So I'm 83.4kgs this morning and I need to be under 82.5kg by 8:30am tomorrow when I weigh in for the CAPO ANZAC bench press comp. So I had 6 eggs for breakfast and will have about 2000 calories all from protein and fats, no carbs today because I need to lose that water weight.

Yep I've been drinking lots of water all day. I cut the water about 15 hours out so no more water from the time of posting this. Also I had almost no carbs today. Usually I have about 300g of carbs a day and 3000 calories. Today I only had 3 meals: 6 eggs with BBQ sauce, 250g chicken thigh meat with broccoli and beans then 250g scotch fillet with broccoli/green beans. Also had a 90g can of tuna, cup of coffee and can of Pepsi max. Adds up to about 1600 cals

I just weighed in at 84.0kgs pre-bedtime and last night I weighed in at 85.2 pre-bedtime. I lose about 1.5kg overnight so it should be perfect tomorrow morning. Waking up at 5am to drive up to Auckland and I won't eat or drink anything until I weigh in at 8.30am.

My attempts will be 170, 175, 180. Fingers crossed

I vote you start lighter (not that I would know much) but I dont think you have 100% accurarecy on 170...

160, 170, 180 wud be better?

Nice weight loss

why do this? and what do you mean about accuracy?

160, 170, 180 was what i did at comp earlier this year and 160 was a waste. had already chosen it and when i warmed up i did 160x3 (easily) before my first lift so was total waste of an attempt.

160 170 180 is too big of jumps on the bench imo. Like Azide said you're just wssting your first attempt. And plus in a tight shirt, the difference between what I can bring down to my chest and what I can press out is too small. I can't touch anything less than 170 and will be lucky to lockout 180.

Anyway I just weighed in at 81.9kg so I've made the under 82.5 class. Lifting starts at 10.30am. Feeling pretty good

I bombed on 170. First attempt came off the chest funny and couldn't push through. Second attempt was better but stalled/dipped halfway up and butt came off the bench. I locked it out but 3 red lights. 3rd attempt was shit couldn't get it up after the initial push.

Ange Galati got 215 raw at 79kgs, Elnez got 255 raw and Shaun Howlett got 230.5 raw. Crazy lifts.

Wayne Howlett is warming up for squats now on 350kgs lol

bro... hate to say I told you so.

but I told you to open with 160, that way you would at least have something on the board.

Bad luck though, just need some more practice in your shirt it guess?

lol!

i think 160 would be more of a dissapointment than anything

Let me make this very clear; at 84kgs bodyweight I CANNOT touch with anything less than 170kgs with a single ply Rage X size 44 bench shirt on. And I wasn't strong/skilled enough to be able to press 170kg back out.

But, I lost nearly 2kgs overnight, which resulted in the shirt being a little bit looser than what I was used to. And I'm guessing I lost a bit of strength as well. So I was able to touch 170kg easier than normal but the tradeoff was I didn't have as much lockout power. In hindsight, at 82kg bodyweight, I could've possibly touched 165kgs. I don't think that I could've touched 160kg at all. Do you understand what I am saying?

Please don't give me advice on equipped lifting if you have never tried it. I've done 12 powerlifting comps and I know about attempt selection, especially openers. Equipped lifting is a lot trickier than raw lifting.

Anything about preparation?5-6 weeks out would you change training routine or nutrition. Been tracking your log , thought you would've pissed in with 180kg.

As I said in the post before, I lost nearly 2kgs overnight to make weight and I'm guessing that took a bit out of me. And even in training, I've never actually been able to perform an attempt that would pass in competition over 170kgs.

This is why gym lifts don't mean shit lol. Gotta be able to do it on the platform.

Anyway, I'm happy with my experience yesterday. I didn't have big expectations as the shirt was tough to learn and I would've been satisfied with simply 170kgs but that didn't happen. I've had fun training in the bench shirt. But from now, it's back to RAW training for CAPO Nationals in August then GPA Worlds in November.

You have 3 attempts. I saw you said doing something you know you can get the lift it is a waste of an attempt. Not really. I can bench 160 multiple times but I would open on something similar at a competition. Get something on the board, mentally it does you good. There is notning worse than bombing your first lift. There are no such thing as too big of a jump, that's what warm up is for to warm u up to that weight. My 1st attempt would always be something I can comfortably do. You still have 2 more attempts, there is no rush. Each to their own, everyone had different strategies. I know for tom he cannot go too light as he won't be able to hit depth due to the suit so this doesn't really apply to him because he has only a small weight range from being able to hit depth to not being able to lock it out. But generally speaking and to your statement why lift weights so close to each other? If your max is 200 then why do 190, 195, 200... Then u are lifting 190 3 times why would you want to do that? . Your two first attempts are setting you up for your 3rd attempt.  You should know what you can do, competition day is not for finding out that is what you do in the 8 weeks or so before.

yeah well i know f*ck all about powerlifting and was unsure what lift to open on. that was my first and only comp and was happy with my 180. just felt like 160 was a waste of time to me as like i said i did several reps of it when warming up. but in saying that i dont know what 3 weights i should have chosen (did 160, 170, 180).

what would you yourself choose if you knew your 1rm at the time was somewhere between 175 and 185?

Probably like 150, then 170 then. I would have done those in training. On the day I would know how those two lifts felt and decide on my last attempt which would hopefully be a pb if everything was going as planned.

like I said bro everyone has a diff approach.
