My Journey - Completed!

Hi everyone,

as per my 'Never in a Million Years' post, I used to weigh 147.5kgs, and had always been chubby-chup since I hit puberty . The year I decided to make that change was 2006, and it took me 8 months to slim down to 96kgs, and then it was just weight training for the next 2.5 years....just your average gym-goer. I was proud of my achievement, but I knew that my story would be much more amazing, if I were to take that last final step....a body building competition, even if I do it just once, then I can say – Yep, I’ve done it!

It was a very nice thought...and maybe one day I will probably do it….and that's all it was, and remained...one day...and I just pondered on that, more like procrastinated....until about 3.5 months ago...when I met the Fab Jo Stewart.

Just 13 weeks of being under her direction, advice and tremendous support ...I achieved that goal, and did my first bodybuilding comp (North Harbour Champs 09/10/10)....but not just once, but twice (Country of Origins; Australia) - PLUS a photoshoot.....all in the same month!

Jo has been a fantastic coach, and truly an expert and professional in the sport. She certainly believed in me, even in times where I was ready to throw it all in. She said she’d get me stage ready in 11 weeks, and she certainly did…and then some!

Well as they say…a picture expresses a thousand words – enjoy!

Regards

Paul

proof of what can be done when you set your mind to it. Well done!

Awesome bro! Really inspiring stuff!

Sweet pec tat too, who did it? (if you don't mind my asking)

Thanks Drizzt. I had it done in Samoa when I went back for a break in March. A parlour called - Urban Tattoos. Took 7 hours, including 4 or 5 smoko breaks for the tattooist, hehehe.

There is a place in New Lynn (Auck) however that also specialise in maori/pacific island patterns/designs, but I preferred to get mine done on home soil so I waited til I went back. Let me know if you keen and I'll fire through their details.

I've seen the traditional way being done, doesn't look fun at all!

You're right about the lines and it probably wouldn't age as well.

But mad props on turning your life around dude!

Thanks Peter. Just read your intro blog, welcome to the forums - you're building up very nicely! :salute:

Hey Paul, I have to say you have done it all yourself. I love to see people competing. I love to see people being honest with themselves, testing their mental and physical strength and pushing themselves to strive for their best. I saw that in you at the gym - daily, and guess what - you proved on a weekly basis that you were putting the work in.. One week your were thinking of competing, next week you were getting ripped.

You were open to criticism and always keen to learn and improve. I loved it when I told you protein biscuits at that stage of your competition phase were crap and you walked out the door and turfed it, You know what - most people would of finished it and say they would start tomorrow. It was a pleasure helping you but guess what - it was easy cos you were so self motivated and determined to do and be the best you could be over the period of time that we had. Good luck with your future cos this is just the start of your journey. 20 years of Bodybuilding has given me lifetime skills that I will value forever and hope to pass on to others.

To all others wanting to do the same, it is a matter of mental aptitude. build that and the body will follow.

Ah awesome, don't blame ya on not getting traditional done. My Ta Moko session on my arm/shoulder/back (at just over 8 hours incl a couple smokos too! :pfft:) was bad enough, can't imagine how hard traditional would be :x

Yeah a pec tat is something I've always been interested in, if you don't mind firing through their details that would be great. I'll see if I can check out some of their work  Cheers!

Respect,

Thanks R....appreciate your comments :)

At this stage, it's a bit like that informercial on tv where the guy says, "Ive given all my fat clothes to all my fat friends' hmmm, wonder if he still had any after that comment, ..so yes, I certainly hope not to ever go there again :snooty:

Thanks Jo...love your modesty. I wouldn't have had a clue where to start, and whether or not I was on the right path. You've shared and passed onto me some of those very valuable lifetime skills through the process, and it has been an absolute honour and blessing to have had the chance to work with an icon in the sport.

Take a bow.....because of you, I am now a believer :notworthy:

ps - the cookie incident will stay with me for many, many, many years ahead :pfft:
