Working out 3 times a day at least

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just got myself a 1 year membership to the gym and im a beginner.

Im 5'10

80kg

30 years

Im on the sickness benefit which ill probebly be on for another year so i have alot of time to kill.

Is working out breakfast, lunch and dinner a bad thing?

My goal is to become 80 kgs of ripped muscle.

All through my teens i did martial arts and played rugby which i gave up at 20 for weed pretty much.

Surprisingly im not in terrible shape. I think i have an ok base to work with.

Now that i have given up the smokes and alcohol i have been reading alot on nutrition, here and other similar forums and as i have nothing else to do i thought i may as well get as fit and healthy as i can.

Is hitting the gym many times a day still going to work for me?

I have no other commitments at all.

Plan your day with cardio first session, weights second and more cardio third

rest in between, eat well

Set a goal, keep tabs on diet, record your sessions and see how you go.

Can always drop off one cardio session

Use the info above

practice does not make perfect

perfect practice makes perfect

you could go once or twice a day , 4~5x a week, going in 3x a day won't get you where you want to be but you are on the right track. it sounds like what you really need is something to focus your self on for the rest of the day while you are not working out. more time in the gym is counter productive for bodybuilders in the long run so you can keep yourself busy by focusing on the plethora of other aspects of bodybuilding such as diet, nutrition, different exercises. can also subscribe to the many great youtube channels.

yes you must work hard but you must also work smart!

i suggest you fixate yourself with a nice goal (like your dream/perfect body) and when you do go in to the gym, make the time you spend there really count. if it's 1 session a day, work that days muscle group to the max so you have no regrets about whether you worked hard enough or not by the time you get home. if you go in 2x a day, best thing for a beginner looking to get 'ripped' is simply to keep one session for weight training and the other for cardio.

you already started by giving up drugs & alcohol already so that's really good!

things you really need to know:

* how to work out properly - speak to one of the trainers in the gym when you're there and have them introduce you to the main compound movements (bench press, squat, barbell rows, dead lifts, military press). at this time they should be able to see your flexibility levels and suggest assistance work to help with that. also there's tonnes of vids on YouTube which can help you get started.

* how to eat properly - can learn some nutrition basics online (content.php?id=162). it's a long journey, feel free to keep asking questions about that in the diet section. also know that food is the biggest factor which will make the difference between you looking fat after a year or looking muscular

* how to rest properly - all the important work with getting ripped & muscular is done while you are sleeping so get quality sleep

* how to work out smart - if you are keen on going in very regularly then keep your sessions restricted towards training just one muscle group. example : day 1 : legs day, day 2 : chest, day 3 : back, day 4 : shoulders.

Im on the sickness benefit because of depression due to huge amounts of drugs and alcohol.

If i dont push it to the limit every time i go so im sore for days, would going multi times a day be good for fat burning?

Which drugs, if you don't mind me asking...?

If you train 3x a day with weights, you will hit a new level of depression in a very short time. Your sleep will suffer (not improve), your diet will suffer (not improve) and you will look and feel like sh!t.

The internet is a wealth of information, and no beginner would benefit from that sort of thing. Look for beginner workouts, and you will see they are like 3 or 4 times a week.

Maybe whole body.

But definitely not too often.

If you are prone to bouts of excitement and focus, followed by depression, DO NOT train like you have intended. When you fail to achieve your goals you will fall back into the dark.

Exercise gives great boosts to endorphins and self efficacy, but failing to plan it out is dooming you to fail.

Plan to take time to achieve your goals. Even on anabolics people don't wake up buff. Everything takes time, effort and planning.

Eat well, train effectively, and sleep when you should. Stay safe.

There's some great advice in this topic. Nice one guys.

The only thing I'd add is this:

Don't let yourself think that "if you can just achieve your dream physique, everything will be perfect and you'll be happy". It won't be, and you won't be. There are plenty of unhappy people with great bodies. Sorry! :D

That's not to say that you shouldn't set your goal high. But make sure you enjoy the process of training as well as the end result.

I have to say something here and its important so i hope you listen.

Your fat cells hold on to the crap you put into your body if you detox to fast lose weight you can give you very bad anxiety and you dont want that, take it slow. Dont starve yourself and maybe go three times aweek again TAKE IT SLOW. Good luck. Ps not trying to scare you. Like i said take it slow.

Awesome! Thanks for that Fellowship.

Hi Daz69,

Mostly..

Weed.

Benzodiazepines.

Alcohol.

LSD.

But.. anything and everything.

Dude, I spent over a decade on LSD, mushrooms, speed, pot and pills in the underworld. I am now in the best condition of my life, and I turned it all around your age. I was ready to knock myself off. I never got professional help.

I have been through some pretty nasty experiences, and now I look back and laugh that I survived. My gym sessions are my addiction now.

I have since got another mate into the gym, and he has stopped drinking and taking drugs. He is also starting to feel the benefits.

Hope your journey ends up the same.

Hi Daz69,

There's a lot being mentioned recently regarding depression from long term drug abuse on another forum I use..

Prolonged drug use results in adaptation of receptors to their use, receptors may increase/decrease in number or sensitivity.. You may know it as up or down regulation...

There is very little you can do to combat depression without the combination of more drugs which can create other problems.. regards trying to force up or down regulation of receptors this is not advised...

Basically there is no quick-fix...

You body needs time away from drugs to reset receptors, and receptor sensitivity, As far as I know a simple balanced diet, antioxidant/vitamin supplementation, and excercise are enough to effect recovery in most cases..

For Doperminergic releasing drugs like Cocaine, MDPV, Amphetamines, supplementation of foods rich in L-Tyrosine may help depression, but with these particular drugs it takes much longer because of re-uptake inhibition by Tyrosine hydroxylase..

For Serotonergic acting drugs like MDMA, MDA, try L-Tryptophan rich foods, taking 5-HTP the direct precursor to Serotonin is not advised as this can cause receptor de sensitivity issues, with prolonged use...

Regards Benzo's and its action on GABBA-A, I don't think there is anything specific apart from the drug option to address the immediate depression issue..

As Severe says things will get back to normal, it just takes time.. and a bit of will power

Good luck..

.

+1 to the above, probably feel pretty rough for a while, but will definately get better over time, after a while sober you should start to feel good as, at least i did..

just eat good, exercise, get enough sleep, all you can do really. from what I hear further medicating can complicate things
