Thanks bro. Hard to tell at the moment as I haven't really raw squatted for a while, I'd estimate wraps only would have me up around the 290 region, so maybe 50-60kg from the suit? After quite a few sessions and the weight loss it is getting pretty loose, so I'll be ordering a new one for nats which will hopefully give me an extra 20-30kg :)

Thats some good carryover for a loose suit. Is it a Superior?

Nah it's a Super Cent bro. I got some really good carry over when I first bought it and was squatting at around 107kg bodyweight - I'd estimate probably 80-100kg at the time. Will be a good training suit once the new one comes in

The new Signature Gold wraps are pretty awesome too! Get a bit more out of them than the THPs, and I find them less abrasive on the skin. Slip around a tad though but adding some chalk to the knees limits this.

Good to see this back up and running :) You're well on point to take the NZ squat record, and then blow it out of the water once the back comes right + a tighter suit. Love watching you guys lift on Sundays, gets the fire burning

  • Deads were tougher than they have been lately. Wanted more tonight but the body was feeling a bit fatigued.
Also did some very light circuit work, squatting and benching to keep the body ticking over, nothing worth mentioning.

Will revive this thread, I'm enjoying reading other journals so I thought I'd throw mine into the mix as well to keep me honest.

Probably won't log every single training session or an in depth analysis of my lifts like I used to do :shifty: But will chuck in the good parts (and the really terrible ones from time to time as well to motivate me).

I'm in the process of revamping the Workout Journals section for the new site. Just waiting on a wireframe demo from the developers, so I'll be keen to get your thoughts on it. The goal now is to make the Journals section so good that Drizzt HAS to keep posting his training. :D

Sorry to hear about all your injuries, mate. I hadn't realised, but it sounds like you've been falling apart. :(

Haha, thanks Pseudo. Yeah unfortunately a combination of the big weight increases and my laziness towards working anything outside of the main movements that is costing me on the injury front. Really just need to be more vigilant on my assistance movements, particularly building a stronger core

Also need to get more creative about sitting in an office chair all week - this is apparently what is causing the hip flexor (Psoas major I'm told) to not heal properly

Bit of a delay on this one, new camera/video editing software (which I ended up not using anyway), plus it wasn't such a large session this weekend...

  • Tried on a size 40 suit for this session, actually slipped it on pretty easily by myself which kind of shows how loose the (now well-worn) 44 is getting. It was a different kind of feel though, so I didn't end up going higher than a quick and easy 300 single. Will be back in the 44 next week and will probably just take it to an opener, being a week out from the comp and all.

Vid (first session with the new camera so 'scuse the angle/massive wide shot)

Comments

  • Squats continue their weak trend through the week, good warmup for deads though.
Deads still aren't feeling as great as they have been lately, but 300 popped up ok. Probably was a second rep there (I find I can grind sumo a lot more successfully than I could with conventional) but I didn't want to go to a "true" max tonight. Claiming this as a PB because I've hit a 300 before but lost the grip at lockout, this had a good hold at the top with no movement.
Chucked bench in because I was suitably shattered at the time. Shirt is a very loose F6 (can touch with 100-110) so I don't get a lot out of it, but just enough to pump the numbers up a tad. Thinking I'll open on 140. 150 was a tad slow but had a good pause on it.
Long mob/rehab circuit to finish with.

Vid is uploading now, will follow shortly...

Thanks bro! But it won't be anything special - I'm taking CDs as a bit of a skills day, with the longer term goal being Nationals. I know the numbers are there at the moment, going all out at Regionals will probably drain me and cut my Nats prep shorter. I'd like to save it for the bigger stage

    1 x 1 @ 260kg (opener)

Comments

  • Good session, just feeling out some openers, all went well enough.
320 was ok, but the suit feels looser and looser every week. Still, this is a nice, safe opener I think.
Bench was easy, nothing to report. Did 2 singles because I missed filming the 1st one.
Deads were a little slow. Looked ok on camera but they felt a bit lethargic. Probably because I went to 300 less than a week ago, and I had some (fairly tough for me) conventional rack pulls a couple nights ago. After a week of rest I'm confident everything will speed up. Probably push the dead to a 270 opener on the day, just wasn't too keen on a 50kg jump.
Vid of the openers is uploading now, will post when it is up.

  • Big off day today. Weighed in too light, too much room in the suit but worst of all it just sapped my energy. Felt strong at first but I faded pretty quick. Started warming up a bit too early - warmed up to the schedule but it ran a bit behind, so I ended up cutting them off and starting again (hence the 2 sets at 140/180). I felt really uncomfortable under the bar and it was shaking around a lot - I ended up realising this was the bar and not me (thankfully) as the Comp bar didn't move around at all. Just a bit too much whip on the bar I was warming up with.
320 opener was a bit slower than I would've liked, but was glad to get it passed. The Judges on the sides reckoned I was right on the line, one red-lighted me for it where the other gave me the benefit. I felt like I buried it so it played on my mind a bit.
Jumped to 340, was thinking I'll chuck it down as far as I can and trust my strength. Popped out of the hole but got stuck and had to get caught. Just dropped it too deep, should've trusted my training and left it where I thought depth was as that is there or thereabouts. Ah well. Briefly considered having a second crack at 340, but I thought that would cost me in the bench and deads so I passed on it.
  • Bench was surprisingly good today. 140 flew up which I had hoped would happen, but 160 flew up equally as quick after putting the rage on so I was really stoked with that as I thought I might need to grind it. I didn't expect 170 to go up but I got it about an inch from lockout and I just couldn't straighten those elbows out! Still, I'm happy with this effort coming off a poor bench training cycle.
  • Deads felt slow to start with, so I dropped my opener from 270 to 260. 260 popped off the floor really slowly, but I sped up and locked it out nice and easy. Thought I would be able to grind 285 but I just didn't have the strength left and couldn't get through the sticking point before lockout. Pretty disappointed with that as I was hoping to go above 300 with this today.
  • This was good enough to earn me best overall open equipped male, which I didn't think I deserved looking at the names on that trophy, but I hope this was my poor effort for the year and to come out a lot stronger at Nats. If the attempts I missed flew, I would've been knocking on the door of an 800 total, so I know I'm not far off.
Biggest hindrance for me I think was the weight loss, I really tried over the past few days to stuff down the carbs and protein but it just didn't make a difference unfortunately. I will look to come in at a solid 103-104 for nats and hopefully that will make a difference.
Cheers to OB/Ruth for another excellently run comp, all the spotter loaders (thanks Colin and the boys for that 340 catch, must've been tough, sorry!) and the fellas/felettes I shared the platform with. Time to sample a few of the bottles in my scotch collection that have been yelling at me for weeks to drink them. I'll get some vids up once my hangover wears off tomorrow.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Back into training as of yesterday  Not used to that!

Here is the vid of the comp, avert your eyes:

You can kinda see me lose the 340 in the hole where my butt shifts forward - this was me trying to force depth, and the suit saying "nah bro". I think I would've had a good chance of that as a 3rd lift, but it would've cost me more for the bench/dead which, given how poor they were anyway, was probably the right call to make.
