Shoulders today, bane of my life, just find them SO hard.

DB press: 9kg 12/10/10/8

DB upright rows: 9kg 4x12

lat raises: 5.7kg 4x8

DB front raises 4xg 4x8

Gave the shoulders a bit of a rest for 18 mins while I peddled on a bike (quite pleased with my cycling -I've been doing the same level on manual for the last few weeks and each time I manage to go a wee bit further).

Then finished off on the shoulder press machine - 15kg 10x10

Food today:

1. Sultana bran with protein shake (bit naughty, but have some from before I started on oats. Had hoped hubby would finish it off, but apparently not. Can't stand to have food go to waste, so I'll have one bowl a week til it's finished!). I might have also had a chocolate koala when I got to work that a colleague brought back from aussie. It wasn't very nice so I didn't have the other one that was left!

2. Pink salmon (tinned) with chickpeas in a wrap

3. PS

4 Another salmon wrap - yum!

5. PS

6. Moroccan beef with spinach and probably another vege

7. PS with milk

OK, I'm going to be exceptionally brave and put up some pics. I've just been catching up on everyone's pics in the NZBB comp (missed seeing the second round as I was on holiday at the time) - and I figure if you're all brave enough to put yours up, then I should too. They are about a month old, taken when I got back from my holiday - so I'm sure I look way better now :? Well, I'm working on it

I tried to get some tricep pics too, but just couldn't see any triceps in any pics, no matter how hard I tried  Pretty much a ditto for seeing much quad muscle too, so need to do some solid work there.

Wow - looking good, CC.... great delts

Triceps can be hard to catch, goodness knows I tried in the nzbb comp entries :( Same for quads.... I reckon I'm going to go get some of those builders spotlights on poles from Mitre10, just to throw off some shadows.

It's either that, or take the pics in the bathroom. The lighting seems better in there....just like the acoustics when I sing!

Yeah, I can see my triceps sometimes, but they just didn't come out in pics grr! I can see your tris from my position in spin class - so don't worry, I can confirm you have them!!

Might try bathroom next time - our bathroom is teeny though (hmmm, might make the muscles look bigger - like that acoustic thing!)

Thanks TFB, Rose, Sakura and Vee for your nice comments :D

I could see myself that I was making progress, but this is the first time I've taken photos - I'll make sure I do it periodically so that I can see more objectively.

Not sure if I've mentioned this already, but I've got a photo that was taken last Christmas, and I was horrified and the flabbage around my arm area - it's part of what gave me the kick up the arse to stop fannying about in pump classes and do some proper weight training. I couldn't see a shoulder or a tricep/bicep - it all just melded into one big flabbular mass. So I'm going to bring the same top I was wearing to my sister's house this Christmas, get a photo in the same place, and angle, and hope like hell that there is some more definition in my arms! I'm sure I can see it, but I won't be happy til I see the 'one year later' photo in the same top!

Today's efforts - working on the Flabbular Mass

Skullcrushers 12.5kg 4x8

Tricep bench press 12.5kg 4x12

Tricep kickbacks 7kg 5x5

Tricep pulldowns 15kg 12/10/10/8

18 mins cycle to give my arms a bit of a rest

Then onto my 'Tara's Arms' workout - anyone watch True Blood? Tara's arms are fantastic, and you know she knows it, as she's never seen in anything but a singlet top! I read somewhere that she gets her arms by doing press ups: 30/20/10, so I decided I'd aim for that. Today I did 30/15/10 which I'm bloody pleased with. I've never done 30 before - most I ever did was 25 in one go many years ago (about 6-7 years ago). Don't ever really do more than 15 in one go due to boredom - but gotta do them if I want arms like Tara!!

Next week I'm chinging my order around a wee bit so as to fit in spin as well as a normal leg workout, but giving myself proper time for recovery. Saw a suggested order on Go Figure and that fits in well with the timetabling of my favourite spin instructor - so next week will be:

Mon - legs

Tue - chest/tri

Wed - back/bi

Thurs - lunchtime: abs and Tara's arms :pfft: then after work: spin

Fri - shoulders and possibly some extra glutes.

Nice workout

Close-grip press-ups will hammer the triceps quite nicely - even "short-lever" (on the knees) they're a good work-out, to say nothing of "long-lever" (on the toes). Wide-grip press-ups, I thought were more for pecs than arms.

30 of any press-ups in one go, to say nothing of 30/15/10, is a superb effort :notworthy:

Yeah that's true re pecs - I normally do some press ups (wide) as part of my chest workout. I decided to give them a go today because I hadn't done any other chest work and thought since those muscles were still fresh I'd be good to go with belting out a lot of them (which worked).

I guess the person who plays Tara probably does a ton of other stuff too to get those arms, and for whatever reason she just mentioned her 30/20/10 pressups in the interview. Ah well, it's a good thing to be able to aim to do!

Today's workout:

Smith squats 52.5kg 5x5

Smith lunges 32.5kg 5x5

(have completed 4 weeks of 4x12 of both of these, so upping weight gradually - first a small increment at 5x5, the 4x8, then will try increasing further depending on form)

Seated calf raises: 52kg 1x12, 52.5kg 1x10, 55kg 1x8, 57.5kg 1x12

Seated leg press (and calves): 124kg 1x12, 129kg 1x10, 133kg 1x8, 138kg 1x12

(Have also completed 4 weeks of 4x12 with these, so mixing it up a bit for a few weeks)

Deadlifts 32.5kg 5x5

Sumo squats 28kg 5x5

Lying leg curls 30kg 5x5

Leg extensions 35kg 10x10

Apparently by bodybuilding.com order has now been sent out - ordered it last Sunday, got email the next day to confirm some details since my billing address is different from my delivery address (work - chose the courier option so work is better to send to, since not often at home). Provided that info and they say cool, we've now shipped your order. Then 4 days later on Friday get another email saying they need to confirm my details (which I've already done!). Annoyingly I only got that email last night, as I'm not much of an email checker on weekends, further delaying things. Grr! So now apparently it has been shipped - a whole week later. So much for my extra US$2 to get 2-5 day delivery!!

So I'll now be giving Emzies-style updates til it arrives...
