Awesome effort man!! Well done! Showing amazing progress.... Must have been the bearded training!

Thanks Harry, imagine what I could've got if I had kept the beard!

Strong squat bro, I am impress

Cheers bro!

Wow, nice work there D - huge gain in the squat  which must make all that attention to detail in Smolov worthwhile.

Thanks G, tough program, but good results if you can tough it out

Represent Drizzt

Good day at "The Office"

Cheers OB! All the hard work in such an awesome environment that you've provided has paid off

Nice write up Drizz.. And congratulations on the fantastic result!

That's a maaasive improvement from your last novice comp bro. Big bench here we come ;)

Thanks PnW! And Bench is next. Squat was atrocious before, and decent after a hard few months grind, so I've got supreme confidence in myself to improve the bench to respectable heights with the same sorta training

That's a great squat! and wicked total, has to feel good taking out biggest total  Massive improvement since the start of Smolov, that's a 50-60kg gain right? All the hard work really paid off  Best of luck getting the shoulder right and bringing your bench up even further mate.

Drizzt was great meeting you on Saturday.

Excellent work mate and well done on the pb's. Look forward to catching up with you again sometime. Maybe a visit to our club comp is required.

Thanks bro! To be fair there weren't many there - and I was the heaviest lifter too! - but it did feel a tad unusual to have the biggest total for the day.

55kg gain in the end, yep, 35kg from the Base Cycle (it was probably 20kg + 15kg from wraps), and 20kg on the Intense. So it'd probably be accurate to say that I got 20kg from each cycle.

Will probably do a "Smolov review" when I get back to Wellington and have thrown the last of our footage together :)

just goin from strengh to strengh bro, mad gains, keep em coming!!

Thanks bro, pleasure too meet ya, and happy birthday!

Cheers Traps, awesome effort yourself especially at your bodyweight, good stuff

I hope to get to the CBC comp in Sept, but I'm heading to Vegas in a couple of weeks so it may depend on how much money I have (or don't have :pfft:) when I get back as to whether I can afford to travel up or not. We'll see!

Putting me to shame with those squats buddy ... respect

Thanks bro, where ever your squats are at the moment I'm sure you're not far off them clicking with that raw strength you've got

25.07.11 - Conditioning

101.1 today. Just came in for a bit of work to keep the blood flowing. After taking a week's break following the last test, it was so much harder to get back into things, so decided I'll keep the work going, even if it's just lightish stuff.

  • Squats (sets, reps, weights)
    1 x 10 @ 60kg
    1 x 10 @ 100kg
    3 x 10 @ 120kg (b)
  • Skipping
    2 x 1min sets
  • Standing Band Crunches
    3 x 10 (1sec pause) @ green band

  • Thought I'd get going with some light squats. Felt ratshit really! Not very sore at all from the weekend, but the shoulder blades (both!) where the bar rests, and my left trap (happens on heavy deads) are both pretty sore. Focus wasn't really there, and balance was off on a couple of sets, but was good to whack these weights out anyway.
Skipping was just to get the lungs going (which they were! :pfft:). Want to drop 2-3kg before Vegas so the motor isn't as noticeable at the poolside  So the next couple of weeks I'm intending to do a lot of conditioning work (tyres, jumping, prowler, sleds etc), and low-carb the diet up a bit. Should also help with whatever program we do next. Don't want my cardio to slip too bad again, and it isn't shit hot right now. Will probably walk in tomorrow and do some casual strongman-ish stuff.

Think I'm gonna have a nanna nap, and then I'll put together the footage from the comp and write my Smolov review 8)

26.07.11 - Conditioning

100.4 today.

  • Rowing
Display wasn't working, so I counted 100 strokes (nohomo), probably about 3mins worth of solid rowing
  • Sleds/prowler
    1 x 4 lengths @ 100kg sled & 4 lengths @ 80kg prowler (horns/hi-bar)
    3 x 4 lengths @ 100kg sled & 4 lengths @ 40kg prowler (horns/hi-bar)
  • Russian Twists
    3 x 10/ps @ 5kg plate

  • Also walked/jogged (err, for little bits :shifty:) into the House, which took me about 1 hour 30mins or so from where I live (about a 2hour walk usually). And about another 30mins walking to get back to The Doc's for some work on the hip/shoulder.
Got a bit of a cold at the moment which makes this "un-fun" work even less of a joy to do as I'm a bit clogged up, but if I want to show more than the power motor and some moobs in Vegas, then I'll have to suck it up and tidy diet/exercise up for the next couple of weeks.
Will rest up tomorrow (first day back at work :(), then may attack some hi-rep squats on Thursday (like, more than 3?)

Don't believe it for a second. :pfft:

Ha well maybe I'm a bit hard on the moobs, they're not too bad, but shall we say the midsection is a little bit more "cuddly" than I'd usually allow :shifty:

There's a rowing machine at the house? :-s Have you been hanging out in the 'upstairs' bit? :naughty: you cardio bunny! :pfft:

Indeed there is!

And hey hey hey... keep it down! :shifty: :-$ :-$ :-$

28.07.11 - Conditioning

100.6 today, still pretty clogged up and I tend to hold a higher weight when I'm like this, so I'm thinking once the cold has dropped off there'll be a slight drop in weight.

  • Squats (sets, reps, weights)
    1 x 10 @ 60kg
    1 x 8 @ 100kg
    1 x 8 @ 120kg
    1 x 8 @ 140kg (b)
    1 x 10 @ 140kg (b)
  • Tyre Flips
    3 x 10 @ 230kg
  • Lat Pulldowns
    3 x 12 @ 40kg
  • Rear DB Raises
    3 x 12 @ 10lb

  • Still just mucking around a bit today. Wanted some hi-rep squats, and for me, this is high at the moment :pfft: This is the strongest I've ever felt beneath 140kg, but by the 10th rep (hammies to calves) I was completely gassed and just couldn't hold the core tight enough to go on   Shall keep doing these as they've gotta be good for ya! Will try and do at least a top set of 10, and do it heavier each week. Want to try and leave the wraps out of the hi-rep stuff and just use the sleeves. Just used the Chucks today too, was interested to see how squatting would feel without the Ristos. Tipped forward once or twice - guess maybe I'm overcompensating for the change in heel height? Dunno.
Haven't tyre-flipped since the HBSM a few months back, and these just made me feel even worse about my fitness :pfft: Back then - and I wasn't exactly fighting fit then either - I could do a set of 10 without breaking a sweat. But a casual 10 this time had me heaving like an asthmatic :pfft: Still, forced myself to get 3 sets of 10 out and aside from the fitness, they didn't feel too bad.
To be fair on me though, this cold has clogged me up a bit which is no doubt contributing to my current cardiovascular issues, but I'll continue to hammer it until it's acceptable - and hopefully not let it slip again!
