Chur Chur Bro

3rd Overall awesomew effort Drizzt detailed write up too:clap: I heard you left a couple pieces of flesh in The Bay

Cheers Fellas :)

Nate - if The Wise One sets up a Wellington SM I'll train towards that, for now though, I think I'll continue chucking in implements on the end of sessions, or see if the House boys are keen to start up the Sunday implements sessions again. Really enjoy the general strength involved in it, which when it comes down to it is what I'm after I guess - strength applicable to every day things

I think they will start again after the weekend Bro this will put a bit of fire back into the boys.

Cheers again fellas (and fellette!), here's a vid of the Farmers Walk, which, ironically doesn't include myself! :pfft: (not on purpose, my old lady seemed to be finding her way with the cam and just got me picking them up :shifty:)

Will have some more videos to follow as I chop and put em all together. Will do all I've got for each event.

Cheers bro, the last log was 100kg. It wasn't so much the weight (although that was freggin tough!) it was a lot bigger in diameter than the log we're used to pressing. So when you had it up on your chest, it pushed your head back and put us (well, I found anyway) in an unusual position to overhead. I guess if you're good enough/used to it, you can turn it into an incline press.

Was actually suprised that Trap didn't finish it off when he got it to his chest, usually his struggle is getting it there, but the press is no problem. The rest of the medley likely took the toll on him I suppose.

The only two to actually press the last log were Nate and Wookie, so I ended up with 3rd because I got the previous 4 in the fastest time.

Wookie gave me some good tips on it afterwards, and OB reckons he has a bigger log sitting around which I might see if I can put to use

That 35kg DB went up like lightning haha. Cool vid

Thanks bro! Ha, I can assure you that if I had tried to do what most of the others did (press to the shoulder first, then press the weight up) instead of just snatching it, I would've had a lot more trouble! Key to a lot of these presses - kinda like olympic movements I guess - is speed of the implement. I found this out while practicing the overhead stuff in the gym. It's even evident on the apollons axle as well I reckon, you can see most guys trying to hitch it up first (and a few of them got it), but I found it way easier to just generate that momentum from the floor to get it to the clean position. Hell, I even got the log to my chest that way, just didn't have the strength (or technique!) left to press it up.

Heck, if I could snatch the logs I would! :pfft: Not quite at that level though!

Damn, awesome work man!

Thought you were gunna nail that last log given the way you flew through the first lot.

Gotta say that rock looked pretty dodge in some of those guys hands

Cheers! And haha yeah, the funny thing is, if it was just a 100kg bar I reckon I would've done it. The log is just such an awkward thing to hold, with weird weight distribution, that it makes not only the weight of it an obstacle, but the technique needs to be nailed pretty well because "muscling it up" only works to a certain point. If you see the vid, probably the only implement I had trouble with in the first 4 was the 80kg log - again, comes down to the size and shape of it.

And yeah, a few of the guys copped the 75kg stone on the chin on the way up! Haha, bit of blood shown from Trap in particular after that. I was practicing with a few of the other guys the best way to get it up the day before the comp, and we came to the conclusion that snatching it (kinda like what I tried to do!) was the best way. It was almost too awkward of a shape to rest in the clean position (which a lot of guys soon found out!).

Gotta say that rock looked pretty dodge in some of those guys hands

Was thinking exactly the same thing. Cringed a few times when the little fella got it up to his chest..

bench.gif

Ha, yeah, that little fulla (the rock was 10kg+ more than his bw!), and The Hoff had about another minute of footage each where they struggled with the rock, but just edited up to their first attempts at it.

Just watched the vid! Man you are throwing that stuff around. And why is it a farmers walk when Nate is sprinting? lol

mad effort on your part... speed and power!

Thanks Harry :) And yeah, Nate's a freaky guy! Says he has an adductor injury as well as a hernia, but you can't see any evidence of that! :poked: Haha, makes the speed even more amazing.

Final vid of the strongman, stone loads:

Only had footage of a couple of us unfortunately, may chuck a few pics up too but just about to shoot off to help with the CDs setup.

bro you move quick too and have good power. Some specific training and you could really be a force to be reckoned with in that sport. Next you'll be wanting to do a bodybuilding comp!!! ha ha ha ha Wait til after I retire!!!!

