Damn, got a deep tissue massage this arvo then went to gym straight after to do some benching. Got 140 for 2 paused then loaded 150. I could only get it an inch off the chest fml.

Did some pushups, hanging leg raises then stretched a bit and left. Muscles too sore from massage to do anything else

Last night I had a bottle of Primo, a Peanut Slab and a muffin on my last break at work as a cheat then an hour later, I was feeling nauseous and my stomach was hurting. I ended up throwing up a few times and sat on the toilet until 1am when I started to finally feel better. So unfortunately missed last night's workout. 86.4kg this morning, lost over a kg from the diarrhea lol

Gotta watch out for that there gluten free muffin time

Rest day Tuesday, did back and biceps yesterday. Today I did some squats 60kg x8 100kg x5 140kg x3 180kg x2 220kg x1(2m knee wraps) 240kg x1 (2m knee wraps) Pretty easy singles. My back has been niggly ever since GPC Nats so I just went easy today. Last squat session before Sydney. I'm lifting on Friday next week the 21st so 8 days out. Probably do a light bench session up to 120kg x1 on Saturday then maybe an easy back and bicep session on Monday. Thinking of squat attempts 260/275/280 bench 145/152.5/155 and deadlift 250/260/265. If I get 9 out of 9 it will be 700 total which would be bloody awesome.

Looking great, Tom. I know your focus is powerlifting right now, but you've made good progress in your symmetry and proportions too.

When do you fly across?

I fly out on Wednesday morning to Sydney. Super excited, weigh-in on Thursday morning then lift on Friday.

Cheers Tom and FOTR

Depends how tight you wrap and the thickness of the wraps themselves. Since I use thick stiff wraps meant for competition and crank them up tight as, I get about 25kg out of 2m knee wraps and 30kg+ out of 2.5m knee wraps.

If I didn't compete I wouldn't use knee wraps in the gym at all as I agree with the logic that it increases friction on the patella, increasing the amount of wear and tear.

Weighed in this morning at 82.4kg, managed to just scrape into the 82.5kg class. Had to use the sauna last night and this morning as I was 87.1kg yesterday morning before flying out.

Had a litre of sport drink after stepping off the scale and then some McDs. Can't believe they don't do kiwi big breakfasts here. Absolute shocker. Went to a Direct Factory Outlet and bought some undies cos I forgot to bring spares lol. Algood they had holes in them anyway. Been eating and drinking allday which is quite hard especially after a day of nothing cos stomach shrinks so you get full real quick. Still gotta make sure I gain back all the weight so I don't lose any strength.

Yesterday was a bit cloudy so not that hot but today is a scorcher. Been sweating my ass off all day, think I've had 4 liters of fluid so far and need to consume a lot more as I'm sweating most of it straight out. Already dehydrated enough as it is.

Lifting starts tomorrow at 9am. Got me some eggs and instant oats to have for brekkie. Body feeling good, no niggles etc so think I should be able to smash some PBs tomorrow no problem

5pm here btw

Ok guys, first I'd like to say thanks for all the support. I'll do a short summary of GPA worlds.

I arrived at the venue on Friday and the place was just massive. I went out the back and they had 4 monolifts each with a 25kg Texas Squat bar, 4 comp benches and 4 deadlift platforms with Texas Deadlift bars. Calibrated Challenge plates as well to warm up on.

Anyway, there were two platforms going and 4 flights on each platform with 14ish in each flight so it was a bit of madness to get a turn to warm up even with 4 monos. I was in the same flight as Luke Shakespeare who I follow on Instagram as he's a 90kg junior lifter. He ended up getting 285, 167.5 and 292.5. He was really friendly and helped me out when I was confused with a few things as he's involved with Capo Aus and was in the loop.

Warmups I did 75kg for 3, 125kg for 3, 175kg for 2 then put the wraps on and did a single at 215kg. Last warmup was a single on 235kg. There was a guy called Jose Salgado who's a Junior 75kg lifter and holds the GPA junior squat world record with 292.5 but his last warmup was 255 which he barely got. And his opener was supposed to be 280. I thought this guy must be dreaming and sure enough he bombed on 280kg. Anyway my opener was 260kg which I got without any trouble. Second atrempt I went for 275kg which was 2.5kg over my PB. A bit of a grind coming out of the hole but no worries. Third attempt was 280kg. I'd already missed this weight twice and was determined to get it this time. Had a nice controlled descent and I powered up. I just managed to get past the sticking point and I was elated once I locked out my knees. After racking I turned around to look at the lights and there were 3 reds staring at me. Such disappointment. I looked at the vid and it was a fair call. First time in 15 comps including 4 IPF comps that I got a squat failed on depth.

Bench I opened on 145kg, easy. Second attempt I had planned for 152.5 but I decided to go for 155. A bit of a grinder thru the sticking point but never in doubt. Third attempt went for 157.5 which got stuck at sticking point about 4 inches off chest. Still banked a 2.5kg bench PB and by now I was 5kg up on my previous best subtotal.

Deadlifts I opened on 250kg which was a bit harder than I expected. It was about 6.30pm by the time we got to deadlift and we had been there since 9am so it had been a long day already. I also thought that I would get some kgs out of the deadlift bar but it was the same for me. After I got my first attempt I got out my attempt card and wrote down 260 for second attempt. Then I crossed it out andwwrote 265. Stupid decision as I ended up missing the 265 at lockout due to left grip. I was so gutted and this left a bit of a cloud over my comp as if I had just gone for 260kg equal PB I would have gotten a 5kg total PB. In any case, I totalled 680kg which was 5kg less than my last comp.

I got first place in my 82.5kg junior class. Second place totalled 570kg. I think I placed in the top 5 out of 35 junior lifters on points although I'm not sure as official results haven't been posted yet.

Watched all the great lifting on Saturday and Sunday, got some pics with the legends and went to town on Saturday night and had an awesome time with the NZ boys.

Just been chilling in Sydney with my brother and seeing the sights. Went down to Camperdown fitness yesterday and it was fucking insanely awesome. Best gym ever. Back to NZ on Monday.

Plan now is to cut for RNV once I get back. Currently weighing about 88kg so I'd like to get down to 84kg in the 4 weeks of cutting for RNV, roughly a kg per week. After that, I'll just get back on the bulk and focus on growing my arms. I'm only gonna do legs once a fortnight until my arms catch up. Probably won't do a powerlifting comp next year as I want to focus on growing and putting on size. Hoping to reach 95kg by the end of next year at the same bodyfat as I am now which would be solid 7kg gain. Then I'll compete in the 90kg class in 2016 in my last year as a Junior and set the CAPO/GPC NZ records at a level that will stand for a long time and hopefully break some world records. Currently GPA Junior 90kg world record is squat 315, bench 215, deadlift 305 so it's doable I think, especially the squat.
