If I were you, I wouldn't go too heavy having just come out the diet. Yeah, you haven't squatted heavy in months, but the reason your body can't lift nearly as much is because it still isn't really back up to scratch because of the diet. It would just be safe not to try and tear your glute again.

And for leg press, go 50-100 reps after squats. Shit burns hahaha.

Good training, and looked good at your comp. Looking forward to seeing you come in with better condition at nationals.

Thanks Dad :pfft: I'm sick of high rep workouts man. That's what ive been doing what I feel like at the mo without pushing it too hard.

Do something 'til you get sick of it. Then do it some more.

Had a really average Back train on Friday. Did high rep Deadlift warm up sets and the pump in my back was so intense I couldn't do my working sets without great pain. Had to be creative and worked my back with exercises that didn't hurt as much like seated cable row and Chinups.

Didn't train Saturday. I was hitting the town Sat night but none of my clothes fit me anymore so had to go shopping for new ones.

Snapped off a pic in the changing rooms to show how much conditioning I had lost and how much mass I had put on lol.

It was the first time I had been out in Hamilton in about 2 years and I instantly remembered why I don't go out there. Its full of bad drunks lol. Still had a good night though!

Hungover as on Sunday so no training.

Saw docs post on the 140kg bench for 10 reps x 10 sets and decided to give that a go last night.

Went in and weighed in at 113.8kg. Thats 251lb in the old money. It did not take me long to get back up there (7 days lol).

The first 6 sets were a piece of piss. Started to tire a bit on the next 2. On the 9th set I got to the last rep and couldn't lock it out, spotter touched the bar. Game over.

Its such a great challenge and Im determined to get it!

So I weighed in at 101kg last sunday on stage. Thats 13kg gain over 7 days. I used to think that the post comp rebound was all water and fat. Its simply not possible to put on serious amounts of 'muscle' in only a week.

Then I thought about it what muscle is made of. Its 70% water and it stores carbs as Glycogen in your muscles. Therefore if you take a weight reading when you are depleted and dehydrated then another after you flood the body with carbs and water surely the difference can't only be water and food. Your muscles absorb some of the water and carbs and fill out. Surely that means some of the weight gain is actually muscle weight? I'm not saying I haven't put on fat and am storing alot of excess water and food. I just think I must have put on muscle in the week after the comp, if only around 3-4kg. My body was crying out for the excess food for ages. Now it has it. Any theories guys?

Lol i see whet you're saying there bro. But I've set aside 12 weeks leading into the nationals to diet hard. I think whatever condition I will be in that should be ample time to get shredded

Trained biceps and triceps on Tuesday. Crazy pump in my biceps meant I was struggling to get depth on my Closegrip benches because bis were crushing into my forearms. Would be interested to get a measurement but wouldn't be surprised if they are 20" pumped at the mo.

Trained chest tonight with big Daniel. Current Waikato Bench press champ.

Warmed up with sets on the bench with 60kg, 100kg and 140kg

Loaded up 183kg and popped up an easy single

Loaded up 201.5kg and attempted a new PB. Untracked and slowly lowered to chest. Touch then exploded it back up. Got about an inch off lockout and it was slowing down. Ground it out and boom it was up! Yay new PB \:D/

Dropped the weight back to 183kg and did a couple of sets of 4

Dropped back to 140kg and did 3 sets of 15/13/12

Bench done and dusted. Dan failed at 200kg bench so I took the honours tonight. I'm sure he'll own me on the deads next time but I'll hopefully be able to get my squat back up in time to be competitive, although he told me his goal is 360kg by next year  I was just hoping to go 320kg by the end of this year. Might have to start squatting in a suit.

Did 5 sets of machine incline press. 16-20 reps of full stack followed by Incline DB flies 4 sets of 10 w 70lb DBs.

Did a couple of sets of BW chest dips with legs parallel to the floor as poss. Managed about 20-25 reps.

