Women and bulking up

I wonder if anyone could enlighten me on the subject of whether it is possible for women to naturally bulk up. My assumptions on the topic are as follows: Suppose you are a healthy and well-fed nineteen year old woman. The amount of muscle you have, be it a little or a lot, will be pretty close to the maximum amount you are ever going to have. Through training it would be possible to lose fat without losing much of this muscle, thereby perhaps getting to look quite muscular. It would also be possible to gain this muscle back when you were older and your muscles had atrophied. It would also be possible to make the muscles stronger for specific activities. However, it would not be possible to make the muscles much bigger than their maximum pre-training level without drugs. Therefore, if any woman were able to "bulk up" like men can, we could say with certainty approaching death and taxes that she was a juicer.

Is this true? Is there any evidence?

I think females can "bulk up" like males can. maybe not to the same extent (no testosterone) so its impossible for them to look huge like arnie or anything like that, but they can defintely build more muscle. What is bulking? Eating over maintenance cals + heavy training. Women can do this. Anyone can do this for that matter. I'm not saying that by eating over maintenance she'll put ONLY muscle on though, a bit would be fat as well (thats a given). once she stopped bulking and worked on maintaining (or cutting) and tried to maintain the muscle mass she has, couldn't she get into another bulking phase and continue to build?

To get to the top pro level though, of course they'd need to juice up - just like the males.

I can't agree with you here. The body's response to having muscle broken down in a workout is to rebuild it bigger and better. This adapation is critical to any creature that wants to survive in a changing environment. It's certainly not unique to males. Sure, they can grow bigger than females, but ultimately we're all built the same. :)

I can't see why this would be the case. Take that healthy 19 year old, get her on a reasonable gym routine and a decent diet and she'll put on muscle. Natural female athletes do it all the time - e.g. a female cyclist will gain muscle on her legs and a female gymnast will also look very different from when she first started training.
