Ha yeah, not terribly cheap! I suppose I thought of it as how much squatting I'll be (and have been) doing and how a specific shoe would help out

Price per wear my friend! That is how I manage to get away with it! If a pair of shoes cost $200 and you wear them 200 times then that's $1 a wear. If a pair of shoes cost $20 and you wear them 2 times that's $10 a wear! 8)

Should see if you can get custom, heeled chucks?

=P~

Also found out today I'll be going to Las Vegas for my bday, maybe that had something to do with a good squatting performance

Good way of thinking about it! Maybe I could do it per kilo squatted in them? In which case it'd work out as roughly 0.28 cents per kilo... so far. Or per set squatted? That'd make them about $1.53 per set. Or price per rep? Roughly $0.31. Simple days in the gym (so far) make it $20.83, so I need to go in more to make it worth it

Yep, I've got far too much time on my hands  :shifty:

Thanks bro! Just tryna catch up to the other tanks in the U93s such as yourself

As for 1RM, I'm hoping for 200, that's my nemesis and I will defeat it :horseshit:

Realistically, I hit a 185 with just a belt earlier this year, so add the wraps in, and the gain from the past few weeks, and I fully believe 200 will fall. Anything less and I will be bitterly disappointed, but I'm not even entertaining that notion 8)

dont have a $200 pair of shoes, and a 10c squat! :lol::lol:

But this just isnt the case for drizt. Ive notice youve got some wicked speed going into the hole bro, Fast!

Haha that was actually what I was thinking when I bought them! So I do have to earn em under the bar too  Cheers bro, good sign for me is when I'm going fast it's a good day, when you see me going slow - like the 10x3s this week, it's generally not so good :) Hoping for a fast day on Sunday!

Absolutely, chucked this on the "must visit" list as soon as I found out it was in Vegas

That, and Team Xtreme Couture + MGM Grand 8)

Ha! I like this! :pfft:

Maybe you could wear them around the house that would make them cheaper still!

They look like they would make good tap dancing shoes too, if you took up tap dancing that would bring the price down astronomically!

Hmmm, might start sleeping in them, get my money's worth

07.06.11 - Smolov, Rest/Assistance

100.1kg today So yep moving right along!

But seriously, triple digits! Not disappointed, but not really happy either.

M.T is moving up at a similar pace (cracked 99 today!), and he reckons his diet isn't terrible. I'm the same; it's not been perfect, but it's definitely not been any worse than when I was maintaining weight at 93-95 for the first few months of the year. M.T and I also don't really eat the same stuff (apart from Joes garage on the weekends), but we still fluctuate in weight at the same rate. So we're putting the gain down to simply squatting lots.

Waist size hasn't gotten much bigger. Bigger, yes, but not what I would say 6-7kg of extra weight should look like. Belt buckle has maybe gained one notch. I can also still see abs if I try (hard enough :shifty:) - not at all saying I'm very lean at the moment, because I'm not :pfft: But I'm not an out-and-out chubster like I have been in the past at this weight.

The BIG change, is in the legs. Work pants have tightened hugely around the thighs, where the waist has stayed much the same. Even my "fat" jeans which were pretty baggy when I weighed in at 92 are far too tight on the legs, but the waist is fine if I can squeeze them on. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that the belt notch I've picked up is due to a growth in glute size more than waist.

Anyway, enough about the weight, lets move on to the workout.

  • Bench (sets, reps, weights)
    Warmups
    1 x 10 @ 60kg
    1 x 5 @ 80kg
    1 x 3 @ 100kg
    1 x 1 @ 120kg
    Working Sets
    1 x 1 @ 132.5kg (paused, comp commands)
    5 x 3 @ 120kg
  • Flat DB Flyes
    4 x 12 @ 25lb
  • GHRs
    4 x 10 @ bw
  • Lat Pulldowns (behind neck)
    1 x 10 @ 50kg
    3 x 12 @ 50kg
  • Rear Delt DB Raise
    3 x 10 @ 10lb

Comments

  • Bench was a lot easier without the squats before it! 132.5 with the comp commands was easy as.
  • Assistance was fine, haven't done GHRs for a while but haven't lost much, if anything on them.

Will be back in on Thurs for a light bench + a few more assistance things. Will probably stay away from legs (although still did Agile 8 today, and will do on Thurs).

 ....it was only a matter of time    i guess if the gut hasnt increased in size but the glutes and quads have then, all the more power to you bro (tom platz growth) :pfft:

the theroy goes....the More dense/bigger the quads are, the bigger the squat

I hope you're right mate! No use getting 7-8kg heavier than comp weight if the strength doesn't come with it! :x

Do you periodise so that you hit max weight (as if leading in to a comp) for a test day?

Normally, yep, but we're just testing squats so I'll continue with the scheduled upper body stuff (which is just heavy + light bench days), + some misc assistance. Basically just cutting the squats out for the week

09.06.11 - CHARMS

99.5 today - peaked at 101 post workout on Tues, so more than a kilo down in 2 days, and that coincides with not squatting... so I'm fairly certain now that is what is pushing the weight upwards.

Basically came in today to get the scheduled light bench out of the way, but did some light assistance to fill the session out a little.

  • Bench (sets, reps, weights)
    1 x 10 @ 60kg
    8 x 2 @ 85kg
  • Band Pushdowns
    3 x 15 @ purple band
  • DB Hammer Curls
    3 x 12 @ 30lb
  • DB Lateral Raises
    3 x 15 @ 15lb

Comments

  • Nothing to say really. Bench was you go-I go kinda stuff so no real rest, but it's not exactly a taxing weight. Nice little pump going on from the assistance stuff which was all slow and controlled. In and out (incl agile 8/shoulder stuff) in about an hour (which is a very short session these days!)

Will be watching the CD Novice comp on Saturday, then smashing the 1RM squats on Sunday :gunfire:

Thanks! But nah, not doing the comp, test day is the day after. Could've shifted it back a day to do it at the comp, but I only realised about a couple of weeks ago that it coincided with my test week. Then I would've had to fork out fees to sign up to the NZPF/CDPA (harder with a Vegas trip coming up!), and I'm about 6kg above my target weight class :shifty:

Also, I kinda wanna hit these squats without the pressure of a comp at the moment, whereas I know that if I've only got 1 or 2 shots at my PB it will probably just depress me if I don't hit it :pfft: On top of this, I could conceivably hit higher than I'm targeting (200), so having the ability to take multiple shots at the PB will come in handy, no doubt

On the other hand, though, a comp could be good to force the PB out of me, so hope to get one in before Bledisbro in November... just need to pick one. Going up to the Auckland Novice to support my T.P in his first comp next month, so that's a possibility. There's also the recently announced CBC Novice in Sept that could be a goer

We'll see about the Sept CBC comp, will be quite close to my Vegas trip so will probably come down to a case of "can I afford it" at that point
