Progress since last pics

Hey everyone,

I posted a bunch of pics last time when I basically knew nothing about posing. After deciding to try and bulk a little bit more, I've gotten a bit of posing practice undermy belt with Malu Manu'u, which will be ongoing as the competition comes. Its Auckland Champs (NZFBB) on June 20th. 3 Months until I mcompete for the first time.

I'm 17, but soon to be 18, and havebeen training since the middle of last year. I started thinking about competing around November last year.

At the moment I've only had time to get a picture of one pose, but more will come soon.

Specifically, I'd like to know if anybody can offer me advice on how I can work on symmetry. I think my left side has become dominantly shaped in most of my muscle groups (though not all.)

Thanks very much,

Please try and take this as constructive criticism.... you are holding that pose really really badly, it's hard to explain how to correct it (really need to do it in person) but you are rolling your shoulders over and hunching, thus making your shoulders look narrower and losing the V tapper, there is a little difference between left & right but don't get hung up over it most people have the same problem just get the posing right to make the most not of what you have

I think I understand what you mean. Pushing my shoulders forward to much trying to push the lats but its losing the shape. I'll practice and try another picture later. Thanks Andrew

EDIT: Heres a new pic after tinkering a bit. Hope it shows imporvement.

your hands are in a better position now

higher up on your hips before they were too low

you still could lift shoulders and raising your chest might help to do this

also lean back slightly as if the judges are seated behind and lower than you not too far back but just slightly

Wel now I'm confused. You guys are saying I've got it so wrong I should stop trying, but I get coached in posing by Gary Jones who was second in Mr. Universe and he's the one, along with Malu, whose showing em the poses?

Your right. I guess I'm just probably having deep, subconscious nightmares about going on stage unprepared :pfft: A month or so ago I had one that it turned out the competition was in 4 hours instead of 4 months

Thanks anyway

One of the tricks I was shown to hit a lat spread correctly is just to relax.

Right now, you're tensing, which locks you up and prevents you from spreading properly. Relax, get your coach to help you find the right position, then tense/flex once you're in position. :)

Tell Gary I said that no amount of posing practise will make him taller!!

Seriously tho, your problem is that you are still pulling through your shoulders and rounding over. You can only round over once you have learnt to flare the lats first. Dont panic, lat spread is the hardest pose to get right, you just keep moving your shoulders, chest and lats around until what you see looks good then understand how your body feels doing it so you can do it again...

G'Luck!!

  • 2 months later...

Thanks for all the help and comments, I havn't been posting at all recently. My New Philosophy has been: talk about training less, train more :pfft:

But I would like to take some more photos to get a persepctive on whether my attempts at bulking have been paying off, so hopefully soon.

And I'll keep working on that lat spread :D

Please try and take this as constructive criticism.... you are holding that pose really really badly, it's hard to explain how to correct it (really need to do it in person) but you are rolling your shoulders over and hunching, thus making your shoulders look narrower and losing the V tapper, there is a little difference between left & right but don't get hung up over it most people have the same problem just get the posing right to make the most not of what you have

i think maybe what hes doing wrong is that he has his shoulders pulled front and his arms are infront of his lats instead of next to his lats.

ive uploaded a photo so you can better understand what i mean in comparison to another lat spread. your also trying to tense your back appose to spreading it. -this photo was 4 months into my training so its quite old now.

its like as if every time i put up something everyone flames...wether its coming out of my mouth or someone you guys admire like a god what is the difference its clear what he was doing wrong so im stating it..im SORRY if this has offended you guys LMAO but you guys dont exactly seem to help too much other than talk trash.

i wrote in another thread a while ago that i use to work out when i was like 15-16 for about a 1.5 yrs but that meant nothing as i was stupid and done alot wrong so i dont count that for shit but when people say ive been working out for this long and its only like 2 years that aint shit...with all the mistakes they make and bad advice they get given and even off the bat a person who started working out without seeking professional advice or educating him/herself will not learn anything...because when i started up from scratch last year with no body whatsoever i knew what i needed to do to succeed and this 9 months has counted for at least 2 years on the average bodybuilder. i wouldnt speak too confidently if i had only been working out for 9 months if i didnt know anything...

f*ck man, why do you think your 9 months is better than everyone elses 2 years? there are a shitload of people, this site included, that make huge progress in any given time frame - yours is nothing special mate.

no disrespect to any person that makes progress in bettering themselves, but stop fuking posting like your some bbing oracle or something, unless your planning on getting your own infomercial or Tony Robbins style mentor business....

in my opinion
