I got to Auckland early, thankfully there was no traffic which is really weird. School holidays must have started a day earlier or something up here. Arrived in west Auckland just before 9am so was able to use the sauna. Which was soooo hard trying to get that last bit of water out. I hate saunas, partly because I never use them so not used to them and secondly they give me a fucking headache. So did little blasts in the sauna and breaks in between in scoulding hot shower. Then at 9.45 I left and went to miada for weigh in. Weighed in at 100.3 or 100.4 I can't remember which it was. Which I thought was unachieveable given this morning ten min in a bath was only yielding me a 300g loss per bath. But I'd come this far so had to try. I put my layers of clothes back on and ran on the treadmill for 10 mins - like sprinted then I weighed back in within the time frame allocated for weigh in and was 100.0, I changed my feet positioning slightly and boom 99.9 was holding for a good 10seconds.

99.9kg

Let us know what you weigh before you lift tomorrow or whatever if you weigh yourself. Im pretty interested in seeing how much of the lost weight you can add again before the comp

Yeah bro I will weigh in the morning.  I don't have Scales available till then.

Anyway I didn't want to mention this person till after I finished my cut which is now. So I just want to say a big thank you to my good friend Gareth Ealey. Gareth's background is Judo and he is a former NZ MMA champion, professional MMA fighter and is now kicking ass in BJJ. He has qualifications to back up his methods and is planning to do a post grad on the effects weight cutting has on performance. He's a smart guy. I started talking to Gareth at the start of last year about cutting weight for 24 and 48 hour weigh ins and how to do it. Jono had told me if I wanted to be competitive internationally then u110 class was currently and would be for some time out of reach. U100 would bring more success. at first I hated that idea, I couldn't understand the point of a 24 hour weigh in..... And I still can't. You cut weight, weigh in, then lift on the day at a completely different bodyweight to what you weighed in at. Sometimes skipping a whole weight class. I think it's one of the dumbest and most pointless things we do in sport. I met a guy today who used to do boxing, told me they had 48 hour weigh ins. Why? However it is the rules and if we don't take advantage of it we only put ourselves at a disadvantage. Anyway getting back to Gareth, I asked him so many questions and questioned his answers over the space of 12 months he probably got sick of me but this last week I finally put all that into practise and we did it. So thank you mate. Gareth's brother Bryn used to be an active member of the forum and will be lifting tommorow at the comp.

its easy to get caught up in what seems like an achievement making weight. But the biggest focus has to be the comp, if you make weight and perform like shit it was all a waste of time. So that's the biggest focus and has been the whole time. I wanted to log this cut for myself and others who are interested. I hope what I learnt from a knowledgable person will be of use to some of you at some stage.

Cant wait to lift tommorow!

Good job bro and so much time to rehydrate and fill out. Perfect protocol getting it from a fighter. They have to be at peak performance after dropping water also. Gonna be good.

My thoughts exactly re fighter. Thanks for your support

So today overall was a good day.

firstly I want to talk about the weight cut... It was my first time cutting weight and was my first time competing where I was lacking a little confidence because my training cycle hadn't gone as well as I would have liked. So I weighed in at 830am when I arrived at the comp at 107.4kg. At 730pm when I got back home to Tauranga I weighed myself at 108.1kg. (For those interested). I felt my cut was successful - I made weight, it wasn't too aggressive, I gained most of my weight back, I performed as well as I could have. pleased to be able to say that was a success.

squat...

i originally put opener down at 275, I was quite nervous so I dropped it down to 267.5. Then was 280 and lastly 290. I was very happy with 290 even though it's 15kg off my PB. This is because I failed 285 twice at seperate times during my training for this comp. and when I say fail I mean stuck right in the hole. So was really good to get 290, the happiness was personal.

bench I opened 170 then went 185 and forfeited my 3rd for no other reason than it was pointless. I'm happy with where my Pec is at it feels good. Hamish had already won by this point as well.

deads I went 305,325 and 330 which I missed but didn't even try properly. 325 is a 2.5kg PB. I never went over 300jg this cycle so that was awesome. And proves my cut stood the test of time as I didn't fade during the day.

800kg @ 99.9

You did awesome man and have one of the best squats form wise of anyone. You make it look so smooth.  Agree with what you say on the 24 hour weigh ins to but it is what it is so silly not to take advantage of that. Was an awesome day

Thanks bro got some work to do before July but this is a positive step forward.

Dunno how you can spend so long sorting grip out!

I have to fill my lungs, grab, brace and go! If I'm bent down too long I breath out and can't reinflate chest. (mind you, if I were pulling those numbers, I'd want to know my grip was good too!)

always double check, then double check again hahaha. Not sure why I do that, we lifters have some funny rituals it seems

Insane total for 100kg lifter. You guys have the 24 hour weigh in right? How much would you think (roughly) I could/should put on in the 2 hour IPF limit?

Probably only 2-3kg. I think Brett has done that.

From my understanding it's just not really worth doing a full dehydrate if you are to compete right away, would be a huge trade off in performance. Would you want to start a competition with a headache and risk cramps etc?

Oh , i'm on weight now but I trained best at 107-108 so I'd like to put on as much as I can and retain the water.  2kgs sounds about right to me.

Cheers guys. Yeah 24 hour weigh in. If it was a 2 hour I wouldn't do a cut. Probably cut my wright down before I started the training cycle.

18/4

squats

180x3x5

gc squats

180x3x5

leg press

3x20

been thinking and talking to a few people who I respect and help me with my training and we have decided to bulk to 115-116 and cut from there to u110 for nationals. When I'm 116 it'll mean I'm maxing out the 110s and be strong as hell. Brought my squat stance out a little wider to what it was before worlds last year so practised that today. Can't wait till July!
