Big Kiwi Sick

Anyone else see that 3rd degree thing on Justin tonight?? or am i waaayy out of the loop. Shit, all that juice got to him. Hearts failing and some other shits going on that I didnt understand. Gone broke from being sick, closed the business etc.

Kinda sad seeing the big fella crying.

My old man works in the hospital/ public health sector and has seen more and more bodybuider type guys coming in with heart defects/failures etc caused by the use of steroids.

I'm no expert on the subject, but i just worry about the number of young guys i see and know who are getting on it.

Justin is only young in my eyes. Not even 40 years old. Waay to young to go.

I have nothing against using them, I beleive it should be legal and a personal choice. I just want the younger guys I see doing them today to get more indepth knowledge of what theyre doing to their bodies and how it will affect them later on before they take that step.

Met a 17 y/o not too long ago who was on it, he trained hard, ate good, and he looked farken insane, but hes only bloody 17! He could go along way naturally before taking the enhanced root.

Personal choice and all that though.

TV3 haven't put the clip up on their site yet, but here are my thoughts before I've seen it...

Justin Rys has been pretty sick for some time now. In fact, years ago when he was imprisoned for importing Fantasy, he was released early on the grounds that he was terminally ill.

Here's a 60 Minutes piece from a few years back:

And a TVNZ article from 2010 said his cardiologist expected him to be dead within a year - so by that measure, he's doing well to still be around at all. Whatever... it's sad, that's for sure.

As far as the dangers of steroid use, I don't think anyone could argue that steroid abuse wasn't to blame for Justin's ill health. But the quantities of gear that Justin was taking (and even the amount of food he was eating) would be well above what the average gym steroid user takes.

Having said that, even moderate doses has other risks associated with it (sterility, etc). And going by comments made by some of our more senior members, it does sound like the amount of gear that is considered a "normal" cycle is increasing. And that's got to be a concern.

The weekly amount and also the length of cycle seem to be increasing, plus the number of idiots on cruise-blast...

Poor dude, hope he recovers etc.

On another note,Im fucking sick to shit of NZ Herald and nz media in general picking on steroid users and making unsubstantiated and misinformed claims about bodybuilders. And obviously, the general public dosent know any better, so will instantly flock to whatever information is thrown to them and believe it's true, even if it is not. First there was that stupid peptide diary bullshit, and now this. OOOOH GHRP6 is a NEW drug used by people inconfident about their body image.... STOP CHEATING....

Like seriously, how many people get gyno / heart disease / prostate cancer that do not use steroids at all.

TBH I thought the TV3 clip wasn't too bad. Justin called it like he saw it & didn't want sympathy from anyone.

Anyone who knows Justin knows he takes everything to the extreme, in that sense I guess it's no surprise I see him as one of a few of NZ's only real deal pro bodybuilders with the crazy mass he had & the condition he was always in.

Anyhow worth a watch.

All the best Big Kiwi, here's hoping the neurologists can work out whats going on.

The report itself was pretty well documented, probably because it was an interview with him rather than a journalist investigation or whatever. Im talking about the media's attention in general towards steroids etc. People in this whole lifestyle don't want or need that kind of attention or notoriety from the general public. bigkiwi seems like a cool guy, but while we can all benefit from his interview, It is in the best interests of everybody if the media just turned a blind eye to this whole thing.

Why nothing ever comes of it....

I think its good heaps of retard YOLO's doing all kinds of crazy shit. I know a guy that would jab himself with whatever he could get his hands on was running 5 different compounds on his first cycle and didn't come off until he ran out of money.... Maybe people like this will think twice when they see this, even though it wasn't the only factor and possibly only a minor factor... How I see it rec drugs were definitely the main cause of this health issue and perhaps everything else amplified the effect... who knows I'm not a doctor.

All I know is that the wrestlers dropping dead now were massive abusers of pain killers and rec drugs seems to be a common occurace for the people that supposely die from steriod use/abuse.

Its amazing how quickly he seems to have taken a turn for the worse, but hes probably lived more than most people in this time already guy seemed to be a party animal!

Crack up how he's lost 25kg of muscle and still bigger than 99% of people on the planet. Host couldn't believe he could naturally be that size lol.

Yeah, that's another point. If you're 140kg, it doesn't matter whether that's fat or muscle - it's still 140kg of mass that your heart has to pump blood through. Steroids aside, that sheer mass is going to put a strain on the heart.

That's why they invented "cardio". Specifically for that reason. To make sure your heart is fit and strong enough.

