Strength increases in the first few years?

Just curious as to what everyones personal strength improvements in the first 2-4 years of serious training were like? Not after any theories (Shock horror  ) Just cold hard numbers if you don't mind. Starting lifts including bodyweight and then lifts and bodyweight after a few years training would be great if possible, thanks all :)

It's a long time ago but...

When I first started lifting I weighed 62kg and couldn't lift much. I did my first powerlifting comp after about 6 weeks and weighed 65kg. My lifts were:

- Squat 200 kg

- Bench 100 kg

- Deadlift 200 kg.

Later that year I weighed close to 70 kg but came in at 67.5 kg for a comp and did:

- Squat 220 kg

- Bench 105 kg

- Deadlift 230 kg.

12 months later I weighed 75 kg and my lifts were:

- Squat 250 kg

- Bench 135 kg

- Deadlift 250 kg.

Strength gains are usually associated with bodyweight. It will vary from person to person.

 So after 6 weeks of lifting, you could total 500kg at 65kg :-s Surely you already had some background in other arenas of strength, not totally untrained right?

Thanks for the replies guys, keep `em coming

deadlift = 20kg

squat = 20kg bar only

Your 1RM in squat and deadlift was 20kg? :-s

Cross-over strength from rowing allowed me to outlift BornDeadlifter. Pulled ~140 with no gym training as a youngun. The movement is pretty rowing specific though and I can't see how strength from playing league and 6 weeks gym work allowed you to squat and deadlift 200kg at 65kg?

If you check out my Bodyspace, Ive recored most of my 1RM lifts as I have progressed. It may give you an Idea of how I have done.

Its in graph form so gives a good indication in strength over time.

Not sure how the measurements stack up, but the lifts should be about right.

Ive trained 2years, 57-80kg

I had played a lot of sport (league mainly plus I was a bit of a sprinter) but I hadn't lifted weights. I think the progression rather than the starting point is of more relevance.

I have better things to do than make things up bro. :)

Wasn't suggesting you were making it up, just thought you might have meant 6 weeks PL specific training and that you had done some other gym work previously. If you say you did it though I'm not calling you a liar.

The movement is pretty rowing specific though

What do u bent over row?

the row part of the exercise is specific to ur rowing and bending over part is specific to u coz ur a homo so 300kg?

How old are you Thomas? When you row a boat the first part of the movement is just like a horizontal deadlift so there is a decent amount of carry-over strength to the actual deadlift.

Most ordinary people can't deadlift and squat 200kg after 6 weeks training. I wasn't taking a stab, I'm impressed. I couldn't do that, especially weighing 65kg. No need to take things to heart.

18 years old 65kg bench 40 kg for 8ish

squat 60 kg for 8ish

deadlift 100kg for 3 or 4

year later 80 to 85 kg bench 80 for reps

squat 100 for 8

deadlift 140 for 6ish

* not exact but pretty close estimates to what i was doing back then

10 years later 97kg bench 180 single

squat 220 for 3or4

deadlift 240 for 3

Definitely, that's exactly what I'm after. Good to know you didn't go from nothing to those numbers though, that'd make them (even more) insane. Thanks for contributing :)

League players are freak athletes. There was a kid in my year in 4th form who owned the junior and senior records in athletics, 100, 200 shot put discuss high and long jump everything. He was like 6'2 95kg and lean as f*ck names Alvin Matavao before he was 15 he was scouted by the roosters. Harmony Hunt a kiwi boy was another freak athlete playing for the warriors u20 last time I heard.

I first did 3 months leg work to help with my running, i went from 60kg Squat to sets of 100kg. (i weighed 83kg at the time i was running)

After my last running event I didnt go to the gym for 18months.

Started back just on a year ago now (i was 80kg), it took me 2 months to get back to 100kg squat and 10 months after that im doing sets of 140kg (I weigh 93kg).

Hats off to the 65kg guy doing 200kg squats! that is very impressive! I half squated 180 2x and that amount of weight felt crazy!
