Nationals 2009 Auckland

Squat

1st Attempt: 210kg 3 Whites, felt good.

2nd Attempt:222.5kg 2 Reds 1 White. Good setup just did not dip at the bottom a costly mistake.

3rd Attempt: 222.5kg 3 Whites. Same setup 3 steps, good depth good out of the hole.

Bench

1st Attempt: 140kgs 3 Reds. spotter's had to catch 4-5 inches off chest.

2nd Attempt: 140kgs 3 Reds same again spotter's had to catch.

3rd Attempt: 140kg 3 Whites. Reset arch, loaded chest to meet bar. Very surprised at the speed.

Deadlift

1st Attempt: 190 3 Whites, good and fast.

2nd Attempt: 205kg 3 Whites. Same again but a bit harder to work.

3rd Attempt: 215kg 3 Whites, a grind not much left in the tank hip was gone.

Comments:

The last 4 weeks have been a struggle to keep the hip right for the nats not being able to pull anything over 200kgs is not good. Just wanted to get through without too many dramas with the hip.

Wasn't the best day at the office 6 from 9, but 2 PBs, Squat, and Total.

Wanted 600+ 22.5kgs down on what I wanted round 12.5kgs on Squat and 15kgs on the bench. Deadlift was always going to be survival mode with the hip and it went on the second lift. loaded up with voltaren heaps of painkillers ice, lasted till the deads started. lowered my opener from 210kgs to 190kgs get on the board, total and survive.

Got to stop the habit of just making weight for comps, 101.4 at the beginning of the week, 20 odd litres of water and 99.8 on the day.

The Masters 50+ 100kg National Squat record 245kgs maybe next year.

I would like to Thank my Handlers PT, Maddog and FatBoy.

FatBoy and PT for all my warm up preparation, loading and helping me prepare for each lift. The encouragement after the first lift went west and more after the 2nd attempt on the bench went the same. Was needed and getting me in the right frame for my third lift to keep me from bombing. Their support and help was much appreciated.

Last but not least I would like to thank my wife Ruth for putting up with my constant training , giving me the time I needed to train, and her support and love which made my job so much easier.