OK, now I have seen the 3rd Degree story.

Wow. I guess I was expecting to see another piece like the 60 Minutes one a few years back. I certainly wasn't expecting to see him in this condition. That's awful. :(

He certainly raises a good point about the OTC supplements, too. Hearing about the side effects caused by OxyElite Pro was interesting (terrible for the girl who suffered them, but interesting). We had a warning and some discussions about OEP here last year. It's scary stuff...

Doh! Supplements Spiked with Hepatitis

OxyElite Pro - not even once

OxyElite Pro - not even once

Okay sorry, but that news article is just a big old load of steaming shite, please don't buy into the media misinformation.

The facts are that Hepatitis only effected an isolated group in Hawaii, and was (apparently) from the US only version of Oxyelite PRO FAT BURNER (Capsules and Powder) which is banned in NZ as it contains Yohimbe, and had nothing to do with the Oxy Elite PROtein powder.

Yet this self admitted steroid using competition winning female bodybuilding freind of Justin's, that wasn't on any sauce at the time, somehow mysteriously ends up being the only person outside of Hawaii to end up with hepatitis using a product that wasn't the cause of hepatitis? Well now, frankly that just seems a little bit odd to me.

http://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/ucm375740.htm

It also makes me super pissed that the two of them are blaming OTC supplements for their woes rather than just facing up to the actual facts. Either they're being completely misquoted by the journalist, which wouldn't suprise me, or the drugs have dissolved their frontal lobe and they're completely delusional.

-----------------

Justin's problems may not be just caused by illegal drugs, but also over-the-counter supplements – supplements Dr Mann is extremely concerned about.

"I deal mainly in orthodox pharmaceuticals. We at least have controlled information about what the positive and negative effects there can be of pharmaceuticals," he says.

"A lot of supplements are sold as foods and not subject to the same sorts of scientific rigour in testing, nor of quality control."

We already know some of these supplements are potentially dangerous. Last year, 3rd Degree tested three popular pre-workout pills and powders. All three were found to contain illegal substances including synthetic amphetamines. And 15 more are currently under Government investigation.

Victoria Faint, a friend of Justin, is a competition winning bodybuilder. She knows all too well these legal substances can be risky.

Last year, she took a substance that made her very sick. It started with headaches and clammy skin, then became a lot worse.

"My stomach started to blow up, I couldn't pee, all these things started happening.

"They tested for steroids, there was no steroids because I hadn't been using them then and they asked me what kind of supplements I'd been taking. I told them the protein powders and I went in there with abs and by day four I looked like I was eight months pregnant so they started freaking out as well. They said in one of the tests the liver was inflamed. They were putting it down to some kind of hepatitis virus."

The protein powder she was taking was called Oxy Elite Pro, which has caused all sorts of problems. Fifty people caught hepatitis after using it in the United States, two people needed liver transplants and one died.

Justin, who used to sell Oxy Elite Pro at his supplement shop, was forced into bankruptcy because of his illness. The shop is now closed.

"Supplements are important as long as you know what you're taking," he says.

"But if you have supplements and no idea what you're using, then that's stupid."

He says he had no idea what he was selling could make people sick.

"All I wanna do is make it safer," he says. "I don't want to see people hurt. I have my friend who got hepatitis from a supplement that I sold. That hurt the hell out of me – I hated it."

Props to Justin for trying to raise awareness for what has happened to him, his message and reason for doing the program was admirable.

But, the program was a load of crap misinformation. They didn't attempt to make any distinction between the side effects of steroids and those of recreational drugs like fantasy or even good old alcohol. Justin's neurological issues are unlikely to have any large contribution from steroid use, and his heart problems are unlikely to be due to steroid use alone. And in my opinion, talking about justin's story and bringing supplements into it is ridiculous, they could have easily spent the airtime on more information about the drugs which actually will have contributed to his illness.

The only good message, (Pete Dolan wrote something to this effect on facebook), is for people to research and learn about what they are putting into thier body. But you'd have to be a fucking genious to drag that out of such a misinformative, fearmongering piece.

Just another one to make the public scared of gyms, weights and protein powder *dash1*

Really sad whats happened to Justin, but more than likely he has done it to himself with the amount of stuff he was shoving into his body (rec drugs) I just hope something can be done to help him.

I hate it when the media open there fat mouth when they no bugger all about supplements or bodybuilding. They should to some reasherch before opening there mouth.

I also think they should do some reasreach before opening there mouth and just jumping on the band wagon.