Finished with a single set of 16 x 100lb incline DB press.

Saw the main NZA guys training at flex tonight. They are all good but I hope we don't get a lot of the tag alongs turning up. I don't really care as long as they don't hog my mirrors lol.

Good to get the 200kg bench monkey off my back today, I'm stoked :D

Thanks Android and Gymrat, it's so fun just mucking around in the gym at the mo!

Good benching bro

Cheers big guy. You motivate me to go hard! thanks for the heads up on the technical side of things too in regards to the setup. We'll have to do some paused benching at some stage, and I'll see if I can fit into your old bench shirt :shifty:

Tonight I only had a little bit of time to train so I did some squats.

Legs feeling good so I thought I'd push it a bit further than last week.

Warmed up with sets at 20kg, 60kg, 100kg, 140kg and 180kg

Loaded up 235kg, put on belt and unracked bar. 3 paces back then repped out a single. Not a grind but still didn't feel up to another rep so racked it.

It's been so long since ive squatted heavy a few little things hit me that I never used to notice. The bar actually felt really heavy on my traps and my biceps felt pretty pumped just from balancing the bar. Going to have to really work on getting my squats back up, might even try squatting twice a week.

Dropped the weight back down to 180kg and did a nice controlled set of 10.

Only a little bit of time left so ran over and did 4 sets of 16-20 reps on leg extension at full stack.

Not much volume but better than nothing. Legs swelled up a couple of inches over course of workout and were quite vascular.

My 2 week grace period post comp will be up on Sunday. Going to have a good think about what I want over the weekend and decide my next plan of attack.

Still no plans set in stone for the rest of the season, got a couple of things external to bodybuilding to consider as well so still just throwing weights around aimlessly and diet is pretty much whatever at the mo.

Solid Delts and Tricep session on Sunday night. Although the extra size I have on me has really restricted my flexibility so even flicking DBS up for shoulder press was a struggle. Need to work on more stretching!

Back and bicep session yesterday. Still working my way back up with deads. Pyramided up to a single at 225kg then back down. Lots of accessory work really pulling with my lats. They felt swollen all day today.

Trained chest tonight.

Started on bench press.

Warmup sets at 60kg, 100kg and 140kg

Then into working sets

185kg x 6

165kg x 9

142.5kg x 14

That was a PB on both 185kg and 165kg so happy with that. Really want a clean set of 10 @ 185kg. I am thinking 220kg RAW touch and go is a good target and I really don't see why it wouldn't be attainable with the progress I'm making at the moment.

It's funny, I never used to have much a bench, was my weakest lift then all of a sudden it's just shot off. It's just a time under the bar thing, and working out what works for me. My setup has also changed dramatically too. I use a closer grip than I used to and leg drive now comes into play.

Did a set of Incline DB press and used the biggest premade DBs we have at flex which were 100 lbs. Got to around 25 reps still had gas left and thought this is pointless. So I moved onto the Incline Press machine and did 4 sets of 15-18 with full stack.

Flat DB flies to finish. 3 sets of 10 with the 75lb DBs. That about as heavy as I've ever gone with good form and I got one hell of a stretch.

Weighed in just under 115kg before I left. But to be fair I had just drunk about a litre of water. So still just over 250lb. Gonna have to come up with a decent eating plan this week and get back into it!

Tonight I trained quads and calves.

Warmed up in the squat rack with sets at 20kg, 60kg, 100kg and 180kg

Loaded up 250kg. Put on Wraps and belt and popped out a double.

Reloaded the bar to 265kg and unracked it. Walked out with it but just didnt feel to confident so I reracked it and grabbed a spotter.

Had a wiff of an ammonia tab and with my spotter behind me unracked, walked out and popped out a single. Not much grind, I'm easily strong enough it's just a mental game getting my weights back up there. Didn't feel like reps tonight so I left squats there.

Loaded up 11pps on the leg press and did 5 sets of 20 reps.

