New Zealand team leaves for Darwin on May 12 (this saturday) and comes back on May 18 (next friday). We will be stopping in Sydney on the way......but only for 5 hours! Not sure what we're gonna do during that time.

How's training going? Or do you need a dose of Gillies to get ya goin?

The girls are leaving on May 19, they said you'd be coming to Auckland on 18th or something so we all can go out?

Been doing some MMA, BJJ and some boxing though...

Our flight leaves at 1-30 pm, checking in around 11 or so. Have a good one at Gillies, there's always someone training on saturdays.

As far as back squat, I have managed to do 205kgx1 about 3 or so weeks back. Jono has it on video too I think. So far very happy with that since it was *the* goal for 2007 in terms of back squat, I finished on 180kg in 2006.

Did time off help you with your elbow?

I think it's too soon to be talking about Olympics in the case of NZ weightlifting. At the moment there's only one guy who has done an Elite total required. Maybe 2012! I would say most of us are aiming for Commonwealth Games 2010 in India. I wouldn't mind going to World Champs in the next couple of years, but of course it is very hard to qualify right now.

The video was taken at North Shore's Millenium Institute, where I now train half of the time. Gillies is still same old Gillies. Training's going well, getting stronger too. Bodyweight maybe around 101-102kg now, so still have some room for more.

How's you training going big fella? I hope you've touched SOME weight over the last couple of months..... Don't let those girls trick you into staying home and cooking them meals every night.

At one point we temporarily had 3 females in the house... you'd think me n Max would be happy with 3 women around... ? .. Nopee.... contemplated hanging ourselves

Hardly training mate.. pretty hard to when working 12 hour days and trying to study.

Been getting in the odd grappling/mma session to try and keep some fitness.. no use though.. turned into a fat boy again LOL.

Finally finished up with studies for this semester.... back into training slowly..

I think I need to set my sights on a PL meet or similar to get myself intoa strict training regimen.

Contemplating returning to NZ as well...

Why are you thinking of returning here? It's wet, cold and it takes twice as much time to warm up. I'd rather be somewhere warm, like Samoa or Darwin.

Did Jono tell you about punching a hole in Gillies door after missing a 260kg back squat? Hahah.

Hang in there and make sure you dont screw up with any injuries !!!!

I believe Jono has conveniently forgotten to mention anything about punching a hole in the door.

I am guessing this is the backdoor that usually stays barricaded ?

Why would I return to NZ:

1. Get to save another $400 a week by living at home.

2. I have a woman-thing in Auckland

3. The only way Ill nail a 250 kg dead is by training at Gillies

4. If I decide to study towards my post grad.

5. I miss my west auckland hood... yeah right lol

All the above are not necessarily in order of importance.

Its a balmy 16deg here and sun is out.

Last week was a horrid mess though... and the wind/clouds have picked up again.

I am looking for some powerlifting gyms around here.. hate not being able to do deads of blocks/ squats on boxes etc.

Lmao..... actually I missed a 105kg snatch and ripped my shoulder up. Then I got annoyed, went to the change rooms and the door was half closed, so I tried to punch it open with my left fist and it went right in! Was by no means trying to do it, but I will admit to being frustrated as hell. Went to a cortisone specialist and the guy wants me to get an MRI cause he thinks I may need keyhole surgery. Not flipping good! So I got that to do and the door to fix. Bugger...

Did I miss something? Have you got a stuffed shoulder or back? I assume this isn't related to the door incident?

Left shoulder. I'd been getting some sharp pain in it, but it properly went off when I missed a snatch the other day. In frustration I took a swipe at the door. Door didn't do anything to me. So now it looks like I may have some bad ligament damage requiring surgery. It could still be an anterior delt/bicep tendon which would only require cortisone. But have to get an MRI first to see for sure.

Last year I tore my right rotator cuff, which only recently has been sorted out. The left shoulder going now is just a total pain in the butt.

Yeah, I've seen the results today. ~900 Gillies to ~300 PWRHouse (only 4 lifters were at the comp?). There's always next year! ;)

Goals for Nationals are 140/170, which are my 2007 goals.
