  • Nice to end the template on a high :-)
Squats started ok, everything felt smooth (and didn't have to wait for a rack this week! 8)). First working set was ok, not as easy as 190 should be but was alright. Have come a fair way to be doing it without wraps with relative ease anyways.
220 looked ok on film, but didn't feel that great, which kinda made me nervous about the top set...
But got in the zone (with the help of some salts :shifty:) and smashed it out pretty easy in the end. Awesome feeling to triple your previous PB. First 2 reps looked on the money, 3rd was probably a half inch or so high, didn't feel great either way (technique-wise). Pretty fast all around though which is promising.
Gives me a lot of confidence heading into skills next week.
  • Bench was slow today, think I spent myself on squats. Still, got all reps ok. Was going to move it up to 135 if it was feeling alright.. but it wasn't, haha.
  • Turks were great! I thought last week I had found my match in the 50lb DB, but kept climbing today and didn't fail, so that was good. 65 was bloody tough though, I don't think I can get much more than that (for triples anyway).

Program done! Video uploading... roll on skills. Will be good to drop back to some light weights briefly before the comp too, have been feeling quite fatigued lately. Back has been very tight so will be nice to rest it up.

  • Done, just like that. For all of the squats up to (and including) the 160s, I dropped down so the bar hit the pins (sitting on my calves to get there). Wanted to feel that nice, fast kick out of the bottom. No belt or anything today. Paused at the bottom on the lighter sets, again just wanted to snap into the ascent as fast as possible.
Bench was no mucking around. You-go-I-go for the whole thing, and just pushed it out as fast as possible.

Roll on skills 8)

Ha you'd be fine as a spotter! You'd be taking less than a quarter of the weight (unless I pass out :pfft:), hopefully I'd still be lifting the majority of it, so the sides are just the guide and a bit of a boost, the back is a bit more important though.... but I'd trust ya with a side

I'm sure we'll have a few around to help out anyways :)

  • Pretty handy hitout today!
Squats felt average, to be honest, I've been buzzing in anticipation for this session over the past couple of days, and by the time I got to the gym I had kinda gotten over it already :shifty:
All of the warmups felt average as, so I was thinking I'd go conservative and do 230/250, but loose wraps on 220 flew up, so thought I may as well push it a bit further.
Wrapped up probably the tightest I've ever done for the opener @ 240 (using THPs). Waited a while on my lonesome for the spotters to finish up which really hurt with the wraps on. No excuses here but the walkout was a wee bit shady because I had lost feeling in my lower legs from the wrap tightness :pfft: However, sat into it ok, was thinking "hmm, feels heavier than the 240s last week", but as soon as I hit the bottom it popped up with ease. Easily the best 240 rep I've ever done, camera angle was funny so it looks close on film depth-wise, but the spectators assure me it was good.
Going by how 240 shot up, I decided to load 260 on. Used my Titaniums for this, and I definitely feel like they're losing their spring a bit, so was tempted to stay with the THPs that had served me so well in the previous set, but couldn't be bothered re-rolling them :pfft: So went with the tried and true. Walkout was dodgy, this time just because it was such a shock carrying that much on my back. I was in no frame of mind to squat it, had no aggressiveness, felt tired, bit over it. Started doubting myself as I stood there with it on my back, and then as I descended I vividly saw in my head a picture of me getting stapled at the bottom. This doubt in my mind caused me to lose a bit of tightness. The bar rolled up my neck a bit, nearly lost it! But somehow I popped out of the hole nice and easy and it looked ok when reviewing the film. Felt pretty strong on the way up, it was the leadup/way down that I was freaking out on. Depth looked good on film and according to spectators. Nice to have gotten this (easily too), because it really gives me confidence for a crack at 272.5 on comp day. That is, if everything goes well and I get my first and second lifts.
    6pps is a nice little milestone 8)
Also learned that if things go pear-shaped for whatever reason with the Titaniums, I think I can trust the THPs to get me through, as they felt really good when done super tight.
Good to get another 20kg PB here, seem to be making them in 20kilo jumps this year which I'm not complaining about!
  • Bench, not alot to say. I've been here before with these weights, feel a bit stagnant. Was nice to get the 140 up with relative ease, probably good for 145, maybe 147.5 if everything clicks, not sure about my optimistic target of 150 we'll have to see how we go on the day. Still, small PB out of it (got a paused 137.5 in the leadup to the Auckland Novice if I remember correctly), felt pretty good under the bar, but this is still lagging hugely behind where it should be. Need to put in some hard yards here and get some big gains out
  • Deads were ok too, definitely winding down at this point but that's how it is gonna be on comp day so good to simulate that situation. Warmups didn't feel great, but not really terrible either.
Intended to open on 240, but went to lift and my brother (correctly) informed me that we had 250 on the bar. Couldn't be bothered mucking around with weight swapping and stuff, and knew I was good for a 250, so banged that out instead. Flew up, easily the best rep of 250 I've ever done.
Jumped to 260, pretty good off the floor, good through the middle, small stall at the very top but only for a split second, and boom, lockout. This went up without any real trouble either.
Hook grip held out beautifully, got a callus tear on one thumb but not a serious one, superficial.
Feel like deads and squats have become pretty even nowadays which is awesome. I think if everything goes absolutely awesome, I should be able to nail a 600lb in both, fingers crossed! My squat and dead total in that case would almost match the entire total of my first novice comp 7 months ago :pfft:

Good day in the office! Plenty more in the tank, and I'm sure I'll be a lot more pumped on the day if I time my run better which will hopefully result in better lifts. Good to confirm my thoughts on how the weights would go, now just ready to get out there and smash the comp.

Video being created now (MT, I'll make a seperate one for all of us otherwise it's going to run into 5mins, no one wants to see that lol). Will post up later.

Thanks Phed, yeah honestly I've always felt like Squats should be a good lift for me, always had the power there (well, most of it haha), I just needed to get the technique down. Once that was done (although not at all perfect by any stretch) the squat rocketed up  Hope it keeps going up!

Also a big factor was sorting my hip imbalance, allowed for a more even load transfer to both legs. Hadn't even thought of it before this year, but the couple of physio sessions a week since May-ish have done wonders for it

Cheers big guy, stoked with not so much the numbers, but the way they went up. Easy as second lifts should be, with room in the tank for a crack at a big 3rd
