highfive.gif Mean, cheers for that.

Also reviewing the videos from start to finish, we notice we gradually get a lot larger in the thighs, haha. I think M.T is going to try and put together a side-by-side comparison of the first and last week legs.

This'd be interesting

Oh, and I had to buy a new pair of work pants because I had to shuffle-walk in the last lot, and hardly any of my jeans fit me anymore without looking like emo-skinny jeans :pfft: :pfft:

Would be interesting to see what your waist size difference is and how that might be affected by postural changes etc etc etc I often find as my weight goes up and I am eating more food that if I don't train my abs I get kind of a sway back and belly pokes out, partially from the volume of food, partially distension/ bloat from water retention and partly from the dispcrepancy between lower back and abdominal wall strength. I now conciously train my abs with weighted exercises to alleviate that imbalance and get my hips back in line. (they tend to rotate back if my lower back is tight and abs not so tight lol)

Good thought. Waist hasn't increased hugely (I can still squeeze two notches into the old belt - 3 notches was a tight fit before Smolov/6-7kg ago) but I have been quite slack on the ab exercises (maybe once a week these days) and I am pretty bad posturally (anterior pelvic tilt). So I guess it could be high risk... I'll keep up the ab work after comp time, cheers

Does it cost a lot to get your bloods done? Do you say, "My family has a history of heart disease and I want to have a look at my cholesterol etc" or do you just head in and ask for a full report? I was told how much they charge depends on your reason?

Sorry to butt in here Drizzt but I know over here in sydney I can get my bloods done for free at one of the hospitals that run std testing programmes etc etc etc so whilst they primarily test for STDs I go in and ask for everything lol my budget way of getting my bloods done. Govt funded... thank you!

They may have something similar in NZ, perhaps making some enquiries at your local needle exchange?

Sorry man but I'm not actually too sure, if you do find out, let me know as it'd be handy for future!

I'm lucky at the moment in that my Doc can set it up easily, and I go and see him a couple of times a week so it's an easy topic to raise (probably helps he is as intrigued by the results as I am, being a powerlifter as well). I remember for the first test he wrote the reason as "tiredness" but I don't think he wrote anything for the second lot of tests (in fact, had to write my name and stuff myself, haha).

What Harry says probably has merit, would be a good place to start! Some of the (NZ-based) "enhanced" users around may also be able to help...

That it was! Although the smell of meat in the morning made me feel a bit queasy, haha.

  • Pretty nervous when we got in this morning, but found there were only 3 105 lifters (including myself and M.T) so small enough class to relax and enjoy it without worrying about others.
The gym next door wasn't terribly powerlifter friendly, just the 1 squat rack to share amongst everyone for warmups - lucky there was only 13 or so lifters but even with that it was a bit hectic to snake a lift in. Still managed to get mine in ok, and as I was the last lifter up I didn't mind waiting for everyone to get their warmups out first. 185 I'd usually wrap for in the last warmup but there wasn't time, so I just did it with sleeves/belt and it went up pretty easy. Boded well...
First attempt, 210; the walkout was very shady! I think I was a bit eager to get into it. But sunk it pretty deep I think despite an awkward walkout (only reviewed front on footage so not sure exactly how deep), 3 whites. Good start.
227.5 (500lb) was my minimum target for today. Thought about the walkout more and it helped, much smoother on this one. Most weight I've ever attempted, but it felt about as easy as the 210 and probably as deep too. 7.5kg PB and happy with that.
So I decided to go for broke and head for the "best-case" 3rd attempt for me, which was 240. Wasn't terribly confident, but got into a good headspace. Everything went well on the walkout (although it was a bit of a shock holding that much weight on my back, so a little shakey). Sunk it to what appeared pretty deep on the footage, but didn't feel great to me, but got the 3 whites. 20kg PB there, and stoked with the outcome. Took the pressure off for the rest of the lifts.
  • Bench I was really hoping for a 140, but the warmups felt bad, and by my first lift the shoulder was giving me a little grief. Hit the 130 ok, but it was really shakey in my hands, and I could barely feel the left gripping the bar which was a tad worrying. So I passed on my 2nd and 3rd attempts just to rest the shoulder for a big last go at the deads.
  • Warmups for the deads felt ok - but the weights were a massive pain in the arse. No collars, and they were an octagonal-type of design, which meant they kept rolling all over the place, and were never square on the bar. Not ideal to warmup with but no choice, so smashed out a few singles just to get the feel of the deadlift - remembering, I haven't "really" deadlifted for a good 3 months or so apart from a speed session last week, so wasn't expecting much here. Initially thought about 200 for an opener, but 180 went up so easily I decided to up it by 10.
First dead at 210 was speed work really, easy opener. 3 whites.
230 was a nightmare! I gripped the left hand probably a whole hand-spacing further in than I did the right hand, so the bar came up really unevenly. Just out of practice here, rookie mistake. But was given the 3 whites (luckily!).
For the last lift, I was just going to go for an equal PB, but thought bugger it, I have my 600 total, I might as well go for a PB here too. So asked for 252.5 for the final attempt. Wee bit of a grind, but easier than 250 was last time I did it (and got a red for hitching that time too). Shoulder behaved. Probably coulda gone 2.5-5kg more but happy to score a small PB here with very little deadlifting to lead into it.

