Thanks guys, I wouldn't say I'm happy overall, but I'm not disappointed either. It's probably about what I expected at the moment tbh. Kinda why I want to continue on and train for a bigger total, especially now that squats seem to be coming right

I will have to remember that pebble trick if I or any of my fellow competitors need to make weight

Oh and on this SG - I was really surprised with how well it worked! Just suck on that thing like a cough lolly, builds up the saliva and you keep spitting it out. Must've spat out about a litre while I was walking around the block a couple of times.

One of the guys reckons he did the same last year and dropped two kilo on the morning of the nationals  Definitely have to remember this, and know that all hope is not lost as long as you're about a kilo out

Well done Drizzt! Massive total, defiantly smoked me by a fair bit!

Enjoyed watching you lift

Thanks bro, had no idea you were on these forums! You lifted well, you were in the juniors eh? Happy with your lifts?

you make it look too easy. :D

Glad it looked that way, but it certainly wasn't easy from my p.o.v :pfft:

Yeah I stay under the radar on this a fair bit but I'm always here. Yep Junior 93s, same as you. Yeah I was reasonably happy. Just chucked a small review up on my log (BTW I pretty much stole your log template  hope thats OK). Only got a 420 total but I'm happy for a first competition.

I wasn't junior but was 93s, I'm a few years older than ya so when you put it like that you competed really well - really good total for a sub 20 lifter!

Ha all good about the template bro, I'll go check your review out now

Cheers OH!

in the game bro, awesome stuff esp considering how the back was playin up!! that making weight sounded outstanding, tricks of the trade ay 8) u reakon ur gunna join up nw with the new rule and all so you can do some more comp this year?

Cheers RM, lucky I had the House Doc working on it or it wouldn't have happened at all today. Ended up being more of a mental hurdle than a physical one when it came time to lift  And yeah looking at throwing in the towel on Rugby this year and just concentrating on lifting, 3-4months out of every year around rugby just isn't enough time to consistently gain the sort of strength I'm after (as I'm sure you can relate to!). So signing up seems like a good plan and hopefully some bigger numbers will follow

Thanks Liam you lifted really well also, you young guys are making me feel old! :pfft: Awesome to see you guys getting stuck in so early on!

  • Had to do high-bar squats as the shoulder is troubling me a bit and couldn't take the weight of the bar sitting on it - very painful! Couldn't grip the bar with that arm either so just had the hands there to stop the bar rolling back. Doesn't quite feel muscular, almost feels like the pain is from the bone and it hurts when something is pulling down on it... kinda like the symptoms when I did the AC on my other shoulder about 6-7 years ago now. Touch wood it isn't the same thing this time!
  • Otherwise everything else today was purely priming the body for what's to come. Wasn't sore before getting there, but after the first set of squats the back started complaining (not in a bad way, in a DOMS way) so kept everything light + threw in GMs to stretch it out.

This weeks is going to be light to let the body recover, and then next week will be the start of a yet-to-be-decided program to tide me and the TP over until the Bledisbro

First thoughts are going to be adding a day or two of GPP/conditioning/flex work per week, and extending the split to 8, 9, or even 10 days instead of the usual weekly one.

Also looking at doing something like 5-6 weeks of powerbuilding, then 5-6 weeks powerlifting-specific... alternating like that, but leading into the comp with a powerlifting-specific template (such as Sheiko). See how we go.

Cheers fullas, 250 was nice but I expected more. Looking at throwing a 6-week dead cycle in to the mix in the not-too-distant future, hopefully get that pull up closer to 300 than 250 come Bledisbro time

Cheers man, yeah the old man had a blast loved getting back on the platform and met his goals  Just had the body break down a bit on the day - sounds a bit like me so I know where it comes from! I think he'll be doing Bledisbro again, he reckons the body can take two a year and he said a comp later in the year would suit.

But yeah guess I'll have to sign up at some point eh! Got some big plans for the training, really looking forward to getting underway

  • Not much to report, still keeping it pretty basic until next week. Looking like I might hop into a Westside prog of some sort, possibly mixed with a deadlift prog (Gillingham or Pavel Simmons). Then once that is up, head into something like Smolov (potentially) to up the squat numbers. All just conceptual at the moment while I map out the path to the bledisbro, but I'm looking at some big gains/improvements over my first total
