Yesterday was meant to be a 285kg double. Couldn't even get the first rep out of the hole. Epic fail there lol.

just got back from the physio now, got some bruising up where the pec connects into the shoulder and he had a prod around there and fucking sore again. Going for an ultrasound next week and then decide what I'm going to do. Which will probably be repeat the last 4 months again.

i did everything I could with the physio and rehab since September and I can't be arsed doing it all again. My arm pain isn't getting any better either. In fact it's getting worse and I'm not going down the surgery track, mostly because I just can't be bothered and powerlifting really isn't that important to me that I would want to be off work and not be able to do a whole lot for all that time and then go through another rehab of the Radial nerve.

so made my decision not to compete this year. I'm sick of wrecking my body. Still going to keep training cause I enjoy it but just gonna leave my journal here for now and focus on a few other things that training seems to always be put ahead of. If I was getting $100k a year to powerlift I might have a different attitude towards it all but it's just a hobby and it's becoming more of a pain in the arse than fun lately.

I'm in a similar boat as you had injury after injury. Constant back pain in mornings, shoulder pain and other reoccurring injuries despite all the mobility and stretching.

Pain hinders lifestyle to much for me and the past 5 weeks i've taken off body is starting to feel great. Quality of life is going to always be more important. I guess your got a mortgage and a wedding to pay for too lad so probably best to get those extra hours in ha!

Maybe reassess things in a year or two.

Yeah just had a bad couple of days, stressed out bout some shit e.g houses I'm looking at buying with methamphetamine contamination which is fucking me right off. The 5%er within me wouldn't let me finish just yet.

What was the ppm on the methamphetamine test? If low only from smoking. We brought one that tested positive for smoking LOL got a few thousand for sale price.

If lab concentrations then your got an issue. We re-built entire house on the inside.

Most houses will test positive for methamphetamine unfortunately

Smoking house yeah not a lab house. I think most, is an exaggeration but there are a lot especially in certain price ranges more so than others. Unfortunately it's becoming a commonly used drug. And I don't care about buying it for resale, well I do but I'm going to be living in it for a while. My partner and I will be having a baby  at some stage and I don't want a baby being brought up in a contaminated house. If I was buying it as a rental with someone tenanting it to resell in a year or so then yeah sure I wouldn't give a f*ck (sad but true). Done a lot of research into it and levels can rise back over time. It's only low at the time of test. Iv got the test results somewhere, can't recall numbers off top of head. Cheers.

Do you swap alternate grips over on deadlifts? (1 set left hand normal, 2nd set right).  Had a trainer at gym mention to me can cause imbalance. No idea if just his idea.
Makes sense in a way as wrist/shoulder etc turned out

Speed deadlifts were certainly quick nice job

No I don't do that. I hold it one way all the time. It's like picking up a cricket bat left or right. Or riding a skateboard natural or goofy. Just whatever feels best or you think feels best is the way you hold it. Most of my sets I do with double overhand straps anyway, anything over 3 reps I'll use overhand grip with straps. So that counteracts any imbalances that might happen. I also want to keep my alternative grip specific to what I do in competition, so in comp i hold right under/left over. So I never grip the bar right over/left under. No point for me to do that.

if you're concerned about imbalances then best way to fix that is double overhand with straps. you're still gripping the bar with straps, well the ones I use I am. So I'm still having to grip the bar it's not a double loop strap or a steel hook strap that does all the work. People think if you use straps you don't work your forearms and grip. Load of crap. My grip never fails me for someone who uses straps majority of time. Funny that.

Not been logging sorry, things been a little inconsistent latley. So today I drive over to Rotorua for the NZPF BOP regional comp to get some motivation for my comp next weekend. Just what I needed. Good to catch up with few people I have become friends with and see them lift. I finally met Oldbull too which was good.

decided on my openers for next weekend. Squat is going to be the biggest unknown the biggest squat I have hit this training cycle is 280 which I did last Friday. So I'm going to open that on 275 which on paper is a little high but I got confidence they will move better in comp. don't ask me why, cause I don't have an answer apart from I just think it will.

bench I tested yesterday and went up to a comfortable 170. I'm confident I can go 190-200kg possibly but it'll just depend on my arms and my pec. I'm going to open on 170.

