170kg drop it down to 140 or sumthing. bend over more... its called a bent over row not upright. form wasnt really that shit hot if u want my honest opinion. but hey yr the one doing it and u are the one feeling it, so how does it feel?

on the other hand if u are starting at like 100 then going up to 130-140 then as ur final set doing the 170 and cheating like that then cool as thats one way to get gains, its one to hurt yrself too. so take it easy.

Was stopped on the street today to be told I would be perfect for crossfit. I was also told I should be strength training, doing cleans and overhead snatches, all this said by a skinny English man twice my age. Also told I'll never be big enough for a bodybuilder and should try and get fitter

This should be enough to drive me through back tomorrow

Also got a new (previously trained with on again/off again) training partner, hopefully he sticks around for more then 2 months this time

My point from before bro, didn't it make you think WTF when that skinny old guy told you that?

Yeah but I know for a fact that he doesn't have any experience with top class athletes or have a PhD or any credible credentials. He told me I should over head squat for f*ck sake

Wasn't having a shot at you, people that do those tests do them because you and me have know fucking idea how to and they interpret the data based on the information given to them. Granted, some of them come up with dumb shit conclusions but because of them we know things like the squat recruits as much quad as the front squat, then people like Tom Platz gave that information some substance

To give HP's theory, look at guys like Layne Norton, Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates, the former two train each body part twice a week, the first competing INBF, and the latter 1 every 6 days, some of the biggest dudes to step on to their respective stages

All good, I get what you mean. My lecturer said its "dangerous to touch the chest with bar when benching" because it puts the shoulders in an uncomfortable biomechanical position.

Yeah science does have its place, EMG etc but I don't like it when someone who does not lift weights seriously says things like training with full range of motion is detrimental to the body..

Ronnie and Dorian are machines, Layne Norton is alright I guess

Your lecturer is right if you are performing a guillotine press but he is making a broad statement.

I get what you're saying, I think you can listen to a "bean pole" when they have a vested interest in the sport, some people just don't have the time to put all their energies into developing a great physique/gaining mammoth strength etc

Usain Bolt has a coach too

Nah not a guillotine press, just normal bench press. Yeah I understand, he does have diff priorities. Of course Usain Bolt has a coach- he's an olympic athlete, he'd have a sport scientist on hand to take him through different testing procedures, biomechanics and all that.

I never said top athletes didn't have coaches, just said I would be surprised if IFBB Pro's and top PLers had sport scientists etc. I know for a fact IFBB Pro's have a chiropractor, trainer, nutritionist, doctor and massage therapist.

P.S Good to see you doing T bars!!

Sport scientists are coming out with information all the time that filters down into what you study and top what the pro's learn

How do we know that squats are the best exercise for legs? Sports scientists did EMG tests that tell us so. Does it work as well for everybody? No everyone is different but for the most part it is true
