110 is such a good saving, you really can't pass that kind of saving up!

I reckon if you buy enough so that the courier cost is more or less the same as the international post, and pick courier, you'll be fine in terms of it arriving in good time.

Have been finding work very tedious today (I think it's because I'm all out of sorts because I left my mobile phone at home), but feel much better after a nice workout, and ready to attack the rest of the afternoon.

I'm going to try to remember to put PBs in from now on.

DB chest press 15kg 4x8 (PB)

Flyes 9kg 3x12

Unassisted tricep dips on assist machine - 5x5 (I think I got down marginally further than last time, which was about an inch. Today it's about an inch or so!)

Skullcrushers 15kg 4x5 This is my highest weight for these, but form wasn't great so am going to drop back to 12.5kg for a while and build up to 15kg

Tricep bench press 15kg 3x12 PB

Tricep kickbacks 7kg 3x8

Seated dips (machine) 52kg 10x10

Spaghetti arms now!

That'll be the 5x5 lunges, then :)

Go harder on the squats...Rose sez they're good for you!

When you log 'deadlifts' on leg day, are you doing deadlifts or "stiffleg deadlifts". I'm sure regular deads work legs hard, but I've always been encouraged to think of them as a back thing - but stiffleg deadlifts work the living daylights out of hamstrings

I can't walk for a couple days after those damn things

Lunges, squats or deads, VC? They's all good fun, eh!

I'd say they're stiff legged deadlifts. I googled both deadlifts and stiff legged deadlifts and what I do is definitely stiff, and is the way I was taught to do them in pump classes - slight bend in the knee, and the movement comes from hips, not from knees - which remain the same throughout. When doing the move, I definitely feel it in the backs of the legs.

I've seen the odd person here and there in pump classes doing the move completely with their knees - but they are normally first timers who quickly get corrected - so I guess I should call them stiff legged deads? But after 9 years of calling them just deadlifts, I'll probably be to lazy to change now!

Got to work at my normal 7.30am today, new Office 2007 system installed - but not working. I'd call that a licence to surf, since it's clearly not going to be operational for quite some time, til normal people start their working day!

Blasted shoulders today, but gym notebook is at work so can't update this. Food diary is also on work computer, so I'm basically fairly useless with keeping this up to date today!

All the talk about pump classes in the ladies room has me keen on doing a pump class tomorrow. I couldn't decide between pump or spin tomorrow, then when I got home tonight hubby said he wanted quesadillas for dinner tomorrow night - so I decided I'll do spin at lunch and pump after work and earn myself a carby reward!

Good idea! I think reducing is good for me - I have few enough braincells left without donking myself on the head with a barbell to finish the rest of them off

Well, it's rest day tomorrow so it works well, blasting myself today. Oh and hubby decided that he wants to make pizza for dinner tomorrow - so in my new carb-cycling approach to weight loss, I'm going to schedule in a high carb day tomorrow. That means I get to have lots of shakes with fruit and bananas - yum!

Spin done ? And now for ze pump....go EARN those quesadilla

I have to come clean and admit that I only did half a spin class today. Just a bit busy at work and needed to get back - so I tried to go as hard as I could for that half an hour. Lots of hills - Liz is pretty good.

I expect pump class will have about 5 people in it - Friday evening classes aren't exactly heaving - but the lunchtime pump class was completely packed today. Everyone getting it over with early I guess!
