Confessions of a foodaholic.

People,

I am here because I am fat.

I have tried losing weight and have succeeded then I’ve gained it all back. Today I am fatter than I have ever been, I need some serious help. I have no motivation left to lose weight what so ever. Everyday I say I will start my diet the next day, but the next day never comes. What comes instead is binge eating after having convinced myself it’s OKAY because I will be starting my diet tomorrow (nothing out of the ordinary for me).

Yesterday, for example, I was suppose to start my diet, but instead I said “I’ll eat today, then I’ll diet tomorrow because I really feel like McDonalds”. So last night I went to McDonalds and ordered 2 Filet o Fish burgers & 2 Cheese burgers, one of the burgers with fries and a coke and 6 nuggets (instead of the nuggets they mistakenly gave me a chicken burger). Earlier that night I had big bowl of pasta that was coated with cheese (yumm!) & some chocolates. With my sweet cup of tea I had 2 toasts with butter.

So! I thought I’d come here for some support and maybe reading other people’s triumphs will encourage me as well… because I really need it right now. I’m out of control. Zilch amount of self control!

Stats:

I am a couple of KGs away from being considered obese!

I know a lot about dieting (because I have been over it so many times... but possibly not enough?), the only issue I have is applying what I know. I hope this forum can help keep me honest until I am able to do it on my own.

My goal: get toned, and gain muscle in my glutes (big ones if possible), thighs (a decent size), and a hint of abs.. it's funny, I've never had a flat stomache in my life! I was born fat lol.

Hmmm, that's about it for me, any advice? :)

(Ps: I will start my diet tomorrow... promise!)

I am going to be really honest here. If you want to make a change all it comes down to is you. Nobody else can stop eating crap for you. You have to make the decision for yourself. The more you put off making a change the harder it is going to get for you. Overweight people have more health problems then fit people. So if you want to stay around longer for those you care about, you have to do something NOW. Not tomorrow, not the next day, RIGHT NOW. You don't have to make a huge change right away, slowly make changes (but not too slowly!). Every time you make a healthy decision you have won a small battle towards your goal! And you can feel proud of yourself. I wish you good luck. Other people on here should have some good advice for you too

Good post DRWK, I totally agree.

I'll emphasize the slow changes could be your key as well. If you've dieted many times before, and always end up gaining the weight again then it's definitely a lifestyle problem. Don't think of it as a diet to reach a goal. Think of it as a lifestyle change to slowly reach a goal and stay there/continue bettering yourself in every way. First step could be to stop eating take outs and prepare all your meals yourself. If you find that too difficult, perhaps have one take out burger or something in 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, then 4 weeks etc and eventually you'll cut it out completely. Make slow, stable steps towards a new healthy lifestyle, not giant unstable leaps that'll result in you falling back into your old bad habits. Hope you get that metaphor.

I'm also a few kgs away from being considered obese by BMI standards, many others here will be well past that point and still very strong and healthy. Don't rely on BMI to tell you what you are, trust the mirror and if you want to bodyfat percentage tests done consistently by the same person using the same method.

Good luck on your journey and I hope you reach your goals, if you keep up with this journal it'll help you track your progress as well and keep you accountable to people other than yourself.

Welcome :)

if this were easy, everyone could do it. But (especially with so much "engineered food" around), of course it's not easy. Companies add extra fat, or sugar, or salt, to their food, and the brain gets hooked... people now talk about "self-medicating with food".

There IS a lot of good advice on here - much of it will run counter to what you've already learned. But that's ok, because you've already admitted that advice didn't work.

Oh, and everyone before me is right: BFL is a great programme, it has proven results; you have to do this for yourself, hold yourself accountable; and don't necessarily subscribe to labels like 'obese'. Perhaps the easiest test is the Arnold test - Jump! If it jiggles, it's fat!

If it helps, admit to yourself you're a bodybuilder. You need to learn how to eat like one, train like one, live like one. Bodybuilders don't have diets, they have eating plans - and that word is important, because plans support goals. Goals you've already got, so what you need is the plan.

So, give us a few more clues: age, exercise history, height and weight (and remember the innuhnet is anonymous, so be accurate, otherwise some of the advice won't be effective). What's your current daily food intake?

Hey guys,

Thanks so much to all of you guys who have responded, just reading some of your advice has given me a little bit of hope and a little bit of motivation =) I don't think I've read or heard such great advice anywhere, and what makes it more profound is that it's coming from people who actually practice what they preach... Throughout my battle I won't forget these particular parts....

