Thanks Laura

Nice lifting bud....1000lbs GONE!!!

Cheers mate

Finally got the video sorted so might as well write up my report...

Got back from Aussie the night before. I didn't get a lot of sleep but I don't think it affected my performance. Going into the meet my goal was 1000lb, and I got it!

My results from last comp were 140kg(308lb)/80kg(176lb)/175kg(385lb) and my gym PBs before the comp were 165/97.5/200

Squat:

150kg/330lb - 2 whites, one red

160kg/352lb - 3 whites 20kg Comp PB)

170kg/374lb - failed, 3 reds

I took all my squats super deep (I didn't realise just how deep until I saw the video. It was only the second time I lifted in weightlifting shoes and I think I'll have to learn to squat a bit higher (lol) as it's just a waste of energy going that low. First attempt I was very lucky; the rep wasn't the best I'd ever done and when I stood up I lost my balance and took a step back. Luckily I had already received the rack call! Second attempt I lost my groove and good morning'ed the weight up a bit. Third the same thing happened but I couldn't muscle it up.

Bench

87.5kg/192.5lb - 3 whites

95kg/209lb - 3 whites (15kg Comp PB)

100kg/220lb - failed, 3 reds

For the first time with bench I felt really stable under the bar! 87 and 95 were pretty easy (though looks like I struggle a bit on 95 in the video). But when it came to 100 I didn't get the shunt I needed off the chest to beat my sticking point. Needed better leg drive.

Deadlift

180kg/396lb - 3 whites

202.5kg/445.5lb - 3 whites

210kg/462lb - 3 whites (35kg Comp PB and 10kg all time PB)

What can I say... Awesome day for deadlifting... Only downer was that the camerakid missed my last lift!

Total: 465kg/1023lb

Overall it was a really awesome comp. 37 lifters with a good mix of novices and veterans. Great atmosphere as always at Powerhouse Gym and I really enjoyed the day. And of course a huge thanks to OB for putting on the competition and helping out with my lifting.

Positives:

- Deadlifting was perfect

- I didn't fail any attempts for technical reasons

Things I need to work on:

- Learn to squat in oly shoes (not go so deep and )

- Make sure I'm more consistent with my legdrive on bench

- Get stronger!!!! (duh)

Here's the video:

Yep

Back to training today. My mind wants to get back into full training today, but I think my body needs to be fully recovered before I start Sheiko again. So this week I'm going to do a lot of sled dragging and accessory work. Then back into the swing of things next Tuesday.

GPP/Recovery/extras

Sled Dragging

Gym length is about 20m, weight doesn't include sled

65kg x 10 lengths

85kg x 8 lengths

105kg x 6 lengths

Very tiring

Upper Body Sled Dragging Medley

3 sets of 22.5kg x 4 lengths

Pulldown Abs

10 x 35kg

10 x 40kg

2 sets of 10 x 45kg

GHR

3 sets of 5

Chinups

20 reps in 4 sets - 6,5,5,4

Move up to 25 now. I think the improvement in my lat/bi strength has really helped my bench.

GPP/extras

Sled Dragging

3 sets of 60kg x 10 lengths

Front/Side/Rear Delt Super Combo

2 sets of 60 x 10lb (20 for each type of raise)

Shirted Bench Press

Trying out a sz 42 Titan Fury for sizing. Worked up to a couple singles @ 120kg off 1 board. OB says an F6 will probably suit me more so I'll most likely end up getting that.

Hopefully I'll be able to test out a squat suit soon and get my sizing sorted for that. Then BRING ON THE GEAR!!!

Back to the pullups,

I would have thought overhand semi-wide grip pullups would be more beneficial than close grip underhands.

Due to the fact the former is a lot closer to what you do when you bench.

Dude he is only doing 20 reps total. if he does pull-ups it wil prob only be 15

I don't know if I could do one wide grip pullup

2 sets of 3 x 70kg

5 sets of 3 x 75kg

Paused

Squat

2 sets of 5 x 95kg

5 sets of 5 x 112.5kg

Bench Press

5 x 50kg

5 x 60kg

4 sets of 4 x 70kg

DB Fly

5 sets of 10 x 20lb

Chinup

Squat Suit Test

Sz 42 Centurian - much looser than the 40

3 x 100kg - straps down with belt

3 x 120kg

2 x 140kg - Did one rep and it was pretty high, so got told to drop the second faster. 140kg is baby weight so noone was spotting me... I drop the second faster, got around parallel probably and then the suit decided to kick in big time, threw me backwards! There was no chance of recovery so I just went with it, saying "shit, shit, shit!". Not pretty.

2 x 140kg

2 x 160kg - straps up

The 160kg was getting closer to parallel. 165/170 may be a good opener in April. Had a chat to OB and we came up with a bit of a plan. I'm buying this out sz 42 suit and will use it in training. I'll also buy a new size 40. The plan it to use the old suit for my first two lifts in April to make sure I get a qualifying total for nationals. Then in my third attempt chuck my new suit on and go for broke. Then come nationals (around August) I should have built up enough strength to get a decent opener to depth and will be able to use it in all three attempts.
