abs important to focus on ?

Recommended Posts

I think they're worth giving some focus to - while they do get worked in the big lifts, it takes a lot of effort to focus on using your core while working quads or hams or whatever.

Plus, once your big muscle groups get developed, core strength will become a weakness that will limit your progress.

If they're boring, you ain't doing them right. Grinding out swiss ball crunches with added weight, and good form, takes concentration, just like anything else.

If your goal is to just have a visible 6 pack I wouldnt worry about training them, spend all your training time doing the more important stuff that would help you increase your overall muscle mass, if you've been in the game for a while and got a decent amount of muscle and not happy with your abs or want to make them stand out even more then I would start training them directly.

I never trained mine until very recently (started training them last week), as i was always in hurry to get my back legs chest to grow as fast as possible and spent all my energy and focus on them.

Ofcorse this is my advise from a an apearance point of view, and nothing to do with core stablitly etc that might be needed to be addressed for certain sports.

I'm starting to do them now because I start up my diet in a couple of weeks so I want my ab to be just as conditioned as every other muscle. Some people do experience back pains also from doing a lack of abs so when they work abs it balances out the muscles so I think it's important, as long as your waist doesn't become too thick. Although Jay Cutler has a fucking massive waist.

i'll probably start doing them next week, need to figure out a split cause i was gonna start doing my calves twice in my split aswell, they're lagging way too far behind ...

if you dont have time or cbf just do them more often eg after each workout or for example 3 sets of anyexercie after your workout like 2-3 days a week

hmm.. last two weeks after leg training my lower back or back errectors have been very sore. ive been doing legs on fridays and last week it was fine by monday. its monday today and still quite sore. at first i thought it was from hamstring/lower back exercises like good mornings/stdl's..new it wasnt from squats cause iv always done them and havnt had problems in the past..last 6 months iv steared away from heaps of abb work cause last year as my abs looked good imo but were getting too thick so started doin them for 5 mins if that per week. maybe its a good time to start increasing that as it could be a reason for the lower back pain.