So finished up with a 622.5kg total, which I think is 67.5kg more than the novice I did in March. Disappointment here was the Bench, but I'll work on that along with the Shoulder, as it's quickly becoming a very weak lift for me.

I had no idea either, but I was entered as a Junior lifter - thought I was just on the cusp of the Opens, but obviously not! So I won my class (although I was the only one in it :pfft:) and I think I got the biggest total on the day. I believe I was edged on Wilks for best lifter there but that's ok, there were some mini tanks going about!

Really good day today, pleased with how it went. Really good not to get redded for anything which was a relief. Good to meet a lot of the crew - Steak, Barbelle, TinyTraps, Traps, BarBrother, Tomlee, Red Machine and Viking Power (sorry if I missed anyone, I met a lot of people!). And good to catch up with Big John again (and cheers for recording for us bro!). Cheers for all the support guys, wicked environment, made M.T and I feel right at home

Now time to have a nap, then get some food and sink some beers. Footage will be up tomorrow or Monday...

Solid lifting bro \:D/ you and MT had a pretty good hit out, shame about the bench but still a decent effort with a bung shoulder!

Cheers bro! Nice benching yourself, and nice to meet ya :)

Awesome work Drizzt! 20kg pb on the squat  insane! You two have put in much hard work and it shows, well done! You deserve several beers!

BTW where is the all you can eat meat buffet? :-s

Thanks Vee! Very pleased it's all done!

The all you can eat buffet was at a place called Wildfire on the Viaduct. They just keep bringing around different types of meat and asking you if you want some of it. Beef, chicken, pork, lamb, sausage etc etc. You get given a traffic light (looks like a pepper shaker) that is red/green, flip it to green if you want the food to keep coming, flip it to red when you want a break.

We took a break about 30mins straight meat eating, not declining anything before we hit a wall... and then after a quick break struggled through another 30mins before throwing in the towel and having some cheesecake

Awesome place! Would recommend!

   Superhuman??

Holy shit bro, that is mental! Awesome work

Huge squat, massive dead (especially for not training it) and a solid bench.

I envy you, you monster!

Thanks bro! Stoked with the total, squat and dead in particular are all good, time to get a respectable bench too methinks

8) very good lifting today mate and good to meet you and MT 8) watching you lift today was very pleasing to witness solid form, keep it up

Gladiator :pfft: :pfft:

I mean VP

Haha thanks bro, awesome to meet ya. Stop mucking around in the low 90s and put on 10kg! :pfft:
