Sorry, Pseu! If it makes you feel better I didn't even end up finishing half of it :shifty:

Cheers SUAS! Went oook, in the end...

26.11.11 - Bledisbro Cup 3-lift

Weighed in at 103.1 so pretty standard weight. Will just list the comp attempts, won't muck around with the warmups.

Squats were all belt and knee wraps, bench was raw, deads were belted for the final 2 :shifty:

  • Squat
    240kg 1st attempt - white/white/white [=Comp PB]
    260kg 2nd attempt - white/white/white [+20kg Comp PB]
    272.5kg 3rd attempt - white/red(depth)/red(depth)
  • Bench
    130kg 1st attempt - white/white/white [=Comp PB]
    140kg 2nd attempt - white/white/white [+10kg Comp PB]
    145kg 3rd attempt - red/red/red (missed lift)
  • Deadlift
    250kg 1st attempt - white/white/white
    265kg 2nd attempt - white/white/white [+12.5kg Comp PB]
    272.5kg 3rd attempt - red/red/red (missed lift)
  • Total
    665kg [+42.5kg Comp PB]

  • SO, it was an ok day, not right on what I was hoping for, but glad to confirm my skills session in a comp environment which was the minimum I was after today.
Didn't get enough sleep, not through lack of trying as I got to bed nice and early, was just too restless so I didn't manage to nod off until a couple of hours after hopping in bed. This gave me a 5ish hour sleep as I went in early to help my Dad out (who lifted in the morning session), and as I was lifting in the afternoon, it made for a rather long day.
  • Squats - opener felt ok, felt like I sunk it nice and deep, looked pretty easy on film, glad to get the nerves out of the way for this one - especially as most people today were getting judged really closely on depth (not a complaint either - I prefer to be judged harshly). 3 whites/=comp PB.
Second attempt was rusty as, walkout was banging around, legs were unstable, descent felt crap, and popped up a bit wobbly, but somehow snuck away with depth again and 3 whites/+20kg comp PB.
Third attempt actually felt pretty good, better than the 260 in fact. Walkout was better, felt like I had good control of it, but kinda knew in my head after I had finished that I'd be quite close to depth. Popped up pretty easy (easier than the 260), one judge was ok with it but the centre and one to the left of me didn't like it. Hard angle to judge on film but those on the sidelines said there was about half an inch in it. 1 white + 2 reds for depth.
Kinda happy to know that 272.5kg/600lb is there, as the strength wasn't a problem at all, just need a bit more time with these larger weights to work on my depth a bit more. Probably should've at least been doing walkouts with this weight pre-comp. Ah well, live and learn! Missed my target here but as I said above, good to confirm the 260 in a comp setting with nice, strict judges in any case
  • Bench wasn't bad, opening attempt at 130 flew up. 3 whites/=comp PB (I know, pathetic!).
Second attempt at 140 felt pretty easy, little bit wobbly-looking on film but 3 whites/+10kg comp PB, so I'll take that.
Third attempt I felt like it was there, came off the chest nice and fast which is usually a good sign for me, as I traditionally have a pretty strong lockout. But just hit a wall a couple inches out from locking, and had to get spotted out of it. 3 reds for a missed lift.
Kinda what I expected from bench, stoked to get the 140 as that's been my comp nemesis for a little while, but the 145 should've gone up so I'm a little disappointed there. Had some massive cramp in my left hand where my fingers kept locking down to my palm and I had to pry them off. Didn't effect my bench at all but it was a bit worrying!
  • Deads! At this point I was hitting a wall, the lack of sleep was catching up with me, everything was beginning to cramp, and my mind had one foot out the door... my pink breast cancer socks were a hit though, will have to make them a regular for my deads I think.
First lift, I had a bit of a brain explosion - I freggin forgot my belt   I got out to the platform, picked it up, thought "f*ck this feels heavy!", locked it out with a wee bit of a grind. Got back to the pit and the guys were saying "faaar what a monster", was wondering what they were on about as it wasn't a huge lift, until someone pointed out I did it without a belt. BOOM realisation hit and I felt like a dork  Ah well, 3 whites and an unintentional +20kg beltless PB here :pfft:
I got everyone to remind me of my belt for the 265. Strolled out, got it up with a small grind at lockout. Pleased to get a good little overall +5kg PB here, and honestly got back to the pit and was ready to nap :shifty:
Almost forgot my belt for the 3rd lift too! Luckily my Dad reminded me just as I was chalking up to go out, the mind was definitely wandering at this point! Got into a decent zone for the lift, but truth be told I think I defeated myself mentally before I got out there. Came off the floor surprisingly fast! Quicker than the previous two attempts, but hit a wall just above the knees that I knew straight away wasn't going to budge, so I threw in the towel. Strength (and mood I guess) just wasn't there today, could be there on another day but too weak when it counted.
Now, I put it down rather hard, but never lost contact with the bar... however one judge said he could've DQ'd me (and my total) for dropping the bar. I was a bit too light headed to think anything of it at the time and took it as good advice (will definitely think on it in future), but thought about it and was sure I never lost my grip until the bar hit the ground - I thought that was all that was needed? Footage confirmed my thoughts... but oh well, didn't get DQ'd so it's a moot point in the end - however I would've been ropable had I been disqualified on my final lift of the day! Luckily it didn't come to that...
Also tore a callus on my 2nd attempt, damn my rough hands! Thought I did a decent job of chewing them back the other day, but obviously not good enough. Good 20c piece-sized rip out of my right hand, so I packed it with chalk for the 3rd and didn't really notice it until after I was done. Cheers to Wa for snipping it up for me.