Donrunwithknives: "Every time you make a healthy decision you have won a small battle towards your goal! And you can feel proud of yourself."

Phedder: "Don't think of it as a diet to reach a goal. Think of it as a lifestyle change to slowly reach a goal and stay there/continue bettering yourself in every way. "

Teamfatboy: "If it helps, admit to yourself you're a bodybuilder. You need to learn how to eat like one, train like one, live like one. Bodybuilders don't have diets, they have eating plans - and that word is important, because plans support goals. Goals you've already got, so what you need is the plan. "

And of course.. "Stop procrastinating" (Agentorange)... tihii

To answer Teamfatboy's questions,

I am in my 20s.... and I use to run a bit and do weights, but my fitness level is really low since I havent exerised for months. I am around 172 cms tall and about 92 kgs (last time I checked).

My food intake: I dont eat breakfast, I dont eat lunch. I eat dinner around 6 and den I probably have something else just before I sleep (eeep!)

By the way my arms have gone really huge, I think that may be because I use to do weights and possibly the muscle is now covered with fat so it makes my arms look HUGE... when I use to gain weight in the past my arms would be the last place to gain weight but now it looks absolutely huge

I'd really love to have a flat stomach with a bit of abs , and a nice big butt that has a ton of muscle under it and nice toned thighs and arms =P~

I have a GOLD gym membership to Fitness First... but havent been in ages, & I've kept it because I really love doing weights and also because I got gold membership for the price of standard 8)

Okay thanks again guys... you're so helpful! love you all much much!

Btw my diet actually started today ( ) and I am feeling really motivated, going to exercise today as well :D

Love,

xo

If i can be completely blunt, you will probably find because your quite fat atm that you will make some really good losses in fat quite quickly as your body will get a heck of a shock if you start training and eating right.

Things will eventually plateau and which point you simply re-evaluate what you are doing and your off again.

Good luck. Post up your diet, i would be interested to see it :)

so how'd it go... I dont know. Is eating thai noodles okay? I guess it had some veggies... and what about mayo? hmmmm I think not. Coffe with sugar? eep!

I dont know how I'm doing... all I know is I'm eating much less, maybe not the right stuff when I do eat. Not enough protein. I need a scale.

I don't eat breakfast, but I should start to avoid cravings. And water should become my bestfriend.

I need a schedule.

I hate this... it's gona be a tough battle, especially considering all the stress I'm going through. *sigh*

My stress: I am not a confident person. Someone I know offered me her home for rent and I said I will take it (no real estate agents involved). She left the next day to go on a holiday, before she did go away I asked her to forget the bond, she said no its the law you have to pay, she also said she'd email me a statement about the rent etc. She hasnt done that, and according to the law I am not allowed to move in until certain documents are signed by both of us.....the only reason I wont move in now because I am currently living at my parents home and want to delay moving for various reasons. When the owner of the property is back from her holiday (25 days ) i want to confront her about her obligation and why I wont pay for the rent while she was away (and while I wasnt using the property)... but I feel I wont be able to say this to her because I am not confident and i dont wana lose the property, but i dont wana pay for 3 weeks wen i havent even used it and when shes using the 'law' as an excuse to get my to pay bond (its not stated in the law that i HAVE to pay bond) but I will pay anyway because I get that back at the end if I keep the property as it was when i first moved in. But i dont want to pay rent, especially sinceI havent moved in. Anyways im always not confident, this colleague at work shes so confident i love that.. wish i was like her... but im a door mat... any advice about the rental and this confidence issue? When the owner comes back shall I show her the documents and also tell her I cant move until you sign these , and if she trys to backdate the date when rent should start (she may date it back to last week) I will tell her she cant do that because the law says you cant charge me until these forms are filled and are handed to me. (??!!?!) does that sound convincing.... argh its true! she has to be convinced :/ what if she gets pissed and changes her mind lol

moving on to more relevant stuff.....I was getting cravings for mcdonalds .. I was so close to go and eat some... but I think I'm over powering the cravings. I know that eating it will only make me feel good for a moment.....eating it wont make me happy, it will just add to my suffering. IT WILL ADD TO MY PAINFUL SUFFERING.

Now im just rambling like a lunatic who's yearning for a straight jacket, hoping that it will save me from the monster within

People,

I am here because I am fat.

Ok First thing first get positive!

You are not here because you are fat you are here because YOU ARE GOING TO IMPROVE YOUR BODY IMAGE

Use this logic for everything and you will see within yourself how much of a difference putting a positive spin on things will do for you and your adherence to your new lifestyle
