Sorry to hear about the injury, hopefully it's nothing major but get it checked out ASAP - you don't want to end up like me.

I would go and see a physio rather than a GP. The GP will probably give you a Voltaren shot and send you home, the physio should give you a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for all the support guys! I wasnt going to go to the doc but i thought if it was a disc issue or something like that, that it wouldnt really get better by itself, plus i dont want to miss any training so getting physio on it so it recovers faster is very appealing.

Anyway, i went to the doc, he gave me a quick checkup, he didnt think it was anything too major, i believe he said, maybe a bad sprain, anyway i got ACC and ive got physio so ill go see them tommorow and see what they have to say. Also got some anti-imflamatories, voltaryn (sp?).

I remember reading bad things about anti-imflamatories, i cant remember what it was, are they slightly catabolic or something? I dont want to take them if the are lol.

Sometimes the inflammation can actually worsen the damage, so if need be, I'd accept a small amount of catabolism to prevent a long-term problem. (Although I don't know whether anti-inflammatories are catabolic anyway)

Yeah i think this was definiately the case. I took a tab of voltaren and in about 2 hours 90% of the pain was gone, it hasnt returned either, i was dreading waking up today and feeling the pain but it wasnt too bad. I will get off the voltaren ASAP i dont like using stuff like that unless i HAVE too.

The whole situation was WEIRD. At the time it felt SO bad i thought i must have slipped a disc or something, i never go to the doc, usually i never even seek advise for injuries so i figured this one must be pretty bad.

Sitting here now i hardly feel anything

Like you say, i guess the inflammation was worse than the actual damage :D

Well i went into todays workout not expecting too much after yesterdays back/hamstring injury. I popped a voltaren this morning and a couple of hours later i basically had zero pain. I thought i better take it easy, but i realised i didnt have to, there was no discomfort at all so i just went about my usual routine, dropped the heavy lateral though, because of time.

Really wanted to crank out the set of Arnold presses today, even with 2 extra heavy sets i managed to equal last weeks pb. Military press continues to piss me off, it just wont go up, i dont know if its because of all the Arnold presses beforehand or what. I slugged it out anyway, 4 solid sets. Finished of with shrugs supersetted with lateral raises, i was going to take it easy on shrugs because of the back but there was no need, so i got a PB on that. I hoping to get the lateral raise supersets up to what the heavy lateral PB was.

lol back to the heavy weights right away.. reckless as ever

He didn't go to the GP!

He just had his mechanic dig around his back with a longnose pliers and remove the worn out joints. Chuck in a new part from Repco and he's back at gym shrugging 500+ lbs.

Only explanation I can think of..... :pfft:

Seriously though, it was pretty reckless, i just cant help it, i have to go to the gym and i have to train hard. If the voltaren hadnt have wiped the pain i would not have gone to the gym though...maybe not lifted heavy...who am i kidding, i would have gone anyway :?

haha good call.

growth that's pretty sweet that your back didn't break in half, though i'm not about to count my chickens before they have hatched

I seriously belived it was a BAD injury, i have herd many a horror story about deadlifts and SLDLs, i thought i had either popped a disc or ripped a hammie. Im very thankful i can still train.

I've experienced something similar tonight with my SLDL's. For SLDL's at this point in time, I stick with a 6-8 rep range. I can control the tension, wheather it's ascending or descending, through breathing. But anyway...

It was my 3rd working set on 97.5 kgs (I've done 95x8 confidently in week 9, this is my 10th week), about to finish my 6th rep when I f_cked up my breathing on the descending part of the lift. Basically I breathed out while lowering the weight, (I could feel the back fatigue at the time, but nothing that concerned me too much at that point) and just as I was about to erect my back I felt very sharp pain above the glutes, painful but not as painful as previous back injuries. It's amazing when you get your back f_cked, how much tension shifts to your abdominal muscles.

Anywho, as a result I'll be taking a week off next week. I need one anyway, after 10 weeks of straight training.

Just keep in mind that breathing can make all the difference between an injuried back and a healthy back.

Take it easy on that back Growth and happy Icing!

You know what, now that i think about it the set beforehand my abs were getting quite sore, i had a weird abdominal felling....

I think i also stuffed up my breathing/rhythm, i was pressed for time, i hadnt even recovered properly from the previous set, next time i attempt i am going to really concentrate a lot harder, little mental slip ups can lead to bad things.
