Thanks Vee, could've used a spot from ya though!

I'll book myself in to be a side spotter for the next one, 30% carry over from Vee spotting guaranteed!

I'll hold you to that 8)

lookin good for dual 600 pounders bro

Cheers RM, hopefully I nail the mental side of things on the day, and the comp environment with friends + whanau watching will give me a bit of carry over too. Dual 600s would be grouse

Nicer Skills Bro,

It takes sometimes 2-3 years for your Squat to catch your Deadlift then pass it, you did it a year I think well close to.

Tidy all around Drizzt, Hook looks like it will stand up to 600, changed your pull for the better.

Good Day in The Office

Thanks Wa, yeah good to reign in the numbers a wee bit closer to each other. Just need to bring bench up now.

  • Just really mucked around today, wanted something easy after exerting a lot of energy on Thursday night.
  • Squats were tough, felt hard throughout, probaby the body telling me I need a rest. Didn't feel like I was getting depth.
Final set I went hi-bar, brought the stance in, and dropped them rock bottom.
  • Bench was fun, Beast wanted to work in with us so we told him we'd match him in boards :pfft: Good fun, paused all of the board reps, 2-board at 160 was good, nice to feel that sort of weight in the hands. Went for a second but it didn't budge :shifty: The first rep was really clean though. 3 board I think is our sticking point so we might look to do a lot more of these in future with heavier weight.

We'll be in Tues-Thurs next week, and then I'm off to Brisbane from the Fri-Sun as have a family member not doing too flash. Will be good to take the mind off lifting for a little bit and just cruise anyway.

Then we'll probably do Monday only in the week leading up, maybe speed pulls and bench, then just relax till the day. Can't wait

13.11.11 - Assist

103.5 today.

Very nice day in the capital so we walked in to town, which took about an hour and a half. Came in with the intention of doing Cro Magnon, but after the big walk we really couldn't be bothered :pfft: So did some gunz instead (as you do alternatively on hot days :shifty:).

  • Preacher Curls (ez bar) superset with Rope Pushdowns (sets, reps, weights)
    3 x 10 @ 12.5kg/ps & 3 x 10 @ full stack
  • DB Skullcrushers superset with Chins
    3 x 10 @ 25lb/ps & 3 x 5 @ bw
  • Incline DB Curls superset with Band Pushdowns
    3 x 10 @ 30lb/ps & 3 x 10 @ green band

decent bench (but you know that needs to come up!)

Yeah definitely, the embarrassment of my lifts  Honestly believe I should be up around 4 wheels bench with the squat and dead that I have. Thinking of taking another year off rugby to pursue that goal.

Looking forward to seeing what you post at bbro!!

Cheers I'm interested to see too! Haha.

Maybe after bbro spend some time getting your shoulder 100% so you can really concentrate on it properly. I mean yeah 4 plates for sure with that fricking squat! 270+ at bbro

Yeah it's actually feeling really good at the moment (the shoulder), so apart from generally strengthening the rear area (traps + rear delts) I'm not sure what to do about it. I think rolling out the soreness with a tennis/hockey ball did wonders for it - hasn't flared up for a good month or so now, despite all of the heavy squatting I've been doing. Volume will be a good test for it though

And yep, if opener + 2nd goes well on the day, I'll be aiming for 600lb on the 3rd (272.5). If I get that, it'll probably be motivation enough to continue on to next year and try get my 300 squat in wraps + belt

And haha, yes my calves are horrible, I'm a slacker when it comes to them :shifty:

  • Just cruising today really. Wanted to get some decent weight on my back for squats, but nothing too strenuous.
Used the Grippers for the top set, gotta say; I feel like they've fallen even further behind the Titaniums and THPs in my wrap pecking order, I just don't seem to get much of anything out of them  They weren't done horrifically tight, but I did give them a decent amount of stretch when putting them on. Oh well I'm still keen to use them as my main training wrap, and save the other two for comps (although the titaniums are on their last legs, not sure how many more comps they'll see...)
In saying that, 220 was still pretty easy. Just concentrating a lot on technique right now, making sure I sit back, hold the bar tight. Dropped slower than usual today just to accentuate the movement and make depth bang on (which looked pretty much like I was "riding the line" on vid - bit close for comfort I reckon), came up nice and quick though which is great.
All of the warmups felt nice and snappy too. 200 "classic style" went up the fastest it's been for weeks, very uplifting to have that happen
This will probably be the last wrapped session we do before the comp. Might do some light squats on Thurs with the Speed deads, and will do some more on Monday, but not too high. Cruise mode from now.
  • Bench felt really good, had to hold myself back from going higher than 130 (sooo tempted for a 140 single or double) but I reminded myself I'm too close to comp to be f*cking about with my training, so kept it simple/light.

Aaaand done. Have a vid of our top sets I'll post up soon.

11 days/2 sessions to go :jive:

  • Nice little hitout, tweaked my (non-troublesome) shoulder slightly in push press, oops. Doesn't feel too bad, just kinda like that feeling where you need to click your back but you can't... quite... get... it :banging:
Neeeeearly got the 120, have film of it, got to a grinder point inches from lockout, and I just threw in the towel straight away, didn't want to spend too much energy on it. Just the way that 110 flew up, I thought I may have 120 in the tank. It'll be there on another day, just not today. Didn't wanna retry and exacerbate the shoulder twinge.
Deads were ok, felt a wee bit harder than they should do but that's fine. Last heavy-ish session before comp.
Did some calves because Harry made me feel guilty :pfft:
Most of the stuff was run pretty concurrently.
  • OH and failed miserably at our attempts to do a pullup with a 50kg plate. Tried it from a dead hang... got maybe a few cm. Tried it with a small push off and got my upper arms about parallel... which translates to probably forehead level at the bar. But that was it. Not meant to be for my 104kg frame :pfft:

Next session will be Monday, off to Brisbane tomorrow afternoon, back midnight Sunday/Monday. Will be good to relax. Wellington is teasing me with it's sunny, yet windy, weather, so I can't hit the beach here yet :(

Have vid of today's session but may not post it up, not very interesting really.

Agree with that...nice way to chill before your comp. Hope the weather is all good

Thankya BB, I hear it is pretty good there at the moment. Will be good to catch up with some friends and family in the sun, and take the mind off lifting for a bit 8)

  • Ok final hitout, got back home from Brisbane just after 2am this morning, so back to the cold reality of Wellington! Needed a nice session to get me back into the swing of things, but it has been good to not think about lifting all weekend.
Squats felt powerful, but I have some fairly decent sunburn from sitting on the beach for a couple of hours in Mooloolaba yesterday with erherrmnosuncscreencough :shifty: This made the squats a wee bit more painful than usual...
Dropped 200 nice and slow to make sure I got depth, and powered out of it really easily. Probably could've gone to 210-215 with no wraps without too much trouble, but today was just meant to get the body moving and thinking about it's job again. And I didn't want to keep suffering through the sunburn :shifty:
So apart from the searing pain across my upper back with the bar across it, and the shoulders from squeezing together hard, the squats themselves felt really, REALLY good. I think I'm peaking well for this. Can't wait!
  • Bench was hard to gauge, as I just couldn't stand to dig my shoulders together/into the bench as I usually do, so flat backed everything. 120 was pretty tough but without my usual setup I wasn't surprised. I'm sure this will be fine on the day.

So that was the last pre-bbro session! Will help setup for the comp on Weds if I can get in, and then it's game time. This week will be spent eating and relaxing, making sure the body is fresh. I've done all of the prep and hard work, now it's time to reap the rewards
