Stretching after lifting

So far I haven't seen a single person warm down after a weights session (my limited experience gives a small sample size I admit), but in every other sport a warm down is drummed into you as a MUST DO!

Just curious if you do a warm down after lifting, and what does it consist of? Stretching, or something else?

When I was starting out, workouts were short, DOMS was an everyday occurrence and so PT kicked my ass if I didn't stretch out afterwards.

Now, tho, the workouts are longer, time is tight, so if I feel good the stretching goes... except for back.

I was given some great stretches to help esp lower back after a big deadlift day, and they get done every single time - and that really works.

I do these stretches

http://theswole.com/swole/training/key- ... stretches/

blow a fresh balloon to its maximum size and deflate it. Stretch it out and blow it up again, and you will understand why Dante prescribes stretching. Muscle is surrounded by fascia which constricts the muscle fibre within. Extreme stretching loosens the squeeze from fascia, allowing the muscle inside to fill out. On top of that, stretching hastens recovery, which as you read is key in the muscle building process.

Perform each stretch for 60 seconds directly following the set. Exceptions include biceps, which should be stretched after forearms, and calves, for which the exercise itself provides sufficient stretching. You can find pictures of the stretches here.
