Was a great show to watch...and you are so right, Yoram achieved what no-one one else in the whole show had done. Came in looking like he was a body wrapped in gladwrap

Your proportions this year were way better than ever before, it's not easy changing your shape that much mate. You deserve a big blow-out and a month or two of eating whatever and whenever you like! Yourself, Steve Orton, and Darren were the biggest highlights of the show for me  seeing big bodybuilders is always inspiring.

Was also a special year to be sharing the Nationals stage with your brother, congrats!

I didn't see who Genetic Freak was...someone PM me a pic (and not of a glamour girl LOL)

Hey Soundsgood, firstly congrats on your efforts on saturday, certainly coming in a lot leaner and better condition I think than when I saw you in Christchurch back in May except this time I was sitting up front from a Judges perspective. Im sure I have said to you before you have it all there to take out a NZ overall title. You were up against a guy who was simply rock hard.

Just keep what doing what your doing and keep coming in harder and harder each time, maybe staying a little leaner off season although I guess you've done a few shows this year and had little time to relax anyway.

Your class was a tough one and I know I was doing a little umming and arring before making my decisions but well done. There are plenty of envious bodybuilders around including myself who would love to have those wheels of yours.

Quick progress pic @ 115kg

I peaked at 120kg over the offseason. Got sick with a virus and dropped right down to 108kg. Bounced back up to current weight

It's decision time at the moment. I have my club powerlifting comp this weekend then I can either start cutting for the end of year shows or push for an Internationally competitive powerlifting total.

Thanks for your input guys

Still reassessing what I want to do

Had the Flex Powerlifting competition last night

Weighed in at 116.4kg

Opened by squats at 265 which popped up ridiculously easy

Thought about 290ish with my next attempt but said bugger it and got 307.5kg loaded up. Walked it out. Setup and I could feel the weight starting to pull me backwards. Straightened up, sunk into the squat and popped it back up without a grind. Stoked. Comp PB. Blood pressure was pretty high so I decided I was happy with that effort and passed on my third attempt.

Opened my bench on 192.5kg. No problem at all.

Second attempt at 207.5kg also flew up without an issue. This was equal with my training PB and was a 12.5kg comp PB. Thought about going with a conservative 212.5-215kg 3rd attempt but with the crowd support I went with an even 220kg.

Dropped it too my chest, paused then exploded up. Got 3/4 up then my back started cramping up. Pushed thru and I could feel my right pec straining. Called a NO and the spotters racked it. Oh well, still happy to improve my comp PB although I knew I was good for more.

Deadlifts were next. Pec and back were really starting to be a pain in the warmups so opened on an easy 247.5kg.

Second attempt I jumped up to 272.5kg which should have been relatively straight forward. Pulled up to my knees then my right pec started searing with pain, ignored it and pulled up my thigh, pec pain was getting pretty bad and I knew I had another attempt so I gave up and put the bar back down.

Third attempt pretty much the same. Pretty gutted I didn't have the mental toughness to keep pulling, I know I'm more than capable physically of pulling a solid 300 dead but mentally Deadlifts beat me sometimes. I should have just fought on through and landed it.

Finished with a 307.5 / 207.5 / 247.5

Even with a pretty average deadlift I totalled 762.5kg which was a 12.5kg PB and PB'd my squat and bench. Was easy overall winner of the comp so I can't be too hard on myself.

Feel like I was attacked by a gang with baseball bats today though, body is sore all over lol. Going to take the next couple of days off the gym and get some massages :)

fark awesome numbers SG! you must be the Johnny Jackson of New Zealand.... NZ's Strongest bodybuilder

have had pec strain during deadlift before on lower pec area.

Dunno for sure but when you're using every possible muscle to pull it up off the floor and you're over the bar a bit...it's being used I reckon. Hurts like hell you were probably wise to stop
