Last 3 weeks I haven't done much if any training. I need to do hypertrophy work, and will be back into that now.

2 weeks ago I did the Oceania Highland Games champs down in Christchurch.

I put together a pretty decent performance, but a couple of clinch throws didn't quite go my way. I wound up losing very narrowly to the Commonwealth Discus champ, who has also won the Aussie HG Champs. I have alot of work to do for World's next year. Broke a couple of field records, and was pretty happy to come 3rd in the stone put, only a meter behind the two Commonwealth medallists in the shot put.

Last weekend was the Auckland Highland Games strongman, which doubled as the NZ Masters Strongman champs.

I was pretty surprised to win all 4 events quite comfortably. Then I also won 2 of the public highland games events, but had to leave before the caber.

I hit a new PB on the stones, 5 stones 101-155kg, spaced 5 meters apart in 20.22seconds. I believe the fastest ever run in NZ was 22.5 before that. When the stones are staggered 5-4-3-2-1m away from the barrels the record is a blazingly fast 22.8s. NZSM has the stones staggered, right at the end of the show, so that would be extremely hard to break. Still, somewhat happy with where I am at this point in time.

Auckland Highland Games Results - 1st Jono Macfarlane,2nd Reuben Dejong,3rd Colm Woulfe,4th Afa Paea,5th and NZ Masters Champion Rudolph Sadaraka,6th Mark Mete,7th Tod Foster,8th Dan Lambert,9th Jason Woods,10th Alex Orwin,11th Mason Cartwright,12th Panapa Sadaraka,13th Chris Latham,14th Dean Sinclair,15th Shawn Wright,16th Zahid Kahn

Sunday 7/12

Got up at 3:50am to make Northlands Strongest man in Whangarei. Spent the early part of Saturday evening trying not to throw up from Nausea and an upset stomach, but got hold of some pregnancy morning sickness pills (lol) and pulled myself right. Didn't feel good all day, but once you show up, you lose the right to make excuses. Thankfully pulled out the win, not really due to a great performance on my part, but it was enough in the end.
I had come into the show with a goal to press, not jerk a 160kg log, but Colm and I decided to just go for jerks. With Colm outweighing me, 160 was enough for the win. Matt has brought in a 3 attempt only rule on the log, with 4th attempts only allowed for a record. I contemplated going 175 on a 4th, but decided not to as I haven't done heavy overheads for a few weeks.
