I bet you were pretty much the only one at the gym yesterday Harry. Aussie's take their right to get shitfaced on australia day very seriously don't they.

I think Calves are a bit of a tricky muscle group to smash. Personally I think the best exercise for them is heavy barbell walkouts from the squat rack. But aside from seated (or standing) calf raises and toe presses there's not a hell of a lot more exercises you can throw at them. I am currently hitting them twice a week with balls to the wall intensity and they seem to be responding well. As you say, it's the intensity you train with them rather than the frequency that matters most.

Yeah they sure do! Even driving to the gym in town there were so many wasted people walking around from the night before reeling about the place. Oh well that's for them.

Yep sure thing it's all about intensity with calves just like any other bodypart. You would do short choppy little reps on bb curls so why do people do them for calves and think that's going to do anything?

Oh and walkouts with the weight you squat would work anyones calves!!!!!

Agree, I do them once a Leg day and jsut 1 maybe 2 exercises if I am lucky and don't expect much growth from them like that. Much like i do with Traps at the moment.

But NO WAY, I wouldn't treat my biceps like this! Take them seriously for 3-6 months and they'll grow with hard work if you really want them to.

Sat too busy to train so sunday did chest and back.

Bench up to 3pps and just 3 sets of 8-12

Incline dbs 3 sets with the 50s for 8-15

Chins (med width parallel grip) 4 sets of 10

Deadlifts up to 220k for 3 then 230k for 3... not sure what was going on but just wasn't feeling it today for deads.

Straight arm pulldowns 4 sets of 12-15

I have been telling my calves that for years... mine must have a hearing deficiency lol

Checking in on the lagging calves discussion. It almost feels they are getting smaller as the upper half grows :doh:

Did legs yesterday and just was as weak as piss.

Leg extensions 3 sets of 30 reps

Squats 60k, 100k, 140k/10, 180k/8, 220k/3(loose wraps) really frustrated by this because I wanted 6 this week. I also felt like I was going to die!

Leg presses up to 2 sets of 10-12 with 8pps.

Leg extensions again for 3 sets of 12-15

SLDLs 60k, 80k, 100k/ 10 reps each.

Done.

Don't know what was up with me this workout, no push and just hurting from the start. I did get an awesome pump but was nauseos as hell. Today they are sore like a mofo. I think the humidity coupled with not enough to eat and definitely not enough water didn't help one bit.

Got crushed by my tongan TP.

How did it feel on your back?

Usually if I crap days, even 60kg on my back warming feels heavy!

Actually my body felt strong it was my legs that were weak... just so not my usual issues. Oh well.. more food, better hydration next week.

Tell us more about your TP. Wat kind of weights was he lifting? Assuming it was a he, you weren't training with Valerie Vili were you :shifty: )

My training partner is a 140k tongan, 6 foot tall. Just started his first cycle (250mg test/ 5 days). He didn't pip me by much but he did a very strong 6 with 220. I can foresee being in big trouble as the weeks go on! He's just a powerhouse.

OK so I worked out why I was so sick when I trained legs, cos I am sick. Some kind of viral thing.. oh well barely slept a couple of nights, have no appetite and had a less than stellar back workout yesterday but at least I got the training in and pushed as hard as I could.

Did 5 sets of straight arm pulldowns for 12-15 reps just trying to get some blood into my lats.

Tbar rows 1p,2p,4p/10-12 reps each

6p/7 reps

5p/12 reps

Hammer strength rows 1pps, 2pps, 3pps for 10-12 reps each

Parallel grip chins 2 sets of 10

This was such a struggle today.. I was dead afterwards.

Feel better this morning though so we'll see how I go trying to do shoulders tonight.

sounds like the bugs don't stick to you for long though mate, few days off and you're beating it.

Now you've seen SG's condition and it's only early Feb, you still dedicated to coming over for a comp. Don't let him put you off...

Lol.. ummm he's in great shape that's for sure, very motivating! Same class and everything so that's exciting for me. I am definitely motivated to come for a show. It's not like a show over here is going to be easier than coming to NZ. I just want to do a couple of shows in NZ cos it's home.

Actually shorter would put me onstage with IDW!

You'll have nothing to worry about bro. I'm small, fat, and useless... If I ever hop on stage I'll likely be laughed off because my physique will look like a piece of shit because I never stick to any routine long enough to make any decent progress.
