Hope Boris forgives me, I haven't lifted since Sunday...starting to get the irresistible urge to pick up heavy things...

Was talking to the Mighty Quinn, might come by the house tomorrow for some GPP or whatever.

And yes, I would be honored to have the Squatmeister run cards for me smiley-happy057.gif

Awesome sir! I can't get to the house till 11:30 on Saturday but the lifting doesn't start till 12- I think so should be OK timing wise. Be cautious in what you are doing tomorrow! I learnt that the hard way last comp

Thursday 09 February

Just a light day, really - paying attention to the word de-load

Squats

1x 10x 60, 1x 5x 100

3x 1x 120, 5x 1x 140 working on depth with help from the Squatmeister

Bench

2x 5x 60, then 1s and 2s at 80 for a bit.

Deadlifts

1x 10x 70, 1x 5x 120, and some doubles and triples at 150, under the watchful eye of OB. Hips still too stiff, deads more like stifflegs but I can work on that.

And now, we wait smiley-scared004.gif

Saturday 11 February

Powerhouse Novice 3-lift

My second comp - another great day at the house.

Squats - opened at 160, two whites, one red. Good on depth. Second was 180 - two whites again. Third was 190 - a bit shade high, and also I think I missed one knee lock-out. But the lifts felt comfortable, if I can fix the other issues. At least I was listening to the calls and avoiding the rookie mistakes I made last year at the BBro!That good lift at 180 was a 30kg Comp PB, and I'll take it

Bench - opened at 80 - two whites, one red, for being too low on chest. Second was 105 - but about halfway up the press the bar rolled over my thumb and dropped onto my chest for a no-lift. I'd been focussing on other things like bar position on the chest, rather than on having the bar set right on the hand, and although the thumb was over the bar (no suicide grip) the bar just bent it back and dropped out. Third was also 105, althought it wasn't too hard, I pressed up crooked for a no-lift and a best-bench of 80, well down on last time, but these are just things to work on.

Deadlift was good. Opened at 180, no issues. Second was a conservative 190, I was nursing the grip along, the right thumb wasn't really interested in helping - but the 190 went up. Third and final lift was a solid 200kg, for a five-kilo PB over the BBro.

Overall, a 460 kg total, up 15 on the BBro, which I'm very happy with, plus I qualified for the CDs (once I pay the fees).

It was a great day, my thanks to Warren, Rita and family, to Craig, Nick, and Phil, to all the spotter-loaders and scorers, for all their hard work and support, to all those in the comp with me, and to the many 'House folk who contributed to making it a brilliant event.

It was a big field (did I hear 29 total across the 3-lift and Bench ?) with some strong women as well as some very promising young folk, and some guys who showed me I'll have to pick up my game (and learn to hold onto the bar!)

Thanks again - now on to the CDs!

Yep, happy with the gains... now, if I can learn to hold onto the bar just a leeetle beet longer!

I'm gonna hold off til the Wise One proclaims I made it...... but I hear they have all sorts of luxuries, but sadly no drinks with little umbrellas in - those are for body builders, apparently!

Wtg TFB impressive lifting mate!
Cheers, big fella..it's coming, but I think I need the reaper and his mates if I'm going to break 300 Wilks
Awesome TFB!! Well Done  8)
Thanks MG - it was a great day, despite the occasional hiccup, really well run comp, fun bunch of competitors!

On the other hand, apart from some cardio yesterday, haven't been near the gym since. :naughty:

Spent large chunks of today in the parking lot which passes for State Highway 1 thru central Auckland - how do you folks do that every day

Tuesday 21 Feb

Found a gym - Genesis in downtown Cairns - and did a basic workout:

bb squats - 5s at 60 [1x 10x 60 to warm-up] 100, 120, 140, 160, 140, 120, 100

bb bench - 5s at 60, 60, 70, 70, 80

Deadlift - 5s at 100, 120, 140, 160, 140, 120, 100

Squats were where the still slightly iffy thumb got in the way, it wasn't actually too bad in the bench.

Backed it up with a random cardio class, turned out to be out-school Les Mills body attack, moves I'd long forgotten (with good reason!) but a good calorie-killer.

Wednesday 22 February

A good cardio workout, snorkelling around the Great Barrier Reef..everything got a good stretch, including shoulders, from swimming for about three hours, all-up. So nice to see the Reef.

Random post to stay on page one of the journals.... haven't lifted anything serious (apart from my wife's suitcase) in a week or so.... did some cardio, but no way enough to get me into the 105s....

Will be at the house tomorrow to atone for my absence. Squats, here I come.

Thursday 01 March

Just some squattage today, up at the 'house, getting back under the bar.

10x 100 to warm up

3x 5x 120

2x 5x 140

Singles at 160 and 170 to get the gauge of depth, build the muscle memory

Then, a pyramid at 100, contacting the rack and pausing for a count. One rep, then two, three, four and five.

And done, it's good to be back

Monday 05 March

Sheiko 5-week Comp Programme, week 4, day 1

Squat

[warm-up legs 1x 10x 60, 1x 5x 100]

1x 3x 110, 1x 2x 130, 1x 2x 140, 2x 2x 160, nice and deep...

Bench press

2x 2x 60, 2x 2x 75, 4x 3x 90

The squats were ok, using the side of the rack as a gauge to ensure I hit depth... but bench is a grind, those triples at 90 shouldn't have been that hard. Grrr...

Still, come the big day I only need to get my 1RM once...