Deadlift will be 305. I think I can PB this lift. Probably be the only lift I will PB at this comp. if my squat and bench aren't too far off my PBs for those I could potentially PB total too which would be cool.

not up to much this coming week. Monday have some light speed squats then a machine circuit on Wednesday then comp Saturday. Just going u110 class. See what happens, could perform really well. stranger things have happened. One thing is though, if I perform poorly I won't be disappointed. I have already had all my dissapointment this prep and I just want to get this comp done and then be all in for July. No excuses though, I'm there to compete so do my best i will.

U100 bro. So I got through 10L of water yesterday, finished my last glass at around 9pm. Yesterday wasn't pleasant, I was constantly pissing and my bladder was pretty sore when I was driving and needed to piss. Anyway got through it. Basically aimed to drink 1L an hour from 7am. Then probably had 1 litre to finish off at 8pm which I did. I cut out carbs from yday as I was told. Chicken, salmon, greens and nuts are my diet. Had a few carbs today just to keep cals up and I need energy man feeling like shit I was and imo too soon to feel like that on tues morning when weigh in Friday.

5L of water today Iv had 3 so got 2 more to drink.

im confident this will go well.

Yeah thats heaps of water if youre not swrating it all out. What's the reason for drinking all the water..like is it to try lower concentration of electrolytes/salt in body so that when you cut water water comes out of your body/cells more readily via osmosis? Or something else?

Yeah that's right Hugh. I talk about that later I just gonna run log day by day bro. Basically preparing the body to sweat as much water out in the least possible time without having to dehydrate my body past the point of recovery. I won't be enduring anything difficult until the morning Of the weigh in. So Friday morning I'll get up and got 0-100. Or in this case u110-u100 :)

Hopefully doing something to make sure you don't screw up your electrolyte balances etc etc so even if you rehydrate you may get cramps and all that shit plus general lethargy or bloat is sodium too high without enough calc mag and potassium to make it all work in synergy. I'm sure you're aware of all this but just saying.

I got 4L of this stuff. But don't think I'll use it. yeah I got my rehydration and nutrition planned will be just heaps of food - good food. Lots of carbs not much need for protein but will have small amounts of fats and protein. Then lots of water and a bit of powerade type stuff. Burgers and shit is no good, processed food is not easily digestible and your body is just crying out for nutrients after it been starved of them... then when people go to McDonald's for breakfast, nandos for lunch and subway for dinner it's not good for your body and none of that is good food being absorbed.

Also a Luke warm bath with Epsom salts (the right amount) is probably the best way after IV to rehydrate your body through osmosis hydration, rub self with isoalcohol to open up them pours same thing do when have the bath hot for sweating and soak it all up. Then you have during the night before the comp and the morning of the comp, so I'll be waking up and drinking a good amount and then waking up early in the morning and getting straight into the hydration again. It's easy to slip back into dehydration when you go to sleep and wake up you want to get straight on it.

so yeah it's well thought out, Jono and I actually wanted to go for the u100 class for worlds but I wasn't confident in going ahead with it and performing well. So when I decided on what looked like a random thought to cut weight on Sunday night for this Comp it wasn't and has been thought out well. So doubt I'll need the plamalyte bags I'm only looking to drop about 7kg now so reckon it'll be like 4 or 5 come Friday morning. Not like I'm dropping 15kg.

Anyway getting way ahead of myself here, still gotta make the weight which is the most important thing. Having 5L today hasn't been so bad, I usually drink about 4L a day anyway so I only have a little bit to go which I'm bout to finish now.