Finished quads with 4 sets of 16-20 Lef extension at full stack.

3 sets of 50+ seated calf press on full stack and I was out of there.

Well done, shifting some big weights again, great squats and damn that bench is awesome!!!

Very impressive work considering you have a really long hard work season already and still in great shape.

Definitely a 220 touch and go I reckon.

Woke up this morning with the news I had been dropped as an East Coast Muscle (ECM) athlete with no explanation offered :? I guess we are moving in different directions but it would have been nice to at least talk about it.

Nevermind after chatting to my nutritionist he has proposed sponsoring me. So with a bit more to iron out and a contract sorted I will be a sponsored 'Jake Campus Nutrition' athlete which is exciting.

There is also a bit of interest from a major supplement label possibly coming on board too, but I don't want to say any more on that till it happens

One door closes, another opens as they say. No hard feelings to ECM, I appreciate all they have done for me.

Nice weights pushed mate!

Think if you're getting ready for the Nats you wont b able to do that at CBC in September tho, wanna prove me wrong...?

ECM must have been wanting a quick win mate, go for the people that stick around in times of highs and lows. Would have thought treating you with more respect would have made better business sense and be morally humane...ahh well moving on...

Exactly what I was thinking Android. Oh well.....

Cheers TWL, And Dan. Gonna keep pushing for a few more weeks trying to get that bench right up. Got a gym powerlifting comp coming up in the next few weeks so that'll be the one lift in looking for a big improvement from last year.

Trained back tonight.

Pulled 235kg Dead for a single (in b4 you almost bench more than you squat crew).

Barbell rows 140kg - 4 sets of 12

Seated rows 4 sets of 12-15 @ full stack

Widegrip pulldowns - 3 sets of 12 @ full stack

Lying cable crossovers - 3 sets of 12 with 1/3 stack

For the record I have only been umming and ahhing about whether to do another regional or just For the nats. Will make up my mind this week. And no, I def won't be doing the CBC comp in September Android!

Sweet bro. Was gonna see if you wanted to be a guest judge? Keen? And yeah those Ammonia tabs are going down a treat. Let the boys try one and they are hooked! Left wrIst is feeling a bit rooted too so wrIst wraps would prob be a good idea.

If I was going to do an IFBB show this year it would be the Waikato show Jordan. I've never done a show at home, would be nice for once \:D/

So odd with ECM bro, why they wouldn't want to stick with someone with your potential I do not know, stupid giving no explanation either. Harsh as. Do you get to keep that muscle suit? lol

You are a strong guy bro, 220 raw bench would be incredible

EDIT: whens the gym comp? I am coming up to Hamilton the last weekend of June, could be a good bit of fun (my brother-in-law works at flex)

That's what makes me want to go back to wgtn bro, just a home show. NZFBB cos that's what I used to do and I know I can do it with my friends. It's less about the competition and more about just being amongst my mates.

Aha Ryan is your Brother in law? I see the connection. I will look at the dates and see what dates work. Keen as for a train when youre up though, hit me up!

Trained chest tonight

Warmed up on bench with sets at 60kg, 100kg, 140kg

Did a triple at 180kg - first time doing 4pps with no spotter just in case, pretty confident at this weight now

Racked up 192.5kg and did a good triple, went for a 4th and had to get a spot to get it up.

Dropped back down to 142.5kg and did 5 sets of 10. Formed a bad habit of stopping on my chest for a 1 count on the last rep before locking back out. Don't know why :?

Moved onto Incline Bench and did 4 sets of 12 with 100kg

Flat DB flies next. 4 sets of 8 with the 75lb DBs

Seated Machine chest press was next up. Pumped out 3 sets of 16-18 at 3/4 stack

Finished on Cable Flies. Used 2/3 stack and did 3 sets of 12.

Weighed in at 114kg post training. I've started a structured eating plan again today. Eating approx 1.5kg chicken or steak w about 500g carbs from oats/kumara/potato/fruit.