All in all, nice day! Disappointed not to hit either of my 600lb targets, but they should fall before too long. Thanks HEAPS to HJP for running cards and filming us, awesome results today for him too.

Good to catchup with a few peeps - Morattigirl who made the trip down, NZMM, TFB, Gasp, Vee, SamBNZ, LiamB and lots of others I know I've forgotten. Was also cool to lift with my old man again, and my younger bro in his first comp.

Video to follow...

Bloody awesome effort KP

harsh call on the 272 squat...this kind of shit fucks me off no end...clearly it was depth. The sport is for the lifters not the ref.

anyhoo...huge effort and a huge return for your training - Ups

LOVED the pink socks! They really helped with the liftering I feel!

Great day and awesome lifting, well done sir  that's a great new total to be having!

Thankya Vee, as I said on FB needed to match your pink chucks! Might be pink squat suit next... or is that taking it too far :pfft:

Thanks big guy. Yeah to be fair I knew they were reffing to the letter of the law today so I should've made sure of it and sunk it deeper, fault is my own there  I just wasn't quite sure how that weight was going to pop up, in hindsight I could've gone deeper without trouble. Ah well, next comp

yeahe buheeei! awsome stuff...hey was celia Mcmillian(sp) the side ref?

Thanks bro! Yeah she was indeed, she gave me my only white on the 272.5

Yeah tough to see from the camera angle but my old man said it looked high and he's pretty honest so I'll take his word on it :pfft: Ah welll I'm happy enough to know the strength is there if I need it

We have some of the most consistent refs in the country and I may say the toughest, but come Nationals our lifters rarely bomb, come International its the same.

You know Drizzt in your heart, whether you had it, your second was close, you earn you whites in The House as you know. No use giving lifters lifts, when they do not deserve it, then they go away and bomb on a bigger stage. Two of our top lifters bombed on Depth in the Squat, Ice Man and Costa they knew it, you do not need TMOs chiming in.

enough of the ninjathreahijacked.gif

Drizzt masssive comp 42.5kg Comp PB   you did your self proud, and your family, pleasure to watch and to witness the change, in such a short time, bigger things to come, and always another comp.

BTW pretty awesome feed and desserts you sleeping beauties missed out on drink.gif

Thanks VP, looking forward to seeing how you go at the NIs

i wouldve backed drizt here and said they were salmon...but there just too much fluro :pfft: :pfft:

perhaps a new age of Metro Powerlifter?

Haha yeah a wee bit bright weren't they. Good cause though and I will wear them from henceforth - Trapfat says he wanted to borrow them for the next comp, will see what I can do.

Awesome lifting there Drizzt. You gotta be happy with that  I too thought your last lift looked depth but like you said angle of camera and all. Next time aye...as that came up no trouble.

Don't know about the pink socks tho bro :? Bet that was a talking point

Thanks BB, yeah I trust the refs, I felt I was cutting it fine in training so the reality is I probably should've trained a lot deeper than I was. Ah well!

Yeah could hear the crowd talking about it on my first dead ha :shifty:

Re: depth, absolutely - I was telling my bro and Dad straight after it failed that I felt like it was cutting it fine at best, I don't (and haven't) blame the refs at all for my depth not being there  Just a little disappointed in myself for not sinking it that extra half inch or so as the strength was easily there. Truth be told my 260 felt the same in my head, so I felt I was lucky to get away with it, win some and lose some huh

Haha, yeah after my 32 hours with no sleep I couldn't hold myself up any longer :pfft: Did want to make the prizegiving but I was just too shagged at that point, just woke up now after dozing off for a good 18ish hour sleep

As the Technical Controller, I saw quite a few cutting it fine, even when I was calling depth, some were heading up before I called so I would say up hoping to influence the Refs rolleyessign.gif even worse when your saying down down down and they head up. Strength was there bro just got to trust the training

Tell me about it but you guys looked pretty jaded, I ate your Pavs and Triffle and your share of the Cream.