Thanks bro, appreciate the support - no plans to bodybuild, yet, but it will be on the cards somewhere down the track (it's what initially got me interested in lifting!).

28.04.11 - Stretches/Rehab

Weighed in @ low 94s today  Since the weekend, my apetite has been down a lot (probably due to not working out) which likely explains the weight being down, should be back on track next week. Wanna up the cals and see if I can get some steady, clean, weight gain going. Maybe up 2-3kg in the next month or so to a steady 98 or thereabouts.

Not got a lot to say about this workout, body is feeling a lot better - but not quite fully there - so decided to do some sled stuff (single leg mainly, different angles), loosening deads, Agile 8, shoulder mobility, few GHRs, couple sets of dips... and I think that was it. Will be spotting/loading for the CDs comp on Saturday so should be a decent little 'passive' workout!

Went to edit the highland games footage from the weekend but I have far too much of it :pfft: May have to do everybody's "best attempt" at each event, otherwise it's looking like a 40min video

  • Just a light-moderate session today, conscious of having to do 6 days in a row later this week to start Smolov  Yet to decide what to do alongside Smolov (re: upper body kinda stuff, and assistance), but I guess how we feel on the day will dictate a lot of it. I want to continue to keep the bench going as best I can so there may still be a couple of bench days (light/heavy) each week if we can handle it.
Oh, prowler lengths today were slightly shorter due to some of the equipment from yesterday's comp still being set up in the end of the lane. All good, just threw in a few extra lengths.

Yesterday was spotting/loading for the CDs, and dammit, just like watching rugby, spectating makes me want to compete

So I got home, ordered some Squat Shoes, and then placed an order with Tonka for a couple pairs of knee wraps, a pair of wrist wraps, and a pair of deadlift slippers. After seeing the 93kg class yesterday, I've got a lot of ground to make up if I want to be competitive, so want to get every advantage I can without being "equipped"... that's where the wraps and shoes come in. It's cooler (in my eyes anyway!) being raw, and if NZPF introduce a raw div, that's what I'd like to compete in long term, but for the meantime, I want to learn knee wraps in particular (which I hear may not be allowed in a raw div) just to get a slight edge.

With the (clean!) weight gain that'll hopefully be coming in the next few months, I may need a new belt soon (last rung - maybe two if I squeeze! - on the current one! :pfft:) so I may be looking to make a belt order soonish as well.

Anyway, hoping the squat shoes get here within a month, and the wraps should be here in the next week or two hopefully, so plenty of time to train and get used to them before bledisbro  Exciting times ahead, can't wait to ge tstuck into Smolov!

Yeah I followed the recent thread on the Raw div over in PH forums - a few of the boys there seemed confident that NZPF would introduce a raw div in 2012? But either way I'd like to stay raw for the forseeable future, that'll include knee wraps for me for now

  • Felt REALLY good leading into this session, was so amped up for the start of Smolov... I probably took the reps a bit too quick. Somewhere in the 3rd-4th sets I managed to ping my left glute, left vastus medialis, and left adductor  Nothing too serious I hope, but goddamn it's just like my body to try and throw it in at the beginning of the 1st session! Could feel the medialis pulling just before racking out on every set (when the weight was on the quad), and then the glute on the way down, and adductor on the way up. Then they all hurt after the set! :pfft: Ironically, it was the right side (adductor mainly) that I was worried about leading into the session, as I had a wee bit of pain there this morning, and the lower back is still a little rusty from loading plates on the weekend... but these two niggles behaved.
Otherwise the weights all felt nice and easy - to be expected of the first session, I suppose. No belt or wraps or anything yet, although I'm keen to try out the new wraps on something 150ish just to get the hang of them, so can't wait for them to arrive!
Tomorrow is a repeat of today's squats, which I can see being a bit tougher, and then backing off slightly in the reps but upping the weight a bit for Thursday. Man, don't think I've ever squatted 3 days in a row before! Moving into new, terrifying territory here :shifty:
  • Bench wasn't so bad, considering I did much the same 2 days ago.
Everything else was filler, but the sort of filler I hope to add to a lot of sessions. Chatted a bit with OB, and will probably do something similar to Westside's Repition Method for everything outside of squats.

Now, for some Ice.
