Thanks bro! Was surprised you could see anything but fat rolls tbh I avoid mirrors as much as I can :pfft:

lookin strong, whats the roll in the movie for? ull make a top orc

Cheers bro, it was for Dwarven Blacksmiths funnily enough (given my 6feet of height), guess they'd do some camera trickery to shrink us. They needed 10 guys with big arms to hammer away at some metal in the background of a scene. A few of the House boys got in (including Aprilla and Sam from these boards), but I missed the cut. Have heard it may have been because of the tat (too much work spent covering it up on an extra) but not too fussed, was cool to have the opportunity anyways, and will be sweet to see a few of the House boys up on the big screen

Agreed BJ Orc would be madness! Think I missed the memo for that one though :(

Good thing is you are both now on file

Sweet, you can be my agent OB1, get me some badass roles :phear:

As your agent I asked why you were not picked, as I said you were bigger than some of the other guys. She said you were initially picked, then the discussion of the tattoo was raised later with make up.

Dwarf Smiths ok BadAss

Ahhh awesome, well it's nice to know I was picked were it not for the ink. I hear Avatar 2 and 3 may be coming to Wellington, surely if they paint us blue the tats won't matter - maybe if they're looking for some strong blue fullas we could fill that role, ha ha. Keep me in the loop, Agent OB :salute:

  • Fairly good day today, squats have been feeling really good from the outset lately, just begin to get lazy in the latter sets which make them a bit harder.
Chalked the knees for wraps today which seemed to amplify the pain, but the wraps did stay put (mostly) which is the goal.
First working set was easy, childs play, but the jumps of 25kg between sets really kill me! Would love to have a little 10-15kg stepping stone between each one, or start the first set a wee bit higher so the increases aren't as much. But I think I'll just follow the plan...
Second set was ok, not really hard.
Third was a toughie. First rep was ok but I kinda paused a bit because I was searching for depth which burnt a lot of my rebound, second the wraps dragged me forward somehow and I battled a bit to get it up. Really didn't believe I could get a 3rd, but took a few extra breaths at the top, sat back into it well, and the rep ended up feeling really good. Finished off like a boss, potentially another in the tank but maybe wishful thinking.
Was a little bit worried about depth as it didn't feel good at the time, but reviewing the footage, the hip crease looks to pass below the top of the knee on each rep, so I'll take it as bang on.
Seemed to not be as tight/upright today, which affected my output pretty badly. Ah well good enough I reckon. 260 triple next Saturday, bring it.
  • Bench felt fantastic today! Was in control of all of the reps, my forearms felt like they were always under the bar, lowered it nice and slow and exploded back out easily. Arch feels good. Never troubled for any of the reps at 132, this is the best my bench has felt for quite some time.
  • Carrying on from that, BB Rows and Turks were a piece of cake. Turks in particular - I haven't done them for a few weeks, so did a top set of 60lb instead of 65, and surprisingly it was incredibly easy. Hoping maybe I can triple 80 on the final week, and might see about a single at 100lb on each side... stay tuned.

Good session! MT and I then went to Joes for our post workout feed... and they managed to get every part of our order wrong  Ordered 2 x locals (aka big breakfast), 2 large flat whites, and 1 x large fries with no salt.

Got 1 x local, 2 small flat whites, and a massive amount of fries... swimming in salt. So MT had to wait a bit for his. All good though, as they more than made up for it with pretty much half price for our meals and filled up a couple of coffee cards for us, which was very nice of them.

Video to follow.

Dear esteemed Journal-readers, and lifting buddies!

M.T has come up with a very cool initiative, where we use our next powerlifting comp on the 17th of March (and the training leading up to it) to drive for a good cause. That cause is raising money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

So we'll lift under the CCF banner (without offending NZPF ), and hopefully draw attention to this awesome cause.

We've got a bit of a fundraising page set up here, so if any of you would like to be incredibly awesome and chuck a few bucks into it to help us meet our target, we would greatly appreciate that :)

Otherwise, if you're in the Wellington region, why not come along and support us on the day? It's 272 Taranaki St, at The Powerhouse Gym (opposite Wellington High School). Lifting will probably start around 10, but we likely won't be on until the early afternoon (guessing, can confirm closer to the time).

Massive thanks to any support.

  • Pretty good day today! Decided to cut down on my warmup sets and make a couple of bigger jumps instead - and it did wonders for the top end! Everything felt so smooth throughout, definitely keeping this method in.
First working set was pretty good, wraps were a bit loose, you can hear a bit of a "crack" on the video where the wraps slip down the thigh (and up the calf) and sorta clump together behind my knee. This isn't only an unpleasant feeling, but it drains a lot of the power I get from the wraps. So the first rep is pretty good, the second is a little worse, and the third is kinda bad. Still, didn't feel too poorly with this going on.
Second set was horrible, wrapping was all wrong - when I wrap tight, I pinch a vessel of some sort in my calf on the right leg, which always gives intense pain. Combine that with the chalk and general irritation the wraps give me, I've not been loving wrapping lately! Managed to grind out the 3 here though, but wasn't incredibly confident heading into the final set.
So I cranked the wraps up tight as, and when it begun to hurt, I just kinda had a turning point where I started to embrace the pain. I could feel it all - the cut into the skin, the chalk grinding in between everything, the vessel throbbing due to lack of blood... I loved it! I let the pain in, and there was no way it was gonna dampen my spirits - in fact, it kinda made me want to smash the set even harder. So I proceeded to get up and put out probably the best set of the day, 3 very easy reps. Loving it.
  • Bench was alright, still feeling very powerful on the leadup sets, just not quite carrying over into 140+ territory yet. Very first rep of the working set was smooth, felt very good, the second came off the chest ok, but I lost my tightness, relaxed, and the arch went down too, so I had to grind my way out of the rep. The third was never gonna happen, dropped it fast, lost control, barely got it off my chest.
So I decided to have another crack at the weight to make up for the missed rep, and thought I may as well make it a pause for good measure. Again, shot up pretty well after a nice pause, but about 2 inches from lockout I pretty much stopped and MT grabbed the bar... now, I honestly think I would've had it if left for a second more, but who knows. If I did get it, I would've claimed a new paused PB, but because there was a wee bit of assistance, I'll have to claim that another time...
  • Dips were awesome, I'm sure I'm into PB territory now but maybe not... BB rows are getting easier as the weights go up, so we pumped things up by 5kg today.

Video coming, spent a little extra time on it putting some of our charity stuff in, let me know if you have any suggestions :)

Thanks Rod! :)

And the guy at which part of the video? In the blue shirt, squatting down? If so, that's Old Bull, he was recording the squat (holding the camera down) - he records some of the lifts from that angle for our weekly highlights thing at the Powerhouse

  • Just circuity-assistance stuff today so haven't logged it in depth. Didn't really note weights or reps (or even sets) as I was doing the stuff, just did the exercise with a given weight until I felt I'd worked the target well enough (around 8-9 RPE).
Everything was pretty slow and controlled, relatively lightly weighted, and most of the stuff was super/giant-setted.

Probably wouldn't usually bother logging this stuff, but want to show that I have actually been doing something for assistance alongside the actual work.

Back in for deads tomorrow.
