Steriod use at Auck champs in May

I am new to the scene and a little curious about what percentage of people you think competing would have used gear.

Please dont be offended by this post, im very neutral on the subject and would never judge others if they have. Personally I dont, simply because the thought of needles / side effects scares me...

:D

Lets not be naieve here.

In the novice men classes I would estimate 30% use some form of performance enhancing drug,( ie test, deca, clen, lasix) in the under 80 classes and half the competitors in the over 80s.

In the open mens classes probably at least half in the under 80s and over 80% in the over 80s. Here's a dead giveaway too. If someone is under 6ft, shredded and over 100kg.....they're probably using :pfft:

Masters and classic classes would probably be at least half on cycle as well. Alot of juniors use as well.

But it all depends on who turns up to the show. A big show like the Auckland champs pulls in ALOT of big guys so the figures could be even higher.

Those cheating buggers! A more relevant question would be how many people in the "natural" shows are on something? Lol I used to help a girl who won the Natural World champs years ago and she seemed to think it was ok to use everything but steroids. I'm sure she wasn't alone.

Or how many were on for 10 years then off for 1 so now their natural? Bodybuilding isnt natural.

It's all objective really. As a sport it will always be around especially in the bigger classes. Definitely less chance of it showing up in Classic, Novice and INBA.

So which feds in NZ are/aren't tested?

I realise the answer will vary depending upon individuals, particular drug etc, but what would be a ballpark or minimum time between coming off and testing clean?

Apologies if these questions seem a little naive, but curiosity got the better of me

Depending on the persons level of knowledge and access to certain AAS and cleansing treatments, a competitor could use some AAS rite up to within 1 week (or less) of a competition and test negative on the day :-)

 That's reassuring...

However its not the testing on the day that a user should be concerned about but the random test at your house I believe the NZ powerlifting federation can do..whether they do im not sure??

Out of competition testing occurs in powerlifting in NZ. I have been tested several times at home. It's usually late at night after training and when your bladder is empty. Takes a few hours on some occassions to give a sample. My record was after midnight.

Note that all my tests have been negative.

Thats a very commendable standard to be set. I have been tested once at an INBA show (also negative) ... hard to pee in a cup when you have less fluid that a chrunchie bar. I haven't heard of anyone tested at home in body building however .... perhaps is an extra cost?

I always thought you couldn't test for much on a pee sample and and a blood test was required to test for most gear? :-s

Nope.

AAS & their metabolites stick out like dogs bollocks in urine. GH, IFH-1 (& other peptides) & EPO / CERA require blood tests to detect at this stage.

I'v been tested a fair few times in bodybuilding and I just timed my intake... always passed. It meant I didn't look how I would have without the testing but I didn't feel like getting hammered over failing a drug test. Once I got jack of getting tested I just stopped doing shows in NZ and stuck with things over here.

Big respect for your honesty mate, rare breed.

Lamest thing I hear from users who dont want others to know they use gear is "I've never failed a test I've been asked to take" - f*ck'n lol lol balls have truly shrunk there

Once heard of lie detector used at Naturals and beaten by a guy who took Valium  cheating but resourceful
